This research involves the preparation of new ligands 1,1,2,2- tetrakis (sodium acetate thio)ethylene(L1) and 1,1,2- tris(sodiumacetatethio) ethylene(L2), through the reaction of disodium thioglycolate) with tetra chloro ethylene or tri chloro ethylene in (1:4) or (1:3) moler ratio . Homodinucliar complexes of general formlu [M2(L1)] and [M2(L2)ClH2O] , when M= Co(II), Ni(II), Cu (II) and Zn(II) also mono nuclear complexes of general formula [M(L2)] . The prepared complexes were characterized using spectral method (UV/Visible/ IR) , metal content analysis , magnetic and atomic measurements . The spectral and magnetic measurement indicats that some complexes have tetrahedral or square planar complexes environtment .

A series of new di-, tri-, and tetranuclear Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes of three new diSchiff base ligands were synthesized by two different methods. The first method involved the synthesis of the three ligands from condensation reaction of 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (L′H2) with ethylenediamine (en), o-phenylenediamine (o-PD), or 4,5-dimethyl-1,2-phenylendiamine (DMPD) in a mole ratio of 2 : 1 followed by the reaction of the resulting Schiff bases ligands with Cu(II) or Co(II) ions in the presence of 2,2′-bipyridyl (L) to form the di- and trinuclear metal complexes. The second method involved the condensation of the copper complexLCu(II)L′(L = 2,2′-bipyridyl, L′ = 4-formylbenzene-1,2-bis(olate)) with en, o-PD, or DMPD in a mole ratio of 2 : 1, respectively, followed by reaction with CuCl2or Cu(ClO4)2to form di-, tri-, and tetranuclear copper (II) complexes, respectively. The structures of the ligands and metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, NMR, and FTIR spectra. The geometries of metal complexes were suggested according to elemental analysis, electronic spectra, thermal analyses, atomic absorption, and magnetic moments and conductivity measurements.

Monomeric five coordinated adducts of bis(O-ethyldithiocarbonato)copper(II) of general formula [Cu(C2H5OCS2)2(L)], [L = 2-, 3-, 4-methylpyridines and 2-, 3-, 4-ethylpyridines] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, i.r. and electronic spectroscopy, magnetic and conductivity measurements. Analytical results show that the adducts have 1 : 1 stoichiometry. The adducts were found to be paramagnetic and their magnetic moments at room temperature lie within the 1.81–1.94 B.M. range and this indicates the presence of one unpaired electron. All the adducts have distorted square pyramidal geometry.

Synthesis and characterization of 2-(hydroxyimino)-1-(phenyl propylidene) thiocarbonohydrazide (called ‘HPTCHOPD’) was studied. The synthesized compound having the molecular formula C10H13N5OS, where in isonitrosopropiophenone is reacted with thiocarbonohydrazide in presence of sodium acetate in ethanol-water mixture. The yield which is comprises effecting the reaction in the presence of sodium acetate. Also the present work report a process for producing metal complexes having the formula ML2and (ML)2Cl, wherein M is the divalent metal cation, like cobalt (Co+2), nickel (Ni+2) and copper (Cu+2). The compound HPTCHOPD is admixed with a basic divalent compound that is halide, mainly chloride of Co+2, Ni+2and Cu+2in presence of methanol-water mixture. The metal complexes so produced are characterized on the basis of spectral, elemental and magnetic analysis; reveal interesting geometries and bonding features. The data suggested square planar geometry for Co+2complex, a distorted tetrahedral/square planar-octahedral geometry for Ni+2complex and a bridged structure for Cu+2complex.

Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) with 3-salicylidenehydrazono-2-indolinone were prepared. Their structure was established to be [MLCl].Cl by using elemental analysis and molar conductivity, as well as AA, FTIR, UV/VIS and 1H-NMR spectroscopic methods. The spectral studies indicated a square-planar geometry for the Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes and a tetrahedral one for the Co(II) and Zn(II) complexes. The complexes were tested for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus D, Proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli, Bacillus anthracis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans.

New metal complexes of some transition metal ions Co(II), Cu(II) , Cd(II) and Zn(II) were prepared by their reaction with previously prepared ligands HLI= (P-methyl anilino) phenyl acetonitrile and HLII = (P-methyl anilino) –P– chloro phenyl acetonitrile . The two ligands were prepared by Strecker’s procedure which includ the reaction of p- toluidine with benzaldehyde and P- chlorobenzaldehyde respectively. Structures were proposed depending on atomic absorption , i.r. and u.v.visible spectra in addition to magnetic susceptibility and electrical conductivity measurements.
