The article examines Russian language textbooks written by American authors in order to identify the attitude of their authors to the work and personality of F. M. Dostoevsky. The article reveals the reasons that prompted American scholars to promote the introduction of teaching of the Russian language in the curriculum of American universities, one of them being appreciation of the role of Russian literature in the world. Therefore, this article examines the issue of how the life and work of one of the leading Russian writers of the second half of the XIX century Dostoevsky reflected in the textbooks of the Russian language for Americans. The author of the article examines more than 50 textbooks of Russian as a foreign language published in the United States in the period from the beginning of the twentieth century to our time. Using the method of continuous sampling, the author selects contexts in the textbooks in focus dedicated to Dostoevsky, divides them into groups, and reveals the degree of interest of American compilers of Russian textbooks in Dostoevsky - the writer and the person. The author concludes that, despite the interaction of cultures in the modern world and the interest in Russian literature in the United States, the number of references to Dostoevsky in the American textbooks of the Russian language is small, and the contexts containing his name – not very informative.

Enclosed in a letter, written in September 1815 by William David Lewis (1792-1881) to the United States minister in Sweden, Jonathan Russell (1771-1832), is an interesting and unique example of an American's effort to compose verse in the Russian language. Though only a curiosity of Russian literature, “Yankee Doodle” illustrates the degree of facility gained by one of the first American students of Russian after more than a year of study. Of additional interest is the pronunciation guide which Lewis furnished Russell—rare evidence on how Russian was actually spoken in the early nineteenth century.

The article attempts to identify the stylistic functions of Greek origin vocabulary in Russian-language texts. The material of the study are selected works of the poet of the second quarter of the XIX century, Alexei Khomyakov as one of the founders of Russian philosophical thought and the Slavophil movement. The method of continuous sampling of the text selected Greekism, found in the poems of the author, regardless of the time of their penetration into the Russian language. Using contextual analysis revealed their expressive functions. Particular attention is paid to the cultural function of Greek vocabulary as a translator of Hellenistic and Byzantine cultures that have had a significant impact on Russian culture.

The purpose of the study is to determine the role of the USA dollar in the modern world and consider the monetary and financial instruments used by the United States to maintain its economic and political hegemony, as well as the possible consequences of using these instruments. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were set in the work: to study the economic history of the dominance of the dollar, to determine the impact of monetary policy and financial instruments of the United States on the world economy, to analyze the role of the IMF in maintaining the financial hegemony of the United States. Scientific hypothesis of the study is that the dollar and the financial institutions of the United States are key components of the modern economic world order and substantiate the monetary and financial hegemony of the United States, which consists in the ability of the United States to control the world economy, influence the economic situation in different countries, and implement its geopolitical goals with the help of economic instruments. This article contains an analysis of the US foreign economic policy aimed at the maintaining the primacy of the United States in both the sphere of world monetary and financial relations and in the political dimension. The article provides a summary of the most important events in the economic history of the dollar: the collapse of the Bretton Woods system and the 2008 global financial crisis. Particular attention is paid to the financial instruments of US foreign policy influence, in particular, access to financial markets, investments, as well as the use of the IMF as an instrument for achieving US foreign policy goals. The scientific novelty lies in the approach to US geoeconomics, namely the imposition of the economic dimension on the political one. As a result, it is concluded that the US dollar, the Federal Reserve System and the IMF are indeed the most authoritative and significant components of the existing world economic system, using which the United States acts as a monetary and financial hegemon and has a wide range of tools to control the global financial system.

It is generally recognized that Pope Paul VI has played a significant role in the development of initiatives for peace in Vietnam, and his efforts and attitudes have frequently been contrasted with those of the Catholic bishops of the United States. Since the publication of John XXIII's Pacem in Terris in 1963, and especially since Paul VI's visit to the United Nations in October, 1965, the papacy has attempted to create and fill a new role for itself as an agency of peace and reconciliation in the modern world. A close examination of the role of the Pope in initiatives for peace in Vietnam, however, reveals both the difficulties of the role and the extent to which the scarcely acknowledged political commitments of the Vatican profoundly affect the efficacy of these initiatives.

Особое внимание уделено тому, какие жанры литературы привлекают детей сегодня и что нравится читать детям-билингвам младшего и среднего школьного возраста. Основываясь на собственном опыте воспитания двух детей-билингвов и опыте знакомых мам, автор разбирает данный вопрос и предлагает некоторые советы родителям и учителям при выборе текстов для чтения и работы с ними. The article studies the role of reading the russian literature in the bilingual families living outside Russia. It recommands which texts arent necessary for bilingual children.

This study demonstrates the significance of individual difference factors, particularly gender and sensation seeking, in predicting media choice (examined through hypothetical descriptions of films that participants anticipated they would view). This study used a 2 (Positive mood/negative mood) × 2 (High arousal/low arousal) within-subject design with 544 undergraduate students recruited from a large northeastern university in the United States. Results showed that happy films and high arousal films were preferred over sad films and low-arousal films, respectively. In terms of gender differences, female viewers reported a greater preference than male viewers for happy-mood films. Also, male viewers reported a greater preference for high-arousal films compared to female viewers, and female viewers reported a greater preference for low-arousal films compared to male viewers. Finally, high sensation seekers reported a preference for high-arousal films. Implications for research design and importance of exploring media characteristics are discussed.
