A novel LabVIEW based system is designed to automatically sample hydrological samples in deep rivers. This paper is intended to describe the principles of the system design, the hardware component architecture and software design for the sampling operations. The designed system is capable of dynamically measuring the depth of water using a pressure sensor, as well as automatically taking hydrology samples by means of measuring cross-section 6 point method. The sampling operation tests showed the designed system has higher degree of automation, higher measurement precision, higher reliability and practicability.

In order to acquire large traffic data, a wireless vehicle detector based on anisotropic magnetoresistive sensors and ZigBee technology is design. The principle, system design and software design are introduced in detail. The experiment result shows that the wireless vehicle detector can detect the presence and the driving direction of a vehicle. Make further effort, the speed of a vehicle can be estimated. The vehicle detector will be widely applied with its easy installation and high performance.

In this paper, the design of an automatic window is presented. The proposed window closes and opens automatically during and after a rainfall. The automatic system was developed with a focus on hospitals in order to allow medical staff and other supporting staff to concentrate on their primary responsibilities of taking care of patients. The system design includes a PIC16F877A microcontroller which gets activated when a moisture detector sensor sends a high logic signal to it. The microcontroller executes its embedded program by activating the stepper motor through a ULN2003 current-dependent integrated circuit (IC) chip resulting in stepwise control of the window. Hence, the window is automatically closed when rainfall is detected but opens and remains open when no rain is detected. We intend to extend our design to automatic opening and closing of the windows at others times in addition to during and after rainfall; for instance, window opening and closing every day at specific times in the morning and evening respectively.

Abstract Development of an automatic system for urine analysis is described. A bench-top instrument will simultaneously perform seven chemical tests and give a value for the specific gravity of urine specimens, at a sample rate of 120 specimens per hour. Reagents packaged in a unique reagent cassette are used for protein, glucose, ketone, pH, occult blood, and bilirubin, and the falling drop method is used to determine specific gravity in this discrete microsampling, multichannel analyzer. A digital, dual wavelength, ratio-reading spectrophotometer for use with surface reactions permits high reproducibility. The total system design includes positive patient-sample identification, central digital programming of all dispense, read-and-compute functions, a digital processor for automatic two-point calibration of each of the channels, decoding in the "plus" system and printout on the sample tag, and the electronic interface with American Standard Code for Information Interchange output for teletype and (or) computer compatibility.

Aiming at how to solve the problem of cheque image discrimination quickly and accurately,an automatic system for cheque discrimination by using Optical Character Recgnition (OCR) technique based on the features of a cheque image was designed and developed, the main functional modules and key technologies of the system were studied, and all the functional modules were organized in a good logic way,finally, the automatic system for cheque discrimination was intergratted. The results of the experimental tests showed that the system can identify the information of one cheque quickly and accurate, the discrimination results were good.
