Kebakaran hutan dan lahan di Indonesia telah menyebabkan kerugian yang luar biasa, baik dari aspek ekologi, ekonomi dan sosial budaya. Penelitian ini menggali kecendrungan kebakaran hutan dan lahan dengan pendekatan spasial dan penyebab kebakaran hutan dan secara empiris serta alternatif pengendaliannya. Metode yang digunakan perangkat lunak SIG, yaitu ArcGIS for Desktop 10.3.1 yang disediakan oleh Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), wawancara mendalam dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hotspot berkorelasi positif, semakin dekat dengan jaringan jalan, intensitas atau jumlah kejadian kebakaran akan semakin besar, dan kecendrungan kebakaran hutan dan lahan berbentuk acak dari waktu ke waktu yang disebabkan oleh adanya pembukaan lahan-lahan baru untuk kepentingan perladangan. Penyebab kebakaran hutan dan lahan adalah aktivitas perladangan, akses jalan dan iklim. Alternatif Pengendalian Kebakaran Hutan berbasis Kemitraan, yaitu membangun kerjasama dengan kelompok masyarakat peladang sistem “Pembukaan Ladang Terkendali”, melibatkan parapihak yakni aparat desa, aparat kecamatan dan aparat kepolisian setempat serta KPHP.Kata kunci: kebakaran; hutan dan lahan; kemitraanForest and land fires in Indonesia have caused tremendous losses, both from the ecological, economic and socio-cultural aspects. This study explores the trend of forest and land fires with spatial approaches and causes of forest fires through empiricall method as well as alternative controls. The method used GIS software, ArcGIS for Desktop 10.3.1 provided by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), in-depth interviews and observation. The results show that the hotspots are positively correlated, the closer to the road network, the greater the intensity or number of fires, and the tendency of forest fires and randomly shaped land from time to time due to the opening of new lands for shifting cultivation. Causes of forest and land fires are the activities of cultivation, road access and climate. Alternative Forest Fire Control based on Partnership, which is to build cooperation with community group farmer system “Pembukaan Lahan Terkendali”, involving stakeholders that is village apparatus, subdistrict apparatus and local police apparatus and KPHP.

Everyone involved in geospatial information systems has heard of Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri)company. Most people have tried ArcGIS software at least for one time. Esri has been the pioneer in this industry for a long time; it also defines the future of geospatial trends. In this chapter, the author adopts a neutral position to discuss the relation of Esri and open-source community. They cover almost every aspect where Esri and open source co-occur. Even the latest achievement of Esri, which is R-bridge, is discussed here. Going into the details of everything is not the goal of the chapter; however, a minimum description is provided for each section. Proper references are given to the reader for further study.

This study is to determine the learning outcomes programs of remote sensing and geographic information systems, and their role in job opportunity and work markets in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, globally (Canada), The study illustrated the top five skills which required for success in professional life majoring in geographic information systems and mentioned by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), USA. The study deal with descriptive, analytical and comparative approaches. The study recommended the top five skills that required succeeding in Remote sensing and GIS" career, which recommended by Environmental Systems Research Institute, as the main scale to determine learning outcomes of remote sensing and geographic information system in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Arab world and then to identify the activities, skills and courses (i.e., the number of theoretical and practical hours, teaching methods, and laboratories ...), which are taught in these programs.

Forest fire spread out in an area having combustible material in the summer season with high temperature. It burns the area and looks like a misery. Forest fire is one of the factors that severely affects the forest biodiversity. Burning actions in a forest affects not only flora and fauna but also soil properties changed due to the forest fire. In summer season on sloppy topography forest fire originates in tropical forests. While in coniferous forests, forest fire outbreaks during the resin extraction activities. More than 350 million hectares (ha) was estimated to be affected by vegetation fires globally. In India about 55% of forest area is prone to the fire. Fires can be natural or man- made, but manmade fire affects mostly. Several forest types and areas are more susceptible to forest fires because of suitable weather, topography and inflammable material. Forest fires adversely affect the soil, water, flora and fauna and disrupt the ecological functions. The new advances in fire control are remote sensing and GIS where real time information can be gathered about the fire break and immediate follow can be done. The chemicals (as borate, ammonium sulfate and ammonium biphosphate) are used for fire control and various other types of fire retardants are used to keep the fire under control. Forest fire changes the composition of vegetation, extinction of species, development of the various adaptations in unwanted plants. Nutrient cycle and soils are affected. Frequent forest fire events cause global warming. Forest fire needed to be controlled at initial stage and the large fires should not be allowed to occur, the modern techniques of monitoring, detection and control must be used for avoiding the large fires happenings.

For millenia, fire and insects have played an important role in forested land evolution. Understanding the roles they play can be important in helping us not only to control them, but to use them as an ecological tool. Also, we notice some important interactions between these two agents. As insects affect fire, fire may control insect pests. Controlled burning may provide excellent results, but allows a very slight margin for possible errors. Fire use as an insect mangement tool, requires a very precise and wide knowledge of weather conditions, fire intensity, insect's life cycle, available fuels, and type of ecosystem involved.After a long run of experiences and research, we notice that fire has been and will always be an important factor in equilibrium of some ecosystems. Since wild fire prevention campaigns and the emergence of insecticides, some forests have become excessively vulnerable to insect pests. Proper knowledge, and use of fire control, rather than immediate suppression of forest fires, would allow us to conserve various ecosystems in a healthy balance.
