Very low concentration sand transport in multiphase horizontal pipes is experimentally investigated in this study. Sand concentration is chosen to be low enough to ignore the effect of particle-particle interaction. This is done to obtain the liquid and gas threshold flow rates which are required to move particles at low concentration (0.002 volume percent) of particles in multiphase pipelines. Along with obtaining the threshold flow rates, the effects of sand concentration, sand size, pipe size and liquid viscosity are also experimentally investigated. Critical velocity is defined to make sure all grains of sand continuously move in the pipe. The experimental data were obtained for a wide range of operating conditions in both intermittent and stratified flow regimes. A comparison of the obtained experimental data in this study with similar studies in the literature reveals the effect of some physical parameters affecting sad transport in multiphase flow pipelines. This study also gives some general guidelines for a more accurate model to predict minimum flow rates to move sand in multiphase flows.

The experimental study on the mechanism of CO2 absorption and desorption was tested by two kinds of glycinate (SG and PG) with TEA. The absorption and regeneration of CO2 by mixed absorption liquid were tested and compared with each other. The results showed that a low concentration of TEA in the SG and PG increased CO2 absorption capacity of mixed absorption solution. Addin more TEA on PG or SG lowered CO2 absorption capacity of mixed absorption solution. Desorption of PG didnt change with TEA. The low concentration of TEA had a role in promoting the desorption of mixed absorption solution (SG+TEA), and the high concentration of TEA inhibited the desorption of mixed absorption solution (SG+TEA).

Nanofluids are known as dispersions of nano-scale particles in solvents. Recent reviews of pool boiling experiments using nanofluids have shown that they have greatly enhanced critical heat flux (CHF). In many practical heat transfer applications, however, it is flow boiling that is of particular importance. Therefore, an experimental study was performed to verify whether or not a nanofluid can indeed enhance the CHF in the flow boiling condition. The nanofluid used in this work was a dispersion of aluminum oxide particles in water at very low concentration (≤0.1 v%). CHF was measured in a flow loop with a stainless steel grade 316 tubular test section of 5.54 mm inner diameter and 100 mm long. The test section was designed to provide a maximum heat flux of about 9.0 MW/m2, delivered by two direct current power supplies connected in parallel. More than 40 tests were conducted at three different mass fluxes of 1,500, 2,000, and 2,500 kg/m2sec while the fluid outlet temperature was limited not to exceed the saturation temperature at 0.1 MPa. The experimental results show that the CHF could be enhanced by as much as 45%. Additionally, surface inspection using Scanning Electron Microscopy reveals that the surface morphology of the test heater has been altered during the nanofluid boiling, which, in turn, provides valuable clues for explaining the CHF enhancement.
