The estimate of perspectiveness of 20 species of North-American trees andbushes of the family of Rosaceae which are cultivated in the arboretum ofMountain-Taiga station of FEB RAS. Higher indicators (96–97 points) haveAmelanchier spicata, A. alnifolia, Aronia melanocarpa, Physocarpus opulifolia,P. monogynus, P. capitatus, Prunus americana, Rubus odoratus, Rubus occidentalis. Quite perspective (82–90 points) are Cerasus besseyi, Crataegus flabellate,C. macracantha, C. rotundifolia, C. submollis, Padus pensylvanica, P. serotina,P virginiana, Rosa nutcana, Sorbus americana. Less perspective (67 points) anddemanding further study is Rosa Palnstris.

During the expedition of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ZIN RAS) in 1998, a fossil impression of a polychaete worm belonging to the family Nephtyidae Grube, 1850, containing fragments of jaws, was found in the west of Sakhalin. The find is dated to the Middle and Upper Miocene. There are no published records of any finds of fossil nephtyids in the area. Based on the analysis of the jaw shape, it is concluded that the nephtyid impression may belong to the genus Nephtys Cuvier 1817 or the genus Aglaophamus Kinberg, 1865.

AbstractMorphological, life history, and distributional data are presented for North American species of the subgenus Stygomomonia (sensu stricto) Szalay, 1943. Adults of the seven previously recognized species are redescribed, and deutonymphs of five of these species are described for the first time. Two species, S. (s.s.) neomexicana Cook and S. (s.s.) occidentalis Cook are substantially revised on the basis of an examination of the types and extensive series of newly collected specimens. Three new species are described, S. (s.s.) californiensis on the basis of deutonymphs and adults, and S. (s.s.) imamurai and S. (s.s.) cooki on the basis of adults. A new diagnosis of the subgenus is proposed and discussed, the relationships of the various species are discussed, and a key to deutonymphs and adults of North American species is presented. New distributional data are presented for all species, and dispersal patterns from Pleistocene refugia are discussed.

The systematic position of the genus Massalongia and the closely related genera Koerberia, Vestergrenopsis, and Placynthium in the family Peltigeraceae including lichens with hemiangiocarpic apothecia is discussed. The ontogeny of a hemiangiocarpic apothecium is described briefly. A key for the determination of the genera is provided.A general survey is given for the morphology and anatomy of the genus Massalongia. The two species, M. carnosa and M. microphylliza, are described in detail. The new combination M. microphylliza is made.

A new species, Pholis clemensi, referred to the family Pholidae, is named and described from 12 specimens taken in southern British Columbia waters and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Pholis clemensi is compared with other members of the genus, and a key is given to the North American species.

The type materials of Neopygmephoridae and Pygmephoridae deposited in the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, Russia and the Museum of Zoology, I. ABSTRACTThe family Austropanorpidae (Mecoptera) was described by Willmann in 1977 from the Eocene of Australia, based on one genus and species, Austropanorpa australis Riek, 1952. During a restudy of the collection of the Paleontological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, a second and much older representative of this family was found. This specimen, described as Orthophlebia martynovae Sukatsheva, 1985 from Siberia (Russia), was considered until now to be a member of family Orthophlebiidae. We transfer this species to the Austropanorpidae, extending the age of this family back to the Early Jurassic. An updated diagnoses of the family Austropanorpidae and genus Austropanorpa are presented here.
