Glochidion zeylanicum var. arborescens (Blume) Chakrab. & M. Gangop. (Phyllanthaceae), a native of Southeast Asia, which was hitherto recorded from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Northeast India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Mizoram) and Odisha, is reported for the first time from the Seshachalam Biosphere Reserve of Andhra Pradesh. Detailed description and photo plate are provided for easy identification.

Stoliczka (1870) described Hylorana nicobariensis from the Nicobar Islands of India. The generic allocation of this enigmatic species is yet to be fully resolved (Chan et al. 2020b) and it has been placed in different genera (Boulenger 1885; Frost et al. 2006; Che et al. 2007; Oliver et al. 2015; Chan et al. 2020a; Chandramouli et al. 2020). As of now, the species is assigned to the genus Indosylvirana (Oliver et al. 2015; Chan et al. 2020b; Frost 2020). Apart from Nicobar archipelago, this species is distributed in the insular regions of southeast Asia (Oliver et al. 2015; Chandramouli et al. 2020; Frost 2020) and the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Tripura and West Bengal in northeast India (Sarkar et al. 1992, 2002; Sarkar & Ray 2006; Ahmed et al. 2009; Mathew & Sen 2010; Lalremsanga 2011; Lalremsanga et al. 2015, 2016). However, Frost (2020) doubted the records of this species in northeast India. Systematic studies on the herpetofauna of northeast India based on molecular evidence are scanty (Lalronunga et al. 2020a), and species recorded from the area need confirmation (Frost 2020). Recent studies revealed that many species previously recorded from northeast India were based on misidentifications (Das et al. 2019; Giri et al. 2019; Lalronunga et al. 2020b), therefore, a review and revalidation on the herpetofaunal list of the area is warranted. Herein, we examined the identity of the species recorded as I. nicobariensis from northeast India using morphological data and a fragment of 16S rRNA mitochondrial gene.

Abstract Northeast Indian biodiversity has long been considered to have a stronger affinity to Southeast Asian rather than Peninsular Indian fauna, however, few molecular phylogenetic studies have explored this hypothesis. In Asia, the polyphyletic gekkonid genus Cnemaspis sensu lato is comprised of two distantly related groups; one primarily from South Asia with some members in Southeast Asia, and the other exclusively from Southeast Asia. Cnemaspis assamensis is a systematically obscure and geographically isolated species (>1400 km from its nearest congeners) from the Brahmaputra River Valley in Northeast India. We provide the first molecular phylogenetic assessment of this species based on a partial ND2 gene fragment. Cnemaspis assamensis is determined to be a deeply divergent (Oligocene) member of the South Asian radiation and is sister to the podihuna clade which is endemic to Sri Lanka. The biogeographic implications of this find are discussed and this is suspected to represent a rare example of true disjunction between the wet zones of Northeast India and southern India/Sri Lanka. These results further emphasise the importance of Northeast India as a refuge for unique ancient faunal lineages.

Genera and species of the tribe Coelidiini from the Indian subcontinent are reviewed. Glaberana Nielson, Webbolidia Nielson and Zhangolidia Nielson are recorded from India for the first time. We collected the longhorn beetle Heteroglenea nigromaculata (Thomson, 1865) (Cerambycidae, Lamiinae, Saperdini) for the first time in India. The presence of this species in Kerala, South India, considerably extends its distribution to the west. Though H. nigromaculata is known from adjacent countries such as China, Thailand, and Myanmar, it has not been documented from North or Northeast India. Adults were found in association with the Indian Screw Tree, Helicteres isora L. (Sterculiaceae). We include photographs of living H. nigromaculata and brief comments on morphology and colouration.

A new species of the family Endromidae, Mustilizans zolotuhini sp. nov. is described from Dihang-Dibang Biosphere Reserve, Arunachal Pradesh, India. The subspecies, Mustilizans dierli refugialis Zolotuhin, 2007 is recorded for the first time from Sikkim, India. The distribution of the species known from India is mapped. The holotype of the new species is deposited in the Lepidoptera Section, National Zoological Collections, Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata.

The ascidian fauna at Campbell Bay, Bquary Beach and Laxman Beach, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was surveyed. A total of six species –Botrylloides leachi, Botrylloides pizoni, Clavelina picta, Clavelina robusta, Phallusia julineaandPolycarpa pigmentate– were newly recorded in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and the generaClavelinawas recorded for the first time in India. It is likely that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands provide a better environment for the growth of ascidians and this area in particular is populated by a greater variety of these ascidians than any of the other areas of the islands. This paper details their morphological and taxonomical features.

Codonopsis bhutanica Ludlow, a lesser-known endemic species to central and eastern Himalaya, collected for the first time from Arunachal Pradesh, India.  The species was previously known only from Bhutan and Nepal.  The species is reported here with a detailed taxonomic description along with habitat image, a photo-plate illustrating different features and a map showing the locality in Arunachal Pradesh as a new record to Indian flora.

This review deals with the species diversity of the orb-weaving spiders (Araneidae: Araneae: Arachnida) in different states of India and the union territories. A total of 256 species belonging to 49 genera of Araneidae were recorded in all states and the union territories of India except for Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, out of which 99 species (38.4%) were strictly endemic. Two genera of orb-weaver spiders are highly speciose, e.g. Araneus Clerck, 1757 (39 species) and Neoscona Simon, 1864 (36 species). About 119 species of these orb-weaver spiders were recorded from Maharashtra followed by 91 species from West Bengal, 81 species from Kerala, 79 species from Karnataka, 75 species from Gujarat, 71 species from Tamil Nadu, 65 species from Assam, 63 species from Uttar Pradesh, 58 species from Uttarakhand, 57 species from Madhya Pradesh, 47 species each from Odisha and Jammu and Kashmir, 41 species from Meghalaya, 34 species from Chhattisgarh, 32 species from Goa, 31 species from Rajasthan, 29 species from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 27 species from Andhra Pradesh, 24 species from Sikkim, 21 species each from Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Tripura, and less than 20 species were recorded from other states and union territories. Seven species are distributed in more than 20 states and union territories, viz. Argiope pulchella Thorell, 1881 (23 states, 3 union territories); Nephila pilipes (Fabricius, 1793) (24 states, 2 union territory); Neoscona mukerjei Tikader, 1980 (23 states, 1 union territory); Neoscona theisi (Walckenaer, 1837) (21 states, 3 union territories); Araneus mitificus (Simon, 1886) (21 states, 3 union territories); Argiope aemula (Walckenaer, 1837) (21 states, 2 union territories) and Eriovixia excelsa (Simon, 1889) (20 states, 2 union territories). Several species of Araneidae reported from India are recorded only from one state or from the type locality. Hence, intensive and extensive faunistic surveys for these spiders are required throughou
