The electronic structure of nanosystems on the basis of cadmium sulfide in a blende phase (zb-CdS) is investigated using the method of the density functional theory and pseudo-potentials. It is shown that the used approach allows to describe electronic states of this material rather correctly. It is revealed that the surface (100) - zb-CdS is characterized by the metal-like density of electronic states while the surfaces (110) - zb-CdS has a forbidden band at the Fermi level, and nanofilms with this orientation can be used as material for semiconductor devices. Epitaxial layered nanosystems (110) - zb-CdS-Si also show semiconductor properties.

Calculations of the structural and energy parameters, band structure and density of electronic states of new structural varieties of graphyne have been performed by the density functional theory method. The initial structure of the nine polymorphs was theoretically constructed on the basis of the 5-7a graphene layer. As a result of the calculations, the structure of only five graphyne layers was found to be stable: α-L5-7a, β1-L5-7a, β2-L5-7a, β3-L5-7a and β4-L5-7a. The structure of layers γ1-L5-7a, γ2-L5-7a, and γ3-L5-7a is transformed into the structure of graphene layers by geometric optimization, and the graphyne layer γ4-L5-7a is transformed sp+sp2 layer L3-6-13. The sublimation energy of the stable graphyne polymorphs varies from 6.66 to 6.78 eV/atom. The density of electronic states at the Fermi energy level for all α-L5-7a and β-L5-7a layers of graphyne is different from zero, so the new graphyne polymorphs should have metallic properties.

In this work, we performed a quantum-chemical calculation of some epoxy molecules: 1,2-epoxy-butene, 1,2-epoxy-2-methylpropane, 1,2 epoxyethane by the density functional theory DFT. An optimized geometric and electronic structure of these compounds is obtained. It was found that the studied epoxides belong to the class of very weak СH-acids (pKa = 28-30).

This paper studies the effect of GGA-PBE, GGA-PBEsol, GGA-PW91, GGA-VWN-BP, LDA-PWC, LDA-VWN parameterized exchange–correlation functionals and Cu impurity concentration on the lattice and electronic properties of bulk AuCu by the Density Functional Theory (DFT). The lattice properties are determined by the lattice constant, the unit cell volume and the total energy on unit cell. The electronic properties are determined by the band gap, the Partial Density of States (PDOS) and the total Density of States (DOS) of materials. The obtained results showed the effect of the interaction potential and the Cu impurity concentration on the lattice structure and the electronic structure of bulk AuCu.
