This study aims determine a relationship between the aerodynamic and heat exchange characteristics of the air flow in a segmented ventilation system of the brake disc with improved heat dissipation in the boundary layer of the air flow. Classical equations of heat and mass transfer in the boundary layer of the air flow cooling the brake disc ventilation chamber were used. The cooling performance of the system was assessed using the method of similarity. The obtained theoretical findings were confirmed by CFD-modelling. Mathematical models were developed for vented discs with both continuous grooves and slotted grooves. A criterion for assessing the performance of brake disc ventilation systems was proposed, consisting in turbulization of the air flow inside the device under study. According to the obtained analytical dependencies, a 20-fold acceleration of the air flow decreases the turbulization parameter by 1.24 times. An increase in the temperature difference in the boundary layer by 8 times leads to an increase in the turbulization parame-ter by 86.2 times. Using the criterion proposed for assessing the work performance, the aerodynamic and heat exchange characteristics of the system under study were calculated. As a result, a relationship between the design parameters of the segmented ventilation system and improved heat dissipation in the boundary layer of the cooling air flow is proposed. The conducted CFD modelling confirmed the aerodynamic characteristics of the system under study obtained theoretical-ly. This mathematical model together with the turbulization parameter can be used when both developing modern vented brake discs and assessing the existing cooling systems of friction units in order to minimize the possibility of reduced heat exchange processes.

This paper describes the aerodynamic design and assessment of a blended-wing–body (BWB) configuration under the distributed electric propulsion (DEP) installation constraints. The aerodynamic design rationale and process is described, as well as how the DEP system is considered and simplified in the optimization design process. Both the BWB configuration and the DEP induced effects are numerically simulated and analyzed using the Reynolds Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) flow solvers. To further demonstrate the feasibility and reliability of the design approach, the wind tunnel tests of a scaled model of the designed BWB configuration are carried out, and both the aerodynamic characteristics and the BWB surface flow are measured and analyzed. The results indicate the reliability and feasibility of the optimization design method introduced in this paper.

With the rapid development of FSAE, the speed of racing cars has increased year by year. As the main research content of racing cars, aerodynamics has received extensive attention from foreign teams. For racing cars, the aerodynamic force on the aerodynamic device ultimately acts on the tires through the transmission of the body and the suspension. When the wheel is subjected to the vertical load generated by the aerodynamic device, the ultimate adhesion capacity of the wheel is improved. Under changing conditions, racing wheels can withstand greater lateral and tangential forces. Therefore, the effects of aerodynamics have a more significant impact on handling stability. The FSAE racing car of Jilin University was taken as the research object, and this paper combines the wind tunnel test, the numerical simulation and the dynamics simulation of the racing system. The closed-loop design process of the aerodynamics of the FSAE racing car was established, and the joint study of aerodynamic characteristics and handling stability of racing car under different body attitudes was realized. Meanwhile, the FSAE car was made the modification of aerodynamic parameter on the basis of handling stability. The results show that, after the modification of the aerodynamic parameters, the critical speed of the car when cornering is increased, the maneuverability of the car is improved, the horoscope test time is reduced by 0.525 s, the downforce of the car is increased by 11.39%, the drag is reduced by 2.85% and the lift-to-drag ratio is increased by 14.70%. Moreover, the pitching moment is reduced by 82.34%, and the aerodynamic characteristics and aerodynamic efficiency of the racing car are obviously improved. On the basis of not changing the shape of the body and the aerodynamic kit, the car is put forward to shorten the running time of the car and improve the comprehensive performance of the car, so as to improve the performance of the car in the race.

AbstractThe clear differences between the atmosphere of Mars and the Earth coupled with the lack of a domestic research basis were significant challenges for the aerodynamic prediction and verification of Tianwen-1. In addition, the Mars entry, descent, and landing (EDL) mission led to specific requirements for the accuracy of the aerodynamic deceleration performance, stability, aerothermal heating, and various complex aerodynamic coupling problems of the entry module. This study analyzes the key and difficult aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic problems related to the Mars EDL process. Then, the study process and results of the design and optimization of the entry module configuration are presented along with the calculations and experiments used to obtain the aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic characteristics in the Martian atmosphere. In addition, the simulation and verification of the low-frequency free oscillation characteristics under a large separation flow are described, and some special aerodynamic coupling problems such as the aeroelastic buffeting response of the trim tab are discussed. Finally, the atmospheric parameters and aerodynamic characteristics obtained from the flight data of the Tianwen-1 entry module are compared with the design data. The data obtained from the aerodynamic design, analysis, and verification of the Tianwen-1 entry module all meet the engineering requirements. In particular, the flight data results for the atmospheric parameters, trim angles of attack, and trim axial forces are within the envelopes of the prediction deviation zones.
