Design and Development of Vibration Testing Fixtures

This paper deals with the Design of Vibration Testing Fixtures for Random Vibration loads as specified by the MIL 810 military standards. Following selection of the right material and configuration of the fixtures, CAD models are generated and numerically checked for natural frequencies and mode shapes using Finite Element Analysis. Based on these results, the response of the fixtures to the MIL 810 standard Random Vibration profile input is measured using Finite Element Analysis and the transmissibility is calculated.Finally, the fixture is tested experimentally for to the MIL 810 standard Random Vibration profile input and based on these values; transmissibility of the fixture is computed. The experimental result is compared to the Finite Element results and thus, found that the fixture can be used for testing missile packages at the Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad.

This paper presents evaluation of analytical and experimental result discussion for vibration analysis of composite beam with crack. Beams and beam like elements are principal constituents of many mechanical structures and used widely in high speed machinery, aircraft and light weight structures. Finite Element Analysis is carried out using ANSYS 14.5. The model of beam is prepared and used for Finite Element Analysis. The model analysis is used to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a structure. The experimental analysis is conducted by using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) device which is used to detect the potential faults and checking the status of the machine through the vibration analysis.

Introduction. Miniscrews have proved quite effective in fixed orthodontic treatment. They can be placed in areas like palatal interradicular zones or midpalatal suture. Despite the value of these methods and their ever-increasing use, their characteristics are not assessed before when implanted in palatal interradicular areas or in the midpalatal suture. We aimed to assess, for the first time, the dynamics of full arch distalization using such miniscrews. Methods. A 3D model of maxilla with all permanent dentition was created from a CT scan volume. Tissues were segmented and differentiated. Afterward, miniscrews and appliances were designed, and the whole model was registered within a finite element analysis software by assigning proper mechanical properties to tissues and orthodontic appliances. The full arches were distalized using transpalatal arches with miniscrews as anchorage devices (in two different models). The extents of stresses and patterns of movements of various elements (teeth, miniscrews, appliances, tissues) were estimated. Results and Conclusions. Comparing the two models, it is obvious that in both models, the stress distribution is the highest in the TPA arms and the head of the miniscrew where the spring is connected. In comparison with the displacement in the X-axis, the “mesial in” rotation is seen in the first molar of both models. But there is one exception and that is the “mesial out” rotation of the right second molar. In all measurements, the amount of movement in Model 2 (with palatal interradicular miniscrews) is more than that in Model 1 (with midpalatal miniscrew). In the Y-axis, more tipping is seen in Model 2, especially the anterior teeth (detorque) and the first molar, but in Model 1, bodily movement of the first molar is more evident. Along the Z-axis, the mesial intrusion of the first molar and the distal extrusion of this tooth can be seen in both models. Again, the displacement values are higher in the second model (with interradicular miniscrews). In comparison with micromotion and stress distribution of miniscrews, in Model 1, maximum stress and micromotion is observed at the head of the miniscrew where it is attached to the spring. Of course, this amount of micromotion increases over time. The same is true for Model 2, but with a lower micromotion. As for the amount of stress, the stress distribution in both miniscrews of both models is almost uniform and rather severe.

In this article, three small wind turbine blades of different materials were manufactured. Finite element analysis was carried out using finite element software ANSYS 14.5 on modeled blades of National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics 4412 airfoil profile. From finite element analysis, first, two flap-wise natural frequencies and mode shapes of three different blades are obtained. Experimental vibration analysis of manufactured blades was carried out using fast Fourier transform analyzer to find the first two flap-wise natural frequencies. Finally, the results obtained from the finite element analysis and experimental test of three blades are compared. Based on vibration analysis, we found that the natural frequency of glass fiber reinforced plastic blade reinforced with aluminum sheet metal (small) strips increases compared with the remaining blades. An increase in the natural frequency indicates an increase in the stiffness of blade.

In this paper, two experimental techniques, Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry and Stroboscopic Interferometry, and two different finite element analysis packages are used to measure or to analyze the frequencies and mode shapes of a micromachined, cross-shaped torsion structure. Four sets of modal data are compared and shown having a significant discrepancy in their frequency values, although their mode shapes are quite consistent. Inconsistency in the frequency results due to erroneous inputs of geometrical and material parameters to the finite element analysis can be salvaged by applying the finite element model updating procedure. Two updating cases show that the optimization sequences converge quickly and significant improvements in frequency prediction are achieved. With the inclusion of the thickness parameter, the second case yields a maximum of under 0.4% in frequency difference, and all parameters attain more reliable updated values.

This paper studies natural frequencies and mode shapes of a glide head with a piezoelectric transducer (PZT) through calibrated experiments and a finite element analysis. In the experiments, the PZT transducer served as an actuator exciting the glide head from 100 kHz to 1.3 MHz, and a laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) measured displacement of the glide head at the inner or outer rail. The natural frequencies were measured through PZT impedance and frequency response functions from PZT to LDV. In the finite element analysis, the glide head was meshed by brick elements. The finite element results show that there are two types of vibration modes: slider modes and PZT modes. Only the slider modes are important to glide head applications. Moreover, natural frequencies predicted from the finite element analysis agree well with the experimental results within 5% of error. Finally, the finite element analysis identifies four critical slider dimensions whose tolerance will significantly vary the natural frequencies: PZT bonding length, wing thickness, slider thickness, and air bearing recess depth.

The vice frame bears and transfers the forces and loads between the bogie and the vehicle body.The strength of the vice frame relates directly to the stability and smoothness of the vehicle. In this study, finite element analysis is utilized first to analyse the structural strength and fatigue life of the vice frame, and the recognize the weak parts of its structure in order to enhance its structural strength in the following design work.The finite element analysis is performed on a simulation software Ansys. Then an experiment is designed to test the fatigue strength of the vice frame. The experimental result indicates that the fatigue strength of the object corresponds to the standards and the finite element analysis has high feasibility in solving this kind of problem.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of combined laser needle-knife and massage on cervical spondylotic vertebral arteriopathy patients. Summary of background data: With the recent rise of electronic businesses, the incidence of cervical spondylosis has also risen rapidly. Methods: Cervical spondylotic vertebral arteriopathy patients were treated using laser needle-knife with massage, and compared to patients who only received the massage. A 3D anatomical and hemodynamic model was developed. Results: The symptomatic and functional overall scores were reduced by 71.43% after the combined treatment. Results from the finite element analysis indicated that the maximum flow rate of the left vertebral artery was improved by 47.52% and the right was improved by 38.67%. Conclusion: A combined treatment of cervical spondylotic vertebral arteriopathy using laser needle-knife and massage is an effective approach with a therapeutic mechanism closely related to hemodynamics.

To Evaluate SRM effectively, according to the structure characteristics of solid rocket motor, the series of solid rocket motor ICT images were processed with edge detection ,edge thinning, contour tracing, contour segmentation, and contour fitting. The raster images were converted to vector images which can be recognized by the CAD modeling software. Then, according to the vector images, SRM was modeled by the software, and the model was studied with finite-element analysis. The experimental result indicates that the quality of the model is good, and the result of the finite-element analysis can reflect the state of the experimental SRM.
