This chapter discusses the one-to-one interactions between participants in the video performance In[bodi]mental. It presents personal accounts of users' body swapping experiences through real-time Head Mounted Display systems. These inter-corporeal encounters are articulated through the lens of psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan and his work on the “Mirror Stage” (1977), phenomenologist Maurice Merleau-Ponty (1968) and his writings on the Chiasm, and anthropologist Rane Willerslev's (2007) research on mimesis. The study of these positions provides new insights into the blurred relationship between the corporeal Self and the digital Other. The way the material body is stretched across these divisions highlights the way digital media is the catalyst in this in[bodied] experience of be[ing] in the world. The purpose of this chapter is to challenge the relationship between the body and video performance to appreciate the impact digital media has on one's perception of a single bounded self and how two selves become an inter-corporeal experience shared through the technology.

In this chapter, the media artist Anna Vasof discusses her animation project Non-Stop Stop-Motion, situated at the intersection between video, performance, the fine arts and photography. Non-Stop Stop-Motion is an ongoing practice-based artistic research project, which investigates where we can find the essence of cinematic illusion when we look into everyday life and what happens when we use everyday situations, objects, spaces and actions as cinematographic mechanisms. This question leads to multiple observations of everyday life and experimentation therein.

As e-learning gains popularity, ways are being studied to apply e-learning to the teaching of musical performance skills. These studies require learners to submit multimedia records of their learning status to instructors. This paper discusses how learners can enhance performance skills effectively from an “awareness” of performance status. We have used a multimediabased learning approach, which includes a mechanism to enhance awareness of current strengths and weaknesses. We have developed three models that are expected to be useful for learners in acquiring performance skills, and have analyzed differences in the level of skills achieved using the three models. This paper also shows that a learners can enhance their awareness of how to improve skills by submitting video performance records and by closely comparing them to the model performance.
