This critical review aims to make a comparison of online learning challenges between young learners and adult learners in ESL classes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has forced the closure of schools and institutions and the shift from face to face classes to online learning which forced the learners to adapt with the transformation. The challenges being faced by the young and adult learners were categorized into three themes, namely learning styles, psychological effect and low academic performance. A total of 40 articles were screened from the years 2020 and 2021. Out of those articles, 29 articles were recognized for the adult learners’ challenges and 11 articles for the young learners’ challenges. The findings suggested there were differences of challenges between the young and adult learners. It is important to recognize the challenges faced by these two levels of learners so that these challenges can be addressed accordingly in the future.

This chapter treats the judgment of poems: Philodemus required good form and content for a poem to be good, and bad form or bad content sufficed to make it a bad poem. The intermediate gradations are not clear. More interestingly, Philodemus states that a well-composed poem works some kind of effect on its audience, which are called “further thoughts:” a passage from his On Rhetoric III suggests that these further thoughts are an imaginative reverie provoked by the poem, though more details are not available. These further thoughts are the aspect of the poem that cause its pleasure. Finally, a few of Philodemus’ epigrams are examined for traces of this effect.

This book explains the poetics of Philodemus of Gadara, a first-century BCE Epicurean philosopher and poet, whose On Poems survives among the Herculaneum papyri. His main critical principle is that form and content are inseparable and mutually reinforcing: a change in one means a change in the other. The poet uses this marriage of form and content to create a hard-to-pin-down psychological effect in the audience. Poems produce “additional thoughts” in the audience, and these entertain them. It seems clear that Philodemus expected good poets to arrange form and content suggestively, so that the poems could exert a lasting pull on the minds of the audience. Additionally, the book summarizes the views of Philodemus’ opponents, the terminology of Hellenistic literary criticism, and the history of the Garden’s engagement with poetics. Epicurus did not write an On Poems but Metrodorus did, and this is probably Philodemus’ touchstone for his own views. The book concludes with an appendix of topics that Philodemus handles but which do not fit neatly into another chapter. I discuss his views on genre, mimesis, “appropriateness,” utility, and various technical terms.

Important role in the comfort of patients. Based on field observation, patients and visitors felt uncomfortable and bored while waiting in the queue to consult a doctor. Hospital visitors are not all ill patients but there are also those who only consult, escort, or visit. In this case, the beauty and comfort in the waiting area, which is a public and intermediary area, is expected to have a psychological effect that can distract visitors from a terrifying impression, provide comfortability while waiting and reduce patient tension before being examined. This study examines the influence of interior on the comfort of patients in the waiting room with case studies at Abby Hospital, Bunda Women and Children Hospital, and PMI Hospital. This study uses a qualitative method with a correlation method approach. Research variables include (1) circulation, (2) cleanliness, (3) noise, (4) lighting, (5) beauty, (6) aromas/odors. The findings show that at Bunda Women and Children Hospital, 32% of the respondents felt uncomfortable with the layout of the room (facilities/furniture), 64% of respondents felt comfortable, 4% of respondents felt very comfortable. While at PMI Hospital, 36% of respondents felt uncomfortable with the layout of the room (facilities/furniture), 56% of respondents felt comfortable, 4% of respondents felt very comfortable. Finally, at Abby Hospital, 0% of respondents felt uncomfortable with the layout of the room (facilities/furniture), 68% of respondents felt comfortable, 32% of respondents felt very comfortable. In this study, conclusions were drawn for basic guidelines for hospital comfort in terms of advantages and disadvantages.

Recently, public interest in accidents involving children has been increasing owing to a decrease in birth rate in Korea. Specifically, interest in traffic safety in school zones has been increasing because of the revision of the Minsik Act. However, there is a lack of studies and evidence on the effect of the actual designation of a school zone on traffic accidents involving children and awareness of drivers. In this study, we examined the psychological effect of increasing awareness about traffic regulations on drivers within a school zone via an awareness survey of a school zone for drivers in Changwon. Additionally, based on this survey, the characteristics that affect a driver's sense of compliance with respect to traffic rules in a school zone were analyzed. Finally, a method was presented for enhancing traffic safety for children in a school zone.

Survivors of COVID-19 are vulnerable to trauma as a result of experiencing social isolation during treatment, with fear and loneliness that can have long-term impacts on mental health. In this review, some related literature will be identified and evaluated, using a qualitative-based literature review to research yoga as an alternative treatment to reduce PTSD symptoms, alleviate, or even cure PTSD in COVID-19 survivors. Articles screening from several journals was carried out by tracing PubMed’s journal publication database throughout the last five years and also categorizing two keywords as a reference for reviewing articles. The result of this literature review confirms that COVID-19 has a psychological effect on survivors, especially concerning PTSD when viewed from the largest indication. In addition, based on the results of ongoing research, yoga has shown a significant and promising impact in reducing PTSD symptoms. From this, it can be concluded that although there has been no research that directly examines the causality of the related review, yoga can be an alternative treatment to minimize symptoms and relieve PTSD in COVID-19 survivors. Based on the results of the review, there are many aspects that need to be investigated further, such as the influence of frequency and duration of yoga. More literature review and further research are essential for this topic, especially testing yoga programs as an intervention for COVID-19 survivors to determine its effectiveness and whether it can be implemented as a whole in the society, especially those who are COVID-19 survivors.
