Public multi-storey residential buildings in Malaysia are dependent on the passive design approach to ensure maximum safety during an emergency. Elements of escape route design include corridors, exits and staircases. This paper evaluates the escape route distance and duration for the elderly to evacuate the building to safety using Pathfinder simulations. The results show that the staircase has a significant contribution towards providing fast evacuation. Meanwhile, varying the width of the exit doors and corridors had minimal impact on evacuation. On average, the elderlies took longer to evacuate due to their slow speed of movement and limited physical capability. The study on evacuation safety often an emphasis on the total evacuation time where only few research consider the distance and path needed for evacuee to evacuate the building. Thus, this study focuses on the maximum and average travelling distance need for the elderly and other evacuees in the multi-storey residential building. Pathfinder software is used in this study, and 162 simulations were tested. Results show that the escape route design and staircase condition plays a significant contribution towards occupant travel distance. In response to the Malaysian housing shortage, various interventions introduced. However, while the housing gap is widening, problems relating to the performance and condition of the buildings on account of defects and poor maintenance is increasing unabated. This study investigated the selection criteria of maintenance procurement methods for public high-rise residential buildings through a survey involving eight (8) maintenance managers of PRIMA housings. The five (5) main selection criteria are working relationship intuition and experience, quality level, condition of the existing building, and clarity of scope. Renovation of buildings is a sustainable way to keep the built environment functional. Thus, it is important to find a way to assess the efficiency of a renovation activity. Besides functionality, which is the basic requirement for any building, sustainability has also become a significant factor due to the environmental challenges we face today. This study adopts principles of environmental efficiency in proposing an assessment framework for existing residential buildings that simultaneously reflects functionality and sustainability. The quality of life for the elderly is intimately related to the green open space. The use of this space will directly affect the health resilience of the elderly. The research methodology for this research comprised three stages. Stage one, to identify the health resilience from the previous studies. Content analysis was used in stage two to determine health resilience catalyst for the elderly. The final stage was to stream the influence element of health resilience for the elderly. The findings have implications for improving intervention plans designed to boost resilience and promote healthy ageing for the elderly. A good daylighting strategy is necessary in order to decrease energy consumption for artificial lighting. To provide effective internal illumination, the placing of the right openings in the right positions with suitable type of window and glazing is important. This study focused on the various types and materials of the glass and window, in order to identify the quantity and quality of daylight that penetrates into the residential buildings. Based on a series of measurement, it was identified that type of glazing and window gives major significance on the performance of daylight and thermal performance in residential buildings. Before the pandemic, residents in the Klang Valley tend to prioritize indoor living space to outdoor. This study analyzed the importance of outdoor green space in residential buildings. It consists of two objectives; to identify the type of home pocket gardens used and to evaluate the significant impact of home pocket gardens on the quality of life (QOL) during the pandemic. A survey was conducted using a five-point Likert scale and distributed to three housing communities within the Klang Valley. There is a correlation between the wellbeing of residents of elderly care centre with a well-designed outdoor space. The study was to assess the impact of outdoor space towards the elderly wellbeing in a selected care centre in Malaysia. The focus was on how the elderly physically, emotionally, psychologically and socially behave towards their environment. Recent study trends on elderlies range from improving their quality of life to reducing the risk of falling. This paper investigates current concerns on the risk of any untoward fall or injury of elderly residents in public housing due to the rising number of the elderly population. This study aims to analyze published literature with a focus on finding a non-semantic relation on the built environment with the elderly quality of life and risk of falling. Tokiwadaira is one of the districts most populated by elderly in Japan. This study compared the preferences of danchi and apartment residents to examine the neighbourhood park preferences as well as neighbourhood park similarity. This research was conducted in three stages, including a spatial preference survey, analysis, and interpretation. A Welch’s t-test and correspondence analysis were applied. Results demonstrated three significant differences between danchi and apartment residents, namely park preference, length of visit, and preferred park elements. There were four similarities among Tokiwadaira neighbourhood parks. The elderly (senior) is a unique generation with specific housing preferences. This study aims to provide an overview on the elderly housing preferences of the Malaysian generations. The objectives of this study are: (i) To define elderly; (ii) To identify the elderly housing preferences features; and (iii) To determine the elderly housing preferences by different age group (generations). The study adopts mixed-method strategy and revealed; (i) Health; (ii) Safety; (iii) Convenience; (iv) Amenity; and (v) Community as the preferred elderly housing features.
