Waqf is a voluntary charity that cannot be disposed of and the ownership cannot be transferred once it is declared as waqf assets. Waqf institutions play an important role in helping the development of Muslims ummah through wealth distribution. State Islamic Religious Councils (SIRCs) in Malaysia are the sole trustee that manage and develop waqf assets. Based on selected input and output, the intermediary approach assumes that cash waqf received as output while total expenditure of SIRCs as input. Under this approach SIRCs act as intermediary between waqif (giver) and beneficiaries. Thus, this paper attempts to analyze the efficiency of waqf institutions in Malaysia by using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method under output-orientation using Variable Return to Scale (VRS) assumptions. Four SIRCs were selected as decision making units (DMU) for the period of 2011 to 2015. The result indicates that changes in average technical efficiency for every year is contributed by both pure technical and scale. However, inefficiency of Malaysian waqf institutions is mostly contributed by pure technical efficiency aspects rather than scale. 2012 showed the highest average technical efficiency with 73.9% as most of the institutions operated in optimum level of input to produce output. Thus, the result suggests that both technical and scale efficiency should be improved to achieve the most efficient and productive level of performance in order to fulfill objectives of the institutions as an intermediary between waqif and beneficiaries.

Pineapple chips is a processed product made of pineapple produced in Kampar Regency. Efficient pineapple chips processing will produce both an added value and high profit. The purpose of this research was to determine the level of relative efficiency of pineapple chips business in Kampar Regency in Riau Province. The level of efficiency achieved is a reflection of the quality of good performance. This research used Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method to measure the level of efficiency. An analysis using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method with Constant Return to Scale (CRS) assumption through input oriented approach was done to understand the levels of the pineapple chips producers relative efficiency. The research result showed that Most of the pineapple chips producers in Kampar Regency had not been efficient in relative terms, in which from the total of 21 pineapple chips producers, 8 producers were efficient (38,10%) and 13 producers had not been efficient (61,90%). The efficient producers should be a reference for inefficient producer in using inputs. By referring to the efficient producers, it is expected that the inefficient producers could use the input optimally so that the processing pineapple chips business could reach an efficient condition.

Abstract   This paper analyzes the efficiency of Badan Aml Zakat Nasional (BAZNAS) and Dompet Dhuafa from 2002 to 2018. Based on selected input and output, the intermediary approach assumes that BAZNAS and Dompet Dhuafa act as a link between muzakki (giver) and beneficiaries. Furthermore, BAZNAS and Dompet Dhuafa were selected as decision-making units (DMU) from 2002 to 2018, and their efficiency was measured using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method under output-orientation with Constant Return to Sclae (CRS) and Variable Return to Scale (VRS) assumptions. The results showed both BAZNAS and Dompet Dhuafa raise the optimum efficiency in the years before 2007. Meanwhile, their inefficiency was mostly due to lack of input such as higher personalia (amil/volunteers) expenses. Therefore, these findings suggests that both technical and scale efficiency should be improved by adjusting the input. This is to achieve the most efficient and productive level of performance in order to fulfill the institutions' objectives as an intermediary between muzakki and the beneficiaries. This paper is among the pioneers that analyzed the efficiency of zakat institutions from their initial establishment to present. Also, existing papers examined data spanning 5 years or less. Hence, long duration of data analysis provides a comprehensive evaluation of fluctuations in the zakat institutions efficiency and their supporting or inhibiting factors.

Performance analysis in any industry plays a vital role in understanding the current scenario and thereby improving the overall efficiency. Using a sample of 20 hospitals randomly selected in Kerala, performance measures of quality were examined as they related to technical efficiency. Efficiency scores for the study hospitals were computed using data envelopment analysis (DEA). The study found that the technically efficient hospitals were performing well as far as quality measures were concerned. DEA can be used to benchmark both dimensions of hospital performance, that is, technical efficiency and quality. The variables selected for the study were divided under input and output measures. Using the DEA model, the factors considered were weighed and analysis was done. The input variables under study are bed number, trained medical staff and services offered. The output variables considered were outpatient rate, mortality rate and number of surgical operations in a month. Through the study, performance of each hospital is measured, and it aims to find out a relation between the input and output variables.

Abstract The energy efficiency monitoring methods in industry are based on statistical modeling of energy consumption. In the present paper, the widely used method of energy efficiency monitoring “Monitoring and Targeting systems” has been considered, highlighting one of the most important issues — selection of the proper mathematical model of energy consumption. The paper gives a list of different models that can be applied in the corresponding systems. The numbers of criteria that estimate certain characteristics of the mathematical model are represented. The traditional criteria of model adequacy and the “additional” criteria, which allow estimating the model characteristics more precisely, are proposed for choosing the mathematical model of energy consumption in “Monitoring and Targeting systems”. In order to provide the comparison of different models by several criteria simultaneously, an approach based on Data Envelopment Analysis is proposed. Such approach allows providing a more accurate and reliable energy efficiency monitoring.

INTRODUCTION: Efficiency is one of the basic measures of organizational performance, and in general, refers to the degree or quality of the achievement of the desired goals. This study aimed to investigate the efficiency of Red Crescent population branches in Gilan province and rank them based on the data envelopment analysis model. METHODS: This research was applied in terms of purpose and documentary in terms of implementation. For the purposes of the study, 16 branches of the Red Crescent Society in Gilan province were analyzed with GAMS software (version 24) in 2018. In this research, the input-oriented Banker, Charnes, and Cooper model was used as one of the basic models of data envelopment analysis to measure the relative efficiency of 16 branches of the Red Crescent Society in Gilan province. Afterward, the Anderson-Peterson super-efficiency model was used to rank the efficient units. FINDINGS: Based on the findings, six branches, namely Astara, Rasht, Bandar Anzali, Tallish, Lahijan, and Sowme’eh Sara, had an efficiency score of one. In other words, they were recognized as efficient branches and could provide solutions and models as reference branches for inefficient branches to help them reach the efficiency limit. Afterward, the Anderson-Peterson super-efficiency model was used to rank the efficient units. According to this model, the efficiency scores of the studied units were more than one and the Rasht branch had the highest efficiency. CONCLUSION: The results provide researchers as well as branch managers and staff with suggestions that can help them make better decisions. An important point to keep in mind is that in order to increase the efficiency of a branch, it is necessary to reduce input costs and increase outputs based on reference branches. Due to the fact that this research uses an input-oriented approach, its purpose is to increase the indicators that enhance the efficiency of branches.

One of the key issues of the current courier services in Malaysia is the efficiency of the courier itself. In today's competition, many factors have recognized that influence the efficiency of courier services. Hence, numbers of analytical models and formu las were introduced to measure the efficiency of courier service. This paper presents a practical approach for identifying the level of customers’ satisfaction towards courier service companies using Data Envelopment Analysis and four courier services whic h were Poslaju, City - Link Express , J&T Expres s, and GD Express in Hulu Terengganu were selected. Data Envelopment Analysis is chosen in this study because it can deal with complex connections between several inputs and outputs on performance evaluation iss ues. The input criteria considered in this study are assurance, empathy, reliability, responsiveness, tangibility, and price. Meanwhile, customer satisfaction is chosen as the output criteria. The results showed that Poslaju is ranked as the most efficient company, followed by City - Link Express in second and J&T Express as the third. The least efficiency score obtained makes GD Express as the last ranked courier service among these four courier services. Furthermore, the results are mainly influenced by the input criteria of assurance, empathy, and tangibility. This study helps the customer to select the most efficient courier service that can save their time, money, and energy. Finally, this study also can guide courier services to decide on which criteria are effective to be improved to enhance their business performance.
