In this mixed methods study the authors describe the institution-level perceptions of stakeholders transitioning to a new learning management system (LMS). We address issues related to change, the institution’s administration of the transition process, problems encountered, and realized learning via online survey data collection, analysis, and interpretation. We further detail results of a faculty survey, which sought to illuminate the LMS transition experience. The summation includes suggestions for institutions as they prepare for, and move through, foreseeable LMS change and transition.

Purpose – Observes how the introduction of a new learning-management system has made training easier, cheaper and more effective at international freight-forwarder JAS. Design/methodology/approach – Examines the reasons for the new system, the form it takes and the advantages it has brought. Findings – Explains that using the system makes things easier for the end-users who have one place to go for their learning materials. It has allowed the company to evaluate end-users’ knowledge of products and services. Practical implications – Reveals that the cost of delivering each individual piece of learning to any and every user is less than 20 USA cents. Social implications – Highlights the benefits of a learning-management system for organizations with large numbers of geographically dispersed employees. Originality/value – Describes a system that has helped JAS to standardize its approach to training globally, allowing consistent, controlled messaging and has created a method and process by which JAS can assess and evaluate its employees’ skills, knowledge base and areas for improvement.

The context of this work is that of designing an IMS-LD model for collaboration space of a learning management system (LMS). The work is specifically in the field or seeking to promote by means of information technology from a distance. The approach is to first think about the conditions for creating a real LMS between learners and designing the IT environment that supports this LMS. In this chapter, the authors try to adapt the IMS-LD model with a collaboration model for learning management system based on the social constructivism.

Implementation of UBUVirtual at University of Burgos: evaluation and use expectationsAbstractThis study evaluates the use, by students and teachers, of the new Learning Management System (LMS) at University of Burgos (UBUVirtual). This study also analyzes the assessments of teachers in the migration process from the previous LMS to the new one. The data has been collected from Moodle´s database, and from questionnaires completed by teachers. Results showed an adequate use of the LMS, from both teachers and students; however it must work to increase the available resources, and overall collaborative activities.
