Abstract Background: Gender-based violence (GBV) is a common reproductive health problem especially in developing countries. It is still the first research priority area in Africa that is identified by World Health Organization. The main aim of this study was to identify the prevalence and determinants of Gender Based Violence among Baso high school female students in Debre Berhan town, Ethiopia.Methods: An institutional based cross-sectional study was conducted in Debre Berhan, Ethiopia. A total of 350 female students were selected by stratified sampling technique. Self-administered structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. Each independent variable was fitted separately into bivariate logistic analysis and Variables with p-values less than 0.25 in bivariable model were fitted into multivariate logistic regression analysis to evaluate the degree of association with gender-based violence. The significance level was obtained with 95% CI and p-value < 0.05.Result: The prevalence of GBV during the lock down was 124 (36.2%; 95% CI: 0.31, 0.41), and the lifetime prevalence of GBV was 162(47.2%; 95% CI: 0.42, 0.53). The prevalence of life time sexual violence and physical violence were found to be 96 (27.99%; 95% CI: 0.23, 0.33), and 130 (37.99%; 95% CI: 0.33, 0.43), respectively. Sexual violence and physical violence during the lockdown were found to be 73 (21.28), and 61(17.78%), respectively. Respondents educational performance (AOR = 4.52; 95% CI: 1.82,11.3), monthly pocket money received from their parents (AOR = 2.97; 95% CI: 1.56,5.64), free discussion about reproductive issue(AOR = 2.72; 95% CI: 1.42,5.21), and experience of sexual intercourse(AOR = 13.22; 95% CI: 4.80, 36.37) were found to be determinants of gender based violence.Conclusion and recommendation: Gender Based Violence is still a significant sexual and reproductive health issue in Ethiopia. Governmental and non-governmental organizations should give due attention for this problem. Moreover, further large-scale studies are needed to estimate the national figure of GBV and to identify route causes.

Conclusion and recommendation Gender Based Violence is still a significant sexual and reproductive health issue in Ethiopia. Governmental and non-governmental organizations should give due attention to this problem. Abstract Background: Sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) continues to be a concern of health, sexual and reproductive rights, sustainable peace and development issue that cuts across boundaries, cultural backgrounds and socio-economic groups to touch individuals of every sort around the world. SGBV remains one of the greatest inequalities of our time that takes life, violates the right they are entitled with, and seriously endangers women and girl’s mental and physical wellbeing, as well as sexual and economical security. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and associated factors of sexual and gender based violence among female high school students in Debre Markos Town, North West Ethiopia:. Methods: An institutionally based-cross-sectional study was conducted among 309 randomly selected female high school students in Debre Markos Town. Data was collected using self- administered questionnaire. Data was analyzed using multivariate logistic regression with odds ratio and 95% confidence interval to identify factors associated with sexual and gender based violence. Statistical significance was declared at p-value < 0.05.Results: The lifetime prevalence of GBV, sexual violence, and physical violence were found to be 47.0, 23.3, and 39.5%, respectively. The prevalence of sexual violence in the current academic year was 13.2%. Ever drink alcohol (AOR = 0.39; 95% CI: 0.18–0.86), have friends using substances (AOR = 0.26; 95% CI: 0.09–0.82), Grade level (AOR = 3.15; 95% CI: 1.32–7.48), witnessing parental conflict (AOR = 0.29; 95% CI: 0.17–0.52), ever discuss gender related issues (AOR = 2.23; 95% CI: 1.31–3.78) and living condition of students (AOR = 3.53; 95% CI: 1.55–8.07) were significantly associated with gender-based violence.Conclusion: The prevalence of sexual and gender-based-violence was high. This needs further intervention like awareness creation at school and community settings should be strengthened.

Abstract Background There is a high prevalence of gender-based violence (GBV) victimization among young Ethiopian women, including in universities, where female enrollment is low but growing. Understanding factors contributing to GBV in this context and students’ perspectives on gender, relationships, and interpersonal violence is essential to creating effective interventions to prevent GBV and support female students’ rights and wellbeing. Methods In-depth interviews (IDIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs) were held with male and female students (male IDI n = 36, female IDI n = 34, male FGD n = 18, female FGD n = 19) and faculty and staff (FGD n = 19) at two Ethiopian universities. Audio recordings were transcribed and translated into English. Transcripts were coded thematically to identify key factors contributing to GBV and provide narratives of students’ experiences. Results GBV against female students was a salient issue, including narrative accounts of harassment, intimidation, and physical and sexual violence on the university campuses and the towns in which they are located. Reported risks for GBV included receiving academic support from male peers, exercising agency in relationship decision-making, having a negative self-concept, belief in stereotypical gender expectations, and engaging in transactional sex and/or substance use. While students recognized these risk factors, they also suggested GBV may be the result of females’ “improper” behavior, attire, use of males for personal gain, or personal failure to prevent violence. Conclusions GBV is a serious issue in these two Ethiopian universities, creating a tenuous learning environment for female students. Programs are needed to address areas of vulnerability and negative attitudes toward female students in order to decrease female victimization.

“Women and girls face various types of violence (physical, economic and psychological), ranging from sexual comments and whistling, fondling, and raping, to the most extreme form: femicides,” as stated by the United Nations (UN) in a written communication. This worldwide organization called on governments, the private sector and society in general to eradicate the violence suffered by two out of three women; This particular problem in Mexico also shows alarming statistics which, in order to be visible nationwide, the States have issued violence alerts as a preventive measure.Education plays an important role in the transformation of this situation, rapists and rape victims are the result of educational processes that take place in classrooms, in the family and social contexts that have been organized about them, which obviously have not been completely efficient. In this regard, the intention is to organize clubs and work in favor of no gender-based violence since high school where standards and values ​​are established, promoting women respect and consideration, and the demands of this level of education are maintained
