We present the first record of Urostrophus vautieri for the state of Espírito Santo and a distribution map for the species. This species was previoulsy known from the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul. The present record represent an extension of nearly 200 km to the North from the nearest published record for the species.

Fifteen insect gall morphotypes were found on 11 plant species (8 families) in three fragments of the Dense Ombrophylous Lowland Forest, in the municipalities of Maracajá, Içara and Araranguá, Santa Catarina. Most of the galls occurred in leaves, followed by stems galls and a single gall morphotype in Leandra sp. (Melatomastaceae), occurred in both leaves and stems. Glabrous and isolated galls were more frequent than hairy and gregarious galls. Lauraceae was the family of plant with greater wealth of galls. It was pointed out the first record of the plant Microstachys serrulata (Euphorbiaceae) for the state of Santa Catarina. Galls found in Ilex theezans (Aquifoliaceae), Microstachys serrulata (Euphorbiaceae), Dahlstedtia muehlbergiana (Fabaceae), Nectandra oppositifolia (Lauraceae), Leandra sp. (Melastomataceae), Miconia sellowiana (Melastomataceae), Myrcia multiflora (Myrtaceae) and Urera nitida (Urticaceae) were recorded for the first time in the State of Santa Catarina.

In this work, we describe the first occurrence record of the exotic species of deer Axis axis (Erxleben, 1777) from natural environments of the state of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. The study provides information about the implications of the invasion of the region’s ecosystem, which is seen as a negative factor in the local community and represents a major conservation challenge.

Dilaridae is a small family of Neuroptera that includes fewer than 80 described species of which 10 are known from Brazil in the states of Amazonas, Rondônia, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina. This note includes the first record of the family for the state of Pernambuco, with the report of Nallachius dicolor Adams, 1970 in the city of Jatobá (northeastern Brazil).

There is a lack of knowledge regarding Lepidoptera species in altitudinal grassland areas, especially in the state of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. Here we report some records of Vanessa braziliensis (Moore, 1883) and Urbanus zagorus (Plötz, 1880) in high altitude areas. We have likely registered both the first record of U. zagorus for the state of Santa Catarina and the highest altitudinal record of V. braziliensis in Brazil.

Abstract With the objective of studying the entomofauna of microhymenoptera parasitoids associated with A. fraterculus, we collected fruits from native fruit trees in Caçador, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. We evaluated fruit from Eugenia involucrata, E. uniflora, Campomanesia xanthocarpa, Psidium cattleyanum (red and yellow), and Rubus sp. For each fruit tree species, we collected 40 fruits from five plants, for a total of 200 fruits per species. The fruits were maintained in plastic boxes containing sterilized sand to obtain puparia, which subsequently, were maintained in cages until the emergence of flies and/or parasitoids. In the fruits collected, we encountered puparia of A. fraterculus, from which emerged Aganaspis nordlanderi, A. pelleranoi (Figitidae: Eucoilinae), Doryctobracon brasiliensis and D. areolatus (Braconidae: Opiinae). This is the first record of the species A. nordlanderi in the State of Santa Catarina. This study also represents the first record of A. fraterculus as host of A. nordlanderi.

We report Melanophryniscus biancae Baldo, Pie, Firkowski, Ribeiro & Corrêa, 2015 from Araçatuba, Tijucas do Sul, Paraná, Brazil at 1,615–1,645 m altitude, the first record from the state of Paraná. On 8 January 2018 we heard individuals calling during the day in the leaves of Paepalanthus planifolius (Bong.) Körn. where eggs, tadpoles, and three adults were collected. This species was recently described from two upland marshes (1,310–1,465 m altitude) in northeastern Santa Catarina, where it was found at night breeding in water tanks of Eriocaulon ligulatum (Vell.) L.B.Sm. Included here are new data on this species’ habitat, activity period, plant species used for oviposition, and the first female measurements.
