Despite the fact that the wind tunnel tests have been carried out on iced transmission lines subjected to wind load, it is not practical to do wind tunnel tests due to its high cost. This paper describes a detailed numerical simulation method that can be used to instead of wind tunnel tests. Based on the galloping mechanism of iced transmission lines, the aerodynamic test was simulated with the typical crescent super-large thickness iced four bundled conductors. One of the results highlighted in this study is that the wind angle of attack had significant influence on the aerodynamics of iced conductors. The Den-Hartog and O.Nigol coefficient were calculated to determine galloping of iced transmission lines, comparing with the reference of wind tunnel test in the Zhejiang university, the range of the wind angle of attack to the bundled conductor which can lead to gallop is larger than single wire, but the absolute value of amplitude is less than the single conductor, split conductor is more likely to gallop than single conductor.

In this study, the effect of blade curve on the power coefficient of a Savonius rotor is investigated by means of numerical simulation and wind tunnel tests. The tests were conducted on six rotors with identical dimensions but different blade curves, and the influences of blade curve and Reynolds number were studied. Followed by a simulation of the flow field around rotors with identical semi-circular curves and different overlaps, torque was calculated using pressure distribution on the blade surface, and the effect of Reynolds number and blade curve were studied on torque as well. Results indicate that changing the blade curve affects the power coefficient and torque by causing different drag coefficients. Also the rotor that yields the highest power coefficient and torque in one revolution compared with other rotors is highlighted.

The main research methods to predict and research wind loads on buildings at home and abroad include wind tunnel tests, field measurement and numerical simulation. However, the wind tunnel tests and field measurement require big funds, long cycle and complicated measurement. Moreover, numerical simulation technology is quite mature. In this paper, based on fluid dynamics software CFD and criteria Reynolds k-ε turbulence model, wind field of the village flat roof with parapet is studied using the numerical simulation technology. Furthermore, the wind pressure data in different wind angles are processed and analyzed. The results show that wind angle has a significant impact on the wind pressure and its distribution. When the wind angle is 0 °, the air pressure-fluctuation in each node of the roof is small, and the pressure coefficient is steady between -1.50 and -2.00. When the wind angle is 45 °, the air pressure fluctuation in each node of the roof is large, and the pressure coefficient fluctuates between -0.8 and -3.0. When the wind angle is 90 °, the wind pressure-fluctuation in each node of the roof is equal to the fluctuation between 0 ° and 45 °wind direction angle, and the wind pressure coefficient fluctuates between -0.7 and -1.7. When incoming flow is along the asymmetric axis, the wind pressure-fluctuation is large, and the wind pressure is greater than that in the large negative pressure zone which is along the symmetry axis, which can bring serious damage on the roof.

This paper mainly studies the distribution characteristics of surface wind pressure on low-rise buildings. Based on the theory of fluid dynamics, this study uses CFD software Fluent 6.3.26 to conduct numerical simulation of the models in wind tunnel tests by Yong Chul Kim involving four working conditions of different spacing or area density in regular arrangement. Compared with data of wind tunnel tests, the results show that different spacing or area density has significant influence on surface wind pressure of low-rise buildings and surrounding buildings have shielding effect over target buildings.

In order to study the influence of some key factors such as the turbulence intensity related to micro topography and the diameter of conductor to the aerodynamic characteristics of iced conductor , the model is built based on the characteristic of iced conductor with crescent type ,to simulate the aerodynamic parameters for it and compare with the wind tunnel tests .The results show that we can make supplement reference to the wind tunnel tests through the numerical simulation method. Besides , we adjust the model and make research for the influence of diameter of conductor. The aerodynamic parameters we get can provide some reference to the research of galloping conductor.
