<p>The purpose of this study was to determine the languages used in Facebook wall posts and comments,<br />code-switching practice of these multilingual university students and functional orientation of their<br />Facebook wall posts and comments. This study was mainly based on the investigation of the latest 50<br />Facebook comments of 100 Malay public university students in Malaysia. The first language of these<br />university students is Bahasa Malaysia and English is their second language. The content analysis of<br />wall posts was used to analyze the code-switching language used in the Facebook and the primary<br />functions of the Facebook comments by categorizing them using Thurlow’s (2003) SMS categories that<br />contain nine orientations. The findings indicate that majority of the Facebook users comments are<br />categorized under friendship maintenance orientation to maintain existing relationships and create new<br />friendships. The findings indicate heavily abbreviated languages in English and Bahasa Malaysia. It is<br />found that situational code-switching between English and Bahasa Malaysia is heavily utilized by<br />multi-lingual Facebook users. The research is significant in a number of ways as it offers the<br />communication culture of Facebook among public university students in Malaysia. In addition, the<br />study indicates that Social Network Sites can also be a potential teaching and learning tool to teach<br />English since learners nowadays are members of various Social Network Sites.</p>

The present study is focused with two objectives: (1) to explore the influence of big-five personality factors (extraversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, openness to experience, and conscientiousness) towards social network site (SNS) usage among Asian university students, and (2) to analyze the mediating roles of personality, cultural and technology factors,  in the relationship between SNS usage on academic performance. Moreover, assessment framework for the integration of personality, cultural and technology factors for the effectiveness of SNS usage on academic performance has not been adequately presented in the available literature. For measuring the effects of SNS usage on academic performance, we have integrated Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision Making (FMCDM) Approaches: (a) Fuzzy Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and (b) Goal Programming (GP) approach. Further, the hybridization of fuzzy TOPSIS and GP has addressed only in very few studies. Based on this context we have integrated fuzzy TOPSIS and GP approach for evaluating SNS usage on academic performance from the perspective of university students in India. The hybrid GP-TOPSIS methodology has been employed in a real case study among VIT university students in India. A numerical illustration for SNS usage on academic performance is also given to demonstrate the application of hybrid MCDM approach.

This paper explores the influencing factors of Chinese university students in accepting and using social networking sites (SNS) to propose measures and recommendations that can guide and help these students correctly use SNS. In addition, this paper aims to provide theoretical support in increasing user loyalty for the SNS service providers and attract new users. The correlation and multiple regression analyses showed that perceived value, enjoyment, and influence positively influence the intention of individuals to use SNS.

Abstract Social media has phenomenally changed the communication landscape. Particularly social network sites have received enormous popularity and user acceptance globally. The business model of many social network sites is based on advertising. The survival of these social network sites depends on the user acceptance of advertising appearing on these websites. Users usually accept the advertising which is consistent with their motivations for using social network sites. The current study examines the underlying dimensions of entertainment motivation for using social network sites and their impact on user acceptance of social network advertising. Analysis of data from 450 university students show entertainment motivation for using social network sites a multidimensional (SNSs) construct consisting of enjoyment, social escapism, relaxation and pass time factors. Furthermore, the results exhibit that SNSs entertainment motivation partially impacts user acceptance of social network advertising.
