This article reviews some of the objections to the Advanced Placement Program in English, arguing that since that Program is the responsibility of school and college English teachers, it and the AP Examinations fairly accurately reflect and may sometimes influence the teaching of English composition and literature in the schools. It compares and contrasts the original test in Composition and Literature with the new test in Language and Composition, focusing on issues that arose in the development of the new test. It considers how some questions of both theoretical and practical consequence concerning the relationship between ordinary and literary language and between expository and critical writing are raised and tentatively answered by the Committee that develops the AP English Examinations and Course Descriptions.

Aims: Occupational stress, organizational stress, common occurrences among various professions worldwide, is regarded as a major psychological problem for banking employees. The aims of the study were to identify the relationship between occupational stress and job satisfaction among employees in banking sector of Sri Lanka, to identify the relationship between organizational stress and job satisfaction among employees in banking sector of Sri Lanka and to ensure whether there any differences of the occupational stress, organizational stress and job satisfaction with respect to private and public banks, gender and working experience. Methodology: A non-experimental correlational design was used in the study. A total of 200 banking employees from 6 banks completed the banking employees Stress Index, the Job Satisfaction Survey. Results: Study findings demonstrated that there were significant positive relationships between organizational stress and job satisfaction and between occupational stress and job satisfaction there was no any significant relationship. There were significant differences in levels of job satisfaction, between male and female banking employees. Male banking employees reported higher levels of job satisfaction. Working experience wise and sector wise, there was not any significant level of differences among organizational stress and occupational stress. Conclusion: Future research is needed to examine best practices for human resource managers to improve banking employee motivation and job satisfaction of banking employees.

The purpose of this research was to study the relationship between occupational stress, coping strategies and job satisfaction among nurses working in general hospital and psychiatric hospital. The sample consisted of 300 nurses (150 nurses from general hospital and 150 from psychiatric hospital) drawn from Hubli and Dharawad district hospitals, Chitradurga, Shimoga district hospitals of Karnataka. The primary objective of the study is to study the relationship between occupational stress, coping strategies and level of job satisfaction among nurses working in general hospitals and psychiatric hospitals. The participants were administered the occupational stress index developed by Prof. S. K. Srivastava and Prof. A. P. Singh, ways of coping questionnaire developed by Lazarus and Folkman (1989) and Job satisfaction questionnaire developed by C.N. Daftuar. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Method of correlation to find out the relationship between these variables. The results of the study have shown that there is a significant positive relationship exists between the occupational stress, coping strategies and job satisfaction among nurses working in general and psychiatric hospitals.

Teaching profession has been hit by high teacher turnover and attrition resulting in shortage of teachers in primary schools. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of occupational stress on job satisfaction among primary school teachers in Nandi County, Kenya.  The main objective was to find the relationship between occupational stress and job satisfaction. This study adopted the explanatory survey research design. The study targeted a total of 1652 primary school teachers. Simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 312 teachers. The main data collection instrument was a questionnaire for the teachers. The data collected was analysed through the use of SPSS by regressing and correlating occupational stress and job satisfaction in order to determine the strength of the relationship. The study results indicated that there was a positive relationship between occupational stress and job satisfaction (β = .527, p = .000). The coefficient of determination (R2 =  .452) for the estimated model indicated that 45.2% of the deviations in occupational stress contribute towards job satisfaction among  primary school teachers. A majority of the primary school teachers are dissatisfied with teaching and if given an opportunity would leave teaching for other professions. The study recommends that it is imperative of government and other stakeholders in education to ensure a high level of career satisfaction for highly qualified and experienced teachers.
