The nature of their work requires the healthcare professionals to work in shifts, work overtime, report to duty at odd hours, take care of people who are sick and are sometimes terminally ill. Apart from draining them of physical energy, being in contact with such people also has a bearing on their psychological health. Striking a balance between life and work is a daunting task for the healthcare professionals. This study aimed at identifying the determinants of work life balance among Health care professionals, because they play a critical role in determining the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of health care systems. Data was collected from Healthcare Professionals like Physicians, Nurses, Clinical Support Staff and Administrative staff from both the Public and Private Hospitals in Nagpur District using a structured questionnaire. Factor Analysis revealed five factors namely Demographic Factors, Supportive Work Culture, Working Conditions, Work Provisions and Travelling distance from work that significantly affect the Work Life Balance of Healthcare Professionals. These findings will help the Healthcare Organizations to focus on Organizational interventions for helping their employees achieve a balance between the domains of work and life.

Purpose This study aims to examine the linkage between work–life balance (WLB) and organizational commitment (OC) among women employees in the healthcare sector. Design/methodology/approach Using a quantitative methodology, this paper drew upon samples of 580 health-care sector employees working in the health-care sector of Jammu and Kashmir in India. A structured questionnaire was administered to gather the required information. Data were analyzed using SMART PLS and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, in which descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance and structural equation modeling were conducted to achieve the objectives of the study. Findings Findings indicated a significant positive relationship between WLB and OC. Further component-wise analysis revealed a positive relationship between the WLB and affective and normative commitment. However, WLB demonstrated a negative association with continuance commitment. Originality/value The study also brought forth the causes and potential consequences of the work–life imbalance and stressed upon the role of organizational policies in managing the relationship between work and non-work domains and subsequently the development of OC among employees.

The aim of this study is to investigate the association among work-life balance, intrinsic motivation, subjective well-being and job satisfaction among the healthcare professionals of Pakistan. Utilizing a sample of 301 Health Care Professionals, the authors tested the proposed relationships. Findings were constant with the hypothesized theoretical scheme, and mediated association between work-life balance and subjective well-being through job satisfaction was stronger when intrinsic motivation was low rather than high. Based on the findings, we suggest that the association between work-life balance and subjective well-being in Health Care Professionals is more complicated than was previously believed—thus yielding a pattern of moderated mediation. In brief, it was found that work-life balance enhances subjective well-being through job satisfaction when intrinsic motivation is low. We also discuss the theoretical contributions and practical implications of the research and directions for future studies.

Topics focus on preparation, networking, job seeking, work–life balance, and career outlook across several sectors, including academia, health care, government, and the nonprofit arena.


This paper evaluates the impact of compensation, work life balance and work environment towards organization commitment of nurses who belong to less attended medium size health care units in and around Chennai City in India. It also deals with the impact of organization commitment towards retention of nurses. From the findings it is evident that the commitment of nurses in the hospital increases their likelihood of continuation. Also it reveals that compensation is the predominant factor followed by work life balance and work environment in enhancing organization commitment.

Purpose: Healthcare employees frequently put their personal needs aside for their professions, making it a challenge to maintain a healthy Work-Life Balance (WLB), particularly for women. WLB is a delicate balancing act between the importance and priorities of one's personal and professional paths, which are closely interwoven in every aspect. The Healthcare sector is rapidly expanding with female doctors and nurses accounting for a large portion of the workforce. Their job entails a variety of issues which include night shifts, prolonged shifts, fewer breaks, and high work pressure. When there is a positive organizational culture and supportive environment at work and home, female medical professionals will be able to offer excellent medical care, be more efficient, and enhance the quality of patient care. Hence it is necessary to identify various factors affecting the personal and professional life of female medical professionals and discuss ways to improve their WLB. Methodology: A systematic review was carried out on the existing literature of WLB of Female Doctors and Nurses using the keywords Work-Life Balance, Hospital, Female Doctors, Female Nurses in three search engines: PubMed, Google Scholars, and Academia. The eligible articles were screened using exclusion criteria before being analyzed for the conceptual framework of the study. Findings/Result: The review identified personal and professional factors affecting the WLB of Female Doctors and Nurses. The study also discovered various research gaps in the domain of WLB and offered several recommendations to help healthcare personnel improve their WLB. Originality/Value: The systematic research yielded a clear picture of the WLB in the healthcare industry. The study also discovered a link between female healthcare workers' WLB and personal and professional issues, as well as various ways for enhancing their WLB. Implementing these methods in the healthcare industry can help medical practitioners become more efficient and successful, allowing them to provide the highest suitable care to their patients. Purpose Clinical professionals working with psychologically traumatised children in the care system can experience potential challenges maintaining their own positive psychological health, and when repeatedly being exposed to the traumatic histories of those in their care. The purpose of this paper is to increase the understanding of vicarious trauma and provide a guide for focussing on future research. Design/methodology/approach This is a systematic literature review, considering 13 articles that met the criteria and identified five main themes linked to secondary traumatic stress/vicarious trauma in staff. Findings Five main themes were noted. These are: lack of organisational support; lack of health work-life balance; lack of appropriate training; failure to use self-care techniques; and staff failure to share when they are experiencing symptoms. Practical implications Various implications are noted from this review. These include: the importance of education and support for staff, to be mindful that newer staff may be considered an “at risk” group for the negative impact of such trauma, and to encourage staff in achieving an effective work-life balance. Originality/value This is a focussed systematic review on secondary and vicarious trauma on staff working with children exposed to psychological trauma, such as sexual and physical abuse.
