How do the views developed in this book connect with traditional work in analytic metaphysics on time? After giving a potted history of the field, the chapter then displays many connections and modifications between that work and the present one. It highlights one major problem with traditional analytic philosophy of time, namely, its focus on bare existence, i.e., what events exist as of when. Almost by definition, existence will play no role in science, so philosophy of time will never be threatened by scientific results. The irony about this maneuver is that creating this safety zone around time leaves philosophers of time unable to do their original job, explaining the temporal phenomena.

Purpose: Pelvic vascular injury is a serious complication associated with acetabular component setting with screw fixation in cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA). In this study, we investigated the safety zone for acetabular component setting with screw fixation in cementless THA as a means to prevent pelvic vascular injury. Methods: Thirty left hip joints of Japanese cadavers (11 males and 19 females) were analyzed. We used a hemispherical measuring cup with 52 guide holes designed to allow vertical insertion of a Kirschner wire. After the measuring cup was placed on the acetabulum, the Kirschner wire was inserted from each guide hole to examine the anatomical relationship between the acetabulum and the pelvic vessels. We calculated the frequency of pelvic vessel punctures and measured the distance from the acetabular surface to the pelvic vessels at each guide hole. Results: Our findings revealed that pelvic vessels do not exist in certain parts of the posterior area of the acetabulum. Furthermore, in this area, intrapelvic vessels are either lacking or located at a distance ≥31 mm from the surface of the acetabulum. Conclusion: The posterior area of the acetabulum, excluding its central portion, appeared to be the safety zone for acetabular screw fixation in Japanese cadavers.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to look at the extent and type of internationalization among Hungarian information technology (IT) small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the possible relationship between the degree of innovativeness and the internationalization of these companies. Information technologies play an important role in the Hungarian economy: this sector is one of the most R&D intensive industries in which many SMEs are active. The paper reviews relevant theories of internationalization in research, development and innovation (RDI) to give a broader picture of the environment in which SMEs have to succeed. This is followed by a secondary data analysis to show the situation of the industry in Hungary, then by an analysis of the survey data and interviews designed specifically for the purpose of this research. The new empirical results show that Hungarian IT SMEs are still at the beginning of the internationalization process: while aware of the advantages of collaborations and internationalization, they are still reluctant to venture out of their “safety zone” and therefore they collaborate only with their closest partners. Very few SMEs have decided to establish international RDI contacts. The analysis suggests that the main barriers in internationalization of the Hungarian SMEs are due to lack of capital, appropriate managerial capabilities and innovation-friendly economic environment. So far, most theories/empirical research have concentrated on the role and activities of multinational enterprises in the internationalization of RDI, while in the literature less relevant knowledge on SMEs is available. The aim of this paper is to contribute to this latter part of the literature by analyzing the international activities of innovative/R&D-intensive SMEs in Hungary.

Water resources are central to the achievement of all the Sustainable Development Goals, and should be viewed as a crosscutting connector - not a sector. The water community should do more to get outside its safety zone and work with all water-related sectors. The SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme is assisting countries to use water as a connector between their SDG targets.
