On the basis of a case study the costs of an existing long-distance drinking water supply system are compared to the potentiel costs of decentralized rainwater collection und usage systems. The costs of stormwater retention are included in the calculations in so far as rainwater utilization systems provide a retention capacity for stormwater in the cisterns. The results show, that in dependence of the market price of the rainwater usage systems, the decentral way to provide usage water to the households can be more cost effective compared to a central long-distance supply system.

Study of infrastructure is required to improve the drinking water supply system, in order to achieve The Long-Term Plan Targets on Water Supply (RPJMN) 2015-2019 concerning 100% universal and equitable access to drinking water services, in accordance with the purpose of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2019. Subang district was selected as a case study of water supply improvement because of the improving development in that area and the population growth rate, influencing the need for drinking water. The purpose study is to determine the problems of drinking water supply system, to analyze alternatives for improving water supply system by performing weighted ranking factors in drinking water supply improvement with AHP method and analyzed by fuzzy logic. The method for water supply system improvement could be performed by looking at influential factors using fuzzy AHP approach to obtain some appropriate alternatives. Technical and operational factors was considered the most influential factor in the improvement of water supply system, followed by management capacity, environment, and financial aspect. Fuzzy method with rule base input approach used in this analysis was influencing the output that became the policy alternative to improve drinking water supply.

Initiated by a case study to assess the effectiveness of the modernisation actions undertaken in a water supply system, some R&D activities were conducted to construct a global predictive model, based on the available operational failure and recovery data. The available operational data, regarding the water supply system, are the pipes’ diameter, failure modes, materials, functional conditions, seasonality, and the number of failures and time-to-recover intervals. The operational data are provided by the water company responsible of the supply system. A predictive global model is proposed based on the output of the operational data statistical assessment. It should assess the expected effectiveness of decisions taken in support of the modernisation and the extension plan.

Three Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterial strains were isolated from the drinking water supply system of the Hungarian capital, Budapest. Phylogenetic analysis on the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence comparison revealed that the isolates represented a distinct cluster within the clade of the genus Nocardioides and were most closely related to Nocardioides pyridinolyticus OS4T, Nocardioides aquiterrae GW-9T, Nocardioides sediminis MSL-01T and N. hankookensis DS-30T. The peptidoglycan based on ll-2,6-diaminopimelic acid, the major menaquinone MK-8(H4), the cellular fatty acid profile with iso-C16 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0 as predominating components and the DNA G+C content of 71.4 mol% (strain 1RaM5-12T) were consistent with the affiliation of the isolates to the genus Nocardioides. Because of differences in physiological characteristics, matrix-assisted laser-desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectra of protein extracts, PvuII RiboPrinter patterns and 96.1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between strain 1RaM5-12T and its closest phylogenetic neighbour, N. pyridinolyticus OS4T, a novel species, Nocardioides hungaricus sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain is 1RaM5-12T (=DSM 21673T =NCAIM 02330T).
