A simple, precise and accurate spectrophotometric method was developed for analysis of the osteoporesis drug alendronate sodium (ALS). The method is based on reaction of the drug with sodium-1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonate (NQS) in presence of alkali to form a brown colored complex giving absorption maximum at 525 nm. The drug obeyed Beer’s law in the range of 5-70 µg/ml with a correlation coefficient of 0.999. The LOD and LOQ values are 1.7 µg/ml and 5.0 µg/ml, respectively. The average recoveries for recovery study were found to be in the range of 99.37%-100.46%. The R.S.D. values for intraday and inter-day precision were found to be 0.48 and 0.62, respectively. The optimized assay conditions were applied successfully for determination of ALS in pharmaceutical dosage forms. No interference was observed from the excipients present in the dosage form. The method is statistically validated as per the ICH requirements.

There is not a single analytical methods appeared in the literature for combined estimation of Amlodipine and Chlorthalidone in tablets dosage form. Attempts were made to develop a simple, precise and accurate Simultaneous UV spectroscopic method of Amlodipine and Chlorthalidone in bulk and Amlodac CH tablet dosage form by using simultaneous equation method. UV spectrophotometric method was developed and validated as per ICH guidelines using methanol as mobile phase. Amlodipine and Chlorthalidone individually follows the Beer-Lamberts law over concentration range 2.5-12.5μg/ml and 6.25-31.5μg/ml, Regression of coefficient was found to be r2=0.999 and r2=0.999 respectively. The percentage recovery was found in the range of 98% to 102% at three different levels. The proposed method was successfully applied for the determination of Amlodipine and Chlorthalidone in tablets dosage form as per ICH guidelines the result of the analysis were validated statistically and were found to be satisfactory.

Objective: The objective of the present study is to develop ultraviolet (UV)-spectroscopic method using pure drug and tablet dosage form that consistently produces a drug with a minimal variation that adheres to quality criteria of purity, identity, and potency. Methods: UV-spectrophotometric method has been developed using a solvent composed of methanol:water (30:70) as a diluent to determine the dalfampridine (DFP) content in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage form at predetermined λmax of 262 nm. Results: It was proved linear in the range of 02–12 μg/ml and exhibited a good correlation coefficient (r2 = 0.9915) and excellent mean recovery (0.004136347%). This method was successfully applied to the determination of DFP content of marketed tablet Dalstep 10 mg (Sun Pharmaceutical Pvt. Ltd.,) from India; the results were in good agreement with the label claims. Conclusion: The method proved to be simple, accurate, precise, specific, robust, and less time consuming and can be applied for the determination of DFP in bulk and marketed formulation.

This study presents new spectrophotometric method for the determination of Irbesartan. So far, no Area under Curve Spectrophotometric method has been reported for the estimation of Irbesartan from pharmaceutical dosage form. This paper deals with validation and development of a method by Area Under Curve for the assay of Irbesartan from pharmaceutical dosage forms. The principle for AUC curve method is “the area under two points on the mixture spectra is directly proportional to the concentration of the component of interest”. The area selected between 203 to 211 nm for determination of Irbesartan. The drug follows Beer-Lambert’s law over the concentration range of 5-25 μg/ml for Irbesartan. In accuracy study the % recovery of Irbesartan in bulk drug samples was ranged 96.45-93.84%, which indicates that the method was accurate. Validation of the proposed method was carried out for its accuracy, precision, and specificity according to ICH guidelines. The proposed methods can be successfully applied in routine work for the determination of Tigecycline in its pharmaceutical dosage form.

A simple, reliable, precise and sensitive UV-spectrophotometric method was developed and validated for the estimation of azithromycin in pharmaceutical dosage form and compared with official USP 2010 method. The proposed method utilizes the oxidation of azithromycin with potassium permanganate to liberate formaldehyde. This formaldehyde reacts with acetone-ammonium reagent and produces yellow colored chromogen 3,5-diacetyl-2,6-dihydrolutidine. The colored solution exhibited a maximum absorption at 412 nm which can be detected with UVspectrophotometer. The method was found linear over the concentration range 80% to 120% of the working concentration (R2=0.999). The intra- and inter-day RSD (n = 6) was ? 2.0%. The developed method was validated according to ICH guidelines and values of accuracy, precision and other statistical analysis were found to be in good accordance with the prescribed values. The proposed method was successfully applied for determination of azithromycin and the results have been compared with HPLC and thus enabling the utility of this new method for routine analysis azithromycin in pharmaceutical dosage forms DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/dujps.v12i2.21981 Dhaka Univ.
