The small-scale fabrication industry is of great importance to developing an economy. In the last two decades governments and private agencies in Nigeria have demonstrated great concerns in developing the Small Scale Industries through policy formulation and support for agencies created with a view to developing the industry. But such concerns have not yielded any good results. There are therefore some salient problems bedeviling this sector. The work presented in this paper is a study of the constraints to the growth of the small scale fabrication industry in Nigeria using Benin metropolis as a case study. Structured questionnaires were used to collect primary data and interviews were also conducted. The data collected were then analyzed and the constraints to the growth of the industry were identified. The results obtained from the study showed that non awareness of government policies; inadequate technology, inadequate educational training and lack of finance are the major constraints to the development of the small scale design and fabrication industry in Nigeria. Recommendations are made for overcoming these constraints.

Formulation and estimation of a correctly specified abatement cost function would be central to policy formulation regarding imposing taxes or user-fees as well as of sharing social cost in the presence of environmental pollution. Often in research, the output of an abatement activity for water pollution appears to us not to have been clearly specified. This activity is very distinct from whatever is the actual product of the plant. We propose in this paper that the output is only and exclusively the reduction in the level of the pollutant in the outflow from the plant and illustrate this with primary data for small-scale factories in Nandesari Industrial Estate in Gujarat, India. The cost function estimates provide evidence of significant scale economies and high marginal abatement cost in wastewater treatment by small-scale factories.

Abstract Individual engineering design projects face different challenges depending on their scale. Instead of dealing with problems of complex multidisciplinary systems, small scale design must overcome issues of limited resources. The philosophy of agile software development has been highly successful in addressing similar issues in the software engineering realm over the past two decades. Through the design and prototyping of a low-budget desktop stereolithography printer, the application of agile principles to engineering design process is explored. The printer’s design is discussed in detail to provide examples of successes and failures when these agile principles are put into practice. The paper concludes with a discussion of how agile principles could be leveraged in engineering design. The approach taken in this paper is more of a longitudinal study of a single design process over a twelve-month period as opposed to rigorous experiments that engage multiple users in short design scenarios. Nonetheless, this case study demonstrates how the application of agile principles can inform, improve, and complement traditional engineering design processes.

The aim of this research is to investigate role of Microfinance in Poverty alleviation. Primary data was used in this research and was collected through personally administered questionnaires from 150 respondents. Results showed that most of the respondents were in favor of the Khud Kafalat scheme because it helped them in increasing their living standards and standard of education of their children due to establishing small scale businesses or expanding existing businesses. Moreover, Khud Kafalat Scheme has a very important role in Poverty alleviation and increased their gross monthly income. Furthermore, their satisfaction can also be depicted from the fact that although they observed no change in their employees’ condition but on individual level, most of them, were still in favor of applying again for the loan, if needed, in the future.

This study aims to reveal the performance and various obstacles faced by small-scale agricultural industries in Southeast Sulawesi. Research, utilizing secondary data published by various government agencies, and primary data on small-scale agricultural industries located in 12 districts in Southeast Sulawesi in 2018. The results showed that small-scale agricultural industries employ 42.01% of the workforce in the sector industry, as well as the investment value which covers 59.73% of industrial sector investment in Southeast Sulawesi, but the value of agricultural products industry products only covers 26.57% of the total value of industrial products in Southeast Sulawesi. This condition is largely caused by small-scale agricultural industries with legal entities that are relatively small, only around 30.48 percent of the total small-scale industries in Southeast Sulawesi. This condition indicates that most small-scale agricultural industries have not experienced and become an obstacle in conducting partnerships with medium and large industries. Furthermore, Competition to obtain raw materials with larger industries in Java also makes it difficult for many local furniture industries to obtain better quality raw materials. Knowledge and skill of the workforce are relatively low compared to advance or big industries. These factors influence the ability to scale agricultural industries to access capital, to create good product design, manage their business as well as expand markets. That is generally the circle of problems that surround small and medium industries in Indonesia. Therefore, in the context of developing small and medium industries, the strategies used cannot be overcome by problems but all comprehensively.

The paper flashes on the eminent role that commitment portrays in business enthusiasm. The research divulges empirical results on the foundation of data collected from 44 small scale industries functioning in District Udhampur of J&K State. The primary data so collected were subjected to factor analysis in order to reduce the unwanted statements. The KMO and Cronbach Alpha values revealed significance of the construct. The results of CFA confirmed all the statements so obtained from EFA. The results of hierarchical linear regression revealed that commitment among business partners ensures timely performance of business activities, commitment paves way for business success and commitment leads to development of trust & cooperation among business parties. The upcoming monsoon season might bring a whole new set of problems as the particular problem could again play a critical role in damaging profits.
