Nowadays people especially those in the metropolitan area or developing their livelihood on a smart phone. Based on this, there arose an idea to expand and enrich the smart phone functions not only as a medium of communication, but one of them as a device that can help people in carrying out daily activities. One of them as a device that can help people to supplement the existing weaknesses in him, such forgetfulness. Forgetting the parking location is one of human weakness because of forgetfulness. That requires a device that can help people to remember the location of parking their vehicles. In addition, the smart phone also can help people to make payment transactions more practical. Then, if a parking location reminder device combined with payment at the parking booth will be a very useful tool and efficient. With smart phone technology is increasingly sophisticated and technology support NFC (Near Field Communication) device is expected to be a solution to deal with problems that often occur in parking location and minimize queuing at the ticket counter payment of parking

This work is focused on the design and fabrication of hydrogel sensors for the agricultural applications, “a multi-sensory device”. Agriculture is an important contributor to Qatar’s economy, as the country is aiming to produce more local products. We chose to use hydrogel in soil, for their high efficiency in absorbing water. The hydrogel will be embedded in a multisensory device that will provide consistent plant watering when soil is dry and in need for water. The multi-sensory device will employ NFC switch “Near Field Communication” which is a wireless communication device used to control water flow for plant irrigation. Also, the experimental work including enhancing soil properties by using Arabic gum (sodium 2-[(7-carboxyheptyl)-Chydroxycarbonimidoyl] benzen-1-olate), a biodegradable and naturally available polymer. It is proven that it decreases soil porosity, enhances the reinforcement between the soil and the hydrogel therefore retaining more water and preventing evaporation, it also increases plant growth through fixating nitrogen in the soil.

Near-field communication is a new kind of low-cost wireless communication technology developed in recent years, which brings great convenience to daily life activities such as medical care, food quality detection, and commerce. The integration of near-field communication devices and sensors exhibits great potential for these real-world applications by endowing sensors with new features of powerless and wireless signal transferring and conferring near field communication device with sensing function. In this review, we summarize recent progress in near field communication sensors, including the development of materials and device design and their applications in wearable personal healthcare devices. The opportunities and challenges in near-field communication sensors are discussed in the end.

This paper brings up this idea of using Near Field Communication (NFC) for inventory control system instead of using traditional barcodes. NFC because of its high security, ease of use and efficiency can be very suitable for systems like inventory control. In traditional inventory control systems, each product has a barcode pasted on it, which is vulnerable to attacks as barcodes are open and have no security. Furthermore, barcodes are prone to damages and can be unreliable when pasted on different types of products e.g. hot and frozen products, circular shaped products and irregular shaped products like clothes etc. NFC on the other hand is very efficient, secure and reliable when it comes to short-range wireless communication. In this paper we will present our prototype for the inventory control system of an electronic store in which each product has a passive NFC tag pasted to it. When a customer buys a product the receipt of the product is generated using NFC between the NFC passive tag on the product and NFC enabled device (e.g. smart phone or reader) at the cash counter.

As various ubiquitous computing technologies become applied into many smart space systems, most museums attempt to use these techniques for their own domain. Near Field Communication(NFC) is one of wireless technologies primarily used for short range communication between smart phones and similar devices, supporting a variety of information exchange services in some effective way. In this paper, we present a new user similarity-based contents recommendation service to improve the counterpart of our previously developed museum viewing system by using NFC. In order to satisfy this goal, this service utilizes similarity of artifact attached NFC tagging patterns of users. Its desirable feature enables users to actually find and obtain their favorite contents by systematically consulting the tastes of the other users very close to those of the first. Also, the proposed system may considerably reduce overloading on contents providing servers by having smart phone clients get certain parts of basic artifact related contents information directly through NFC tags, not the servers.
