This work is an analysis of characterization in T. H. White's version of the Arthurian Legend , a tetralogy entitled The Once and Futune King and a fifth novel, The Book of Merlyn, which waspublished posthumously. The first part of this study presents an outline of the legend up to and including Sir Thomas Malory's text, which is the basic source for T. H. White's Arthurian series. The second part deals with the novels which constitute the tetralogy: The Sword in the Stone, The Queen of Air and Darkess, The Ill-made Knight and The Candy in the Wind,and also with The Book of Merlyn. More emphasis is given to The Sword in the Stone, the first novel of the tetralogy , which narrates the boyhood of King Arthur under the guidance of Merlyn, since it is White's original contribution to the legend and for its bearing on the other novels. Characterization is discussed as it becomes a thematic vehicle for White's contemporary preoccupation with the search for identity. Tne quest for the human is at the same time a theme andthe basis of the process of characterization used by T. H. White.

The legend of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table is immemorial. The heroic knights and their king’s tales contribute western society a great literature that is still well- known today. King Arthur along with the theme of chivalry greatly impacted not only western civilization, but all of society throughout the centuries. King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table have been around for thousands of years but are only legends. The first reference to King Arthur was in the Historia Brittonum written by Nennius a Welsh monk around 830A.D. The fascinating legends however did not come until 1133 A.D in the work Historia Regum Britaniae written by a Welsh cleric, Geoffrey of Monmouth. His work was actually meant to be a historical document, but over time many other writers added on fictional tales. The Round Table was added in 1155 A.D by a French poet Maistre Wace. Both the English and French cycles of Arthurian Legend are controlled by three inter-related themes:


This short paper makes no original contribution to knowledge but simply describes and identifies a range of problems encountered in practice by town planners and architects. The term ‘ architectural ’ in the subject title of the Discussion Meeting is taken to imply that the results of aerodynamic research are now as applicable to architectural as to engineering problems. Architecture is broadly interpreted as the coordination of many techniques to give significant form to social programmes. As this is a comprehensive activity, it follows that the problems caused by air in motion range from the location and layout of whole cities at one end of the scale, to the design of a window or the control of an ornamental jet of water at the other. In the middle of this range typical problems arise from the siting of buildings singly and in groups, and in the structure and cladding of high-rise and low-rise buildings to resist wind, rain penetration and air-borne pollution.

The textbook is undeniably a prime source for identifying the important structures or mentality inherent in the culture of an educational system. The objective was to identify which intercultural paradigm of the “other” was prevalent in Quebec society during this period through the analysis of Canadian history and the history of the Catholic church textbooks used in French primary and secondary education in Quebec, from 1870 to 1950. The use of contemporary concepts from theology and the history of religion such as “inclusivity” and “exclusivity” is singularly apt for historical and pedagogical research of intercultural mentalities and realities in education. Thus, it is hoped that an original contribution will be made to the important structures that have shaped the teaching of religion and of the history of Quebec during the period in question. This paper inspects Arthur Pendragon Camelot evolution in Merlin, the research review on the Citadel of Camelot, Camelot Administration, Knights of Camelot, Early History of Camelot, The Intensification of The Once and Future King, Map of Camelot, and the Sovereignty of Arthur. Camelot Castle is the castle where the royal family live, and where the court is held. The citadel houses a garrison of at least 12,000 men and had never fallen in a siege before Morgause's invasion by her immortal army. It is currently the home of Guinevere Pendragon, the Queen of Camelot after her husband King Arthur Pendragon. In virtual fan art, Arthur Pendragon is shown to be a very wealthy kingdom as it offers a prize of a thousand gold coins for participation in its tournaments. Camelot is widely known for its laws banning all forms of magic and enchantments on penalty of death, usually by burning or beheading. However, the meter theater illustrates of Merlin who is Arthur's servant, secret protector, and best friend, and Gaius's ward and apprentice. Serves as an unofficial member of Arthur's Round Table and is a direct enemy of Mordred and Morgana. Waiting for Arthur to rise again. He is destined to protect Arthur so he can unite Albion under one high King.

The reception of the legend of Arthur in the Tudor era presents something of a paradox. On the one hand, Arthur featured prominently in pageants and public spectacles throughout the period, and at times played a surprisingly important role in foreign policy. On the other hand, chroniclers found it increasingly difficult to defend Arthur’s historicity, and the period failed to produce a major work of Arthurian literature beyond Spenser’s Faerie Queene, in which the British prince cuts a perplexingly elusive figure. With its complex and conflicting attitudes to the Arthurian tradition, the Tudor era seems to constitute a bridge or way-station between the Arthur of the Middle Ages and the Arthur of more securely post-medieval (and, hence, medievalist) eras.

The expedition on Malory’s Morte d’Arthur emphasis on the masculine activity of chivalry—fighting, questing, ruling— while parallelly reflects the chivalric enterprise as impossible in absence of the feminine in a subjugated position. The medieval romance text of Malory differs from other Arthurian romance literature in the explicit legislation (as opposed to implicit coding) of chivalric values, most notably in the swearing of the Pentecostal Oath, an event unique to Malory’s text. This paper emphasis on the way the institution of the Oath defines and sharpens specific ideals of masculine and feminine gender identities in the Arthurian community, arguing that a compulsion to fulfill these ideals drives the narrative of the Morte d’ Arthur forward to its inevitable ending. Thus, the function of gender in the Morte d’Arthur can only be adequately explored in a book that traces in depth the development of gender constraints from the beginning of the “Tale of King Arthur” to the “Day of Destiny” and its aftermath. One reason the Morte d’Arthur merits a sustained study in terms of gender is due to its status as the most comprehensive and sustained medieval treatment of the Arthurian legend by a single author. This text is about the famous fiction stories about legendary King Arthur, his life and death predominantly compose the spine of Malory’s tale. This book explores musicalizations of Arthurian legend as filtered through specific tellings by Mark Twain, T. H. White, and Monty Python. For centuries, Arthurian legend with its tales of Camelot, romance, and chivalry has captured imaginations throughout Europe and the Americas. In the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, musical versions of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table have abounded in the United States, shaping the legend for American audiences through song. The ever-shifting, age-old tale of King Arthur and his world is one which thrives on adaptation for its survival. New generations tell the story in their own ways, updating or enhancing the relevance for a fresh audience. Taking a case-study approach, this work foregrounds the role of music in selected Arthurian adaptations, examining six stage and film musicals. It considers how musical versions in twentieth- and twenty-first-century popular culture interpret the legend of King Arthur, contending that music guides the audience to understand this well-known tale and its characters in new and unexpected ways. All of the productions considered include an overtly modern perspective on the legend, intruding and even commenting on the tale of King Arthur. Shifting from an idealistic utopia to a silly place, the myriad notions of Camelot offer a look at the importance of myth in American popular culture.
