Retention, stability and support are the most fundamental and basic principles on which the success of an entire denture relies on. However this factor is often compromised in cases of resorption. Residual ridge resorption is the reduction in size of the bony ridge under the mucoperiosteum. The rate of resorption in mandibular arch is at an increased rate as compared to the maxillary arch; but severely atrophic maxillae with large inter-ridge distance often pose a clinical challenge during fabrication of a successful maxillary complete denture because of the increased weight of the denture, retention is compromised. The present article describes a case of a completely edentulous patient who was successfully rehabilitated with a hollow denture where a simple and deviceful technique of fabricating a light-weight maxillary denture. Retention, stability and support are the basic principles on which the success of a complete denture relies on. Extreme resorption of the maxillary denture-bearing area leads to a narrower, constricted residual ridge with decreased supporting tissues and a larger restorative space between the maxillary and mandibular residual ridge. Rehabilitation in such cases may result in increased weight and height of the prosthesis further compromising its retention, support and stability. So, to prevent further resorption of ridges, the weight of the prosthesis needs to be reduced which can be achieved by making hollow prosthesis. This case report describes a novel technique of fabricating maxillary hollow maxillary complete denture.

ABSTRACT A clinical report of a patient having partially edentulous maxillary arch and dentulous mandibular arch has been presented. Patient came to the Department of Prosthodontics with the chief complaints of loosening of the prosthesis. The patient was rehabilitated with a maxillary complete overdenture and mandibular removable partial denture using the functionally generated path technique to achieve harmonious occlusion between the complete denture and the natural dentition. Rehabilitation of severely resorbed maxilla poses a clinical challenge for fabrication of a successful maxillary complete denture. The increased interridge distance often results in a heavy maxillary complete denture that further reduces the retention and stability of the denture. This case report describes the rehabilitation of an edentulous patient with resorbed maxillary and mandibular ridges and an increased interridge distance by hollow maxillary complete denture so as to reduce the weight of the denture which enhances the retention and stability of the denture. The mandibular complete denture is a challenge for the dentist. Unfavorable anatomical and physiological conditions such low bearing surface and a significant bone resorption, often compromise the prosthetic retention.The exploitation of root stumps is a reliable alternative that leads to a better prosthetic integration by increasing the retention, if the total prosthesis is connected to these root stumps via axial ball or bar attachments.In addition, this prosthetic alternative considerably improves the patient's comfort and masticatory coefficient and favors the preservation of the bone capital, provided that the requirements of root preservation as well as clinical and laboratory techniques are respected.We would like to illustrate this by presenting a clinical case in which we used the connecting bar in the mandibular arch.

ABSTRACT The facial disfigurement associated with the loss of teeth has greater psychological effect on the patient than the actual loss of teeth. Presented herein, is a novel, precise and accurate technique of performing border molding using transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS). The electronic stimulator is programed to deliver precisely controlled, uniform stimuli transmitted by transcutaneous electrical neural stimulation through fifth and seventh cranial nerves.   Plumping the cheeks by using cheek plumpers attached to the conventional complete denture using magnets was also done. This case report presents surgically assisted orthodontic treatment for an adult patient due to labial exostosis, prominent malar, and unesthetic chin. Her treatment was total arch distalization with modified C-palatal plate for maxillary arch and miniscrews for mandibular arch. In addition, she was treated with alveoloplasty, malarplasty, and genioplasty to improve the consistency of her profile. The total treatment duration was 28 months.

It is difficult to make impression and fabricate conventional dentures for patients with microstomia and flat ridge. This is a case report of 53-year-old female with limited mouth opening (25 mm) who had been wearing denture for 7 years and which was recently broken. Close mouth with suction impression method was used. Proper diagnosis and appropriate set of procedures and methods were needed for this patient. The conventional complete denture fitted with closed mouth method for this condition resulted in retentive and stable denture which was inserted and removed easily.

AbstractSeveral difficulties are encountered in providing a successful, single complete denture treatment. This case report deals with successful rehabilitation of completely resorbed mandibular ridge opposing a full complement of natural teeth prosthetically incorporating metal denture base in place of the conventional Poly Methyl Methacrylate material to combat the masticatory forces from natural dentition and improve the longevity of the prosthetic rehabilitation, at the same time improving the strength of the mandibular denture base.
