The aim of this study was to illuminate the meaning of caring relationship directed to the elderly as experienced by district nurses. Twelve district nurses were interviewed in the form of a dialogue. The interviews were audiotaped and transcribed. The text was analyzed using a phenomenological-hermeneutic approach inspired by Paul Ricoeur who describes the interpretation of a text as a dialectical movement between understanding and explanation. The interpretation of the text reveals that the meaning of caring relationship is friendship and caring communion that is founded in the local community.

The purpose of this article is to contextualize the various inspirational stories of the Prophet Muhammad summarized in the Sirah Nabawiyah. The exploration of inspired stories will place more emphasis on the period before prophetic revelation, so as to minimize the reasons for mankind's inability to make Muhammad a role model and an inspirational figure. The contextualization of thought in sirah nabawiyah was carried out using the hermeneutic approach as a method in the tradition of Paul Ricoeur's thought. Hermeneutics in the Paul Ricoeur tradition tries to go beyond modern interpretation which seeks to find an understanding of the meaning between the interpreter and the writer. Therefore, it is possible to produce new meanings of sirah nabawiyah accompanied by a subjective reflection process that is linked to the contextual background. This article generates contextualization and new meanings of the inspirational story of the prophet Muhammad in Sirah Nabawiyah to become eighteen values of character education based on national culture. These character values will be embedded in every level of Indonesian national education.

Good nursing is more than exercising a specific set of skills. It involves the personal identity of the nurse. The aim of this article is to answer two questions: (1) what kind of person should the hospice nurse be? and (2) how should the hospice nurse engage in caring conversations? To answer these questions we analyse a nurse’s story that is intended to be a profile of an exemplary hospice nurse. This story was constructed from an analysis of five semistructured interviews with hospice nurses, based on the ‘ethics of the caring conversation’, which is inspired by the ethical perspective of Paul Ricoeur. The research questions concentrate on the norms of respect, responsibility and reciprocity, which are integral parts of the ‘ethics of the caring conversation’.
