Role of women in development has been well-known. Women roles in rural area can be identified from their involvement in rural industries either agricultural home industries or other small-scale industries processing material taken from natural resources. One of such natural resource materials is sea water to be further processed as salts. Most of women in Medang Hamlet, Village of Sekotong Barat, Nusa Tenggara Barat Province work as salt makers. Instead of drying salty water by using sunshine, the salt farmers in Medang Hamlet use wood in heating the salt water. The study finds that the income earned from this activity is considerably low. Since there is no other source of income alternative for the women in this hamlet, making salt becomes the only job that can be done. The consequence is that the villagers in this area are still live under poverty line.

In small-scale industries, under extreme working conditions, personnel are frequently involved in lifting and carrying raw materials, which is hazardous at times. Robot, a machine with intelligence can perform the same task with the help of control instructions fed by computer or remote control. Technological development in the area of robotics made it possible to design robotic arm with the same degree of precision as a replacement to the human intervention. This will introduce automation in small-scale industries, which saves time, reduces human effort and expenditure in production. Further, this will be a starting point for complete automation of entire process, which can be expensive and complicated. NI LabVIEW along with NI-myRIO can provide a better solution in designing a more precise and accurate robot in a very low cost, which is affordable by small-scale industries. NI-myRIO is used to generate and acquire signals for controlling and processing. Further it has an inbuilt processor and FPGA which has many reconfigurable analogue and digital features.

The small-scale fabrication industry is of great importance to developing an economy. In the last two decades governments and private agencies in Nigeria have demonstrated great concerns in developing the Small Scale Industries through policy formulation and support for agencies created with a view to developing the industry. But such concerns have not yielded any good results. There are therefore some salient problems bedeviling this sector. The work presented in this paper is a study of the constraints to the growth of the small scale fabrication industry in Nigeria using Benin metropolis as a case study. Structured questionnaires were used to collect primary data and interviews were also conducted. The data collected were then analyzed and the constraints to the growth of the industry were identified. The results obtained from the study showed that non awareness of government policies; inadequate technology, inadequate educational training and lack of finance are the major constraints to the development of the small scale design and fabrication industry in Nigeria. Recommendations are made for overcoming these constraints.

This study aims to reveal the performance and various obstacles faced by small-scale agricultural industries in Southeast Sulawesi. Research, utilizing secondary data published by various government agencies, and primary data on small-scale agricultural industries located in 12 districts in Southeast Sulawesi in 2018. The results showed that small-scale agricultural industries employ 42.01% of the workforce in the sector industry, as well as the investment value which covers 59.73% of industrial sector investment in Southeast Sulawesi, but the value of agricultural products industry products only covers 26.57% of the total value of industrial products in Southeast Sulawesi. This condition is largely caused by small-scale agricultural industries with legal entities that are relatively small, only around 30.48 percent of the total small-scale industries in Southeast Sulawesi. This condition indicates that most small-scale agricultural industries have not experienced and become an obstacle in conducting partnerships with medium and large industries. Furthermore, Competition to obtain raw materials with larger industries in Java also makes it difficult for many local furniture industries to obtain better quality raw materials. Knowledge and skill of the workforce are relatively low compared to advance or big industries. These factors influence the ability to scale agricultural industries to access capital, to create good product design, manage their business as well as expand markets. That is generally the circle of problems that surround small and medium industries in Indonesia. Therefore, in the context of developing small and medium industries, the strategies used cannot be overcome by problems but all comprehensively.
