Global Positioning System (GPS) radio-collars are increasingly used to estimate Gray Wolf (Canis lupus) kill rates. In interpreting results from this technology, researchers make various assumptions about wolf behavior around kills, yet no detailed description of this behavior has been published. This article describes the behavior of six wolves in an area of constant daylight during 30 hours, from when the pack killed a Muskox (Ovibos moschatus) calf and yearling on Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada, to when they abandoned the kill remains. Although this is only a single incident, it demonstrates one possible scenario of pack behavior around a kill. Combined with the literature, this observation supports placing a radio-collar on the breeding male to maximize finding kills via GPS collars and qualifying results depending on whatever other information is available about the collared wolf’s pack.

Teknlologi ADSB is a new technology in the observation plane which is a combination of global positioning system (GPS), so that the aircraft can be traced to the position, velocity, wind direction, and altitude. This tool can be installed in the aircraft or ground stations and more superior than the radar.ADS-B is indeed a revolutionary look, start with only the antenna and the tool less than for a small refrigerator can detect aircraft and air traffic displays.Automatic Dependent Surveillance- Broadcast (ADS-B) is a detection technology where each plane passing owned transponder emits every two times per second information altitude, position, speed, direction, and other information to ground stations and other aircraft. This information is obtained from the information the Global Positioning System (GPS) or backup Flight Management System (FMS) in each plane.

We examined the spatial interactions of nine female White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) in two deeryards (winter aggregations) in northeastern Minnesota during February-April 1999. Global positioning system (GPS) collars yielded seven pair-wise comparisons of deer that were located at the same time (≤1 minute apart) and that used overlapping areas. Deer traveled separately and did not associate with one another. Within overlapping areas, comparisons of distances between deer and distances between random locations indicated deer moved without regard to each other. Similarly, comparisons of observed and expected probabilities of deer using areas overlapping those of other deer also evinced that deer moved independently.

Abstract The environment is an important factor in transmitting vector-borne diseases where an environment is a place of interaction between hosts, agents, and vectors. The existence of mosquitoes as a vector of various types of diseases is influenced by the existence of mosquito breeding habitats in an area. The results of mapping can be a guide to finding larva habitat when carrying out vector control. In addition, there is no map of larva habitat in Cibalong Subdistrict, Garut Regency so that mapping of breeding sites and behavior of mosquitoes becomes very important. The purpose of this study was to map the mosquito larval habitats in Cibalong District, Garut regency. Data collection was done by plotting habitats using Global Positioning System (GPS) and larva identifications using a compound microscope. Habitat larvae found in Karangparanje, Karyasari Village and Sakambangan, Mekarwangi Village, dominated by rice fields and water streams. While larvae found were Culex sp, Anopheles sp, Aedes sp, and Malaya sp. This finding confirmed that  Cibalong District receptive as a transmitting area of Malaria, DHF, and Filaria, so it is necessary to be aware of the possibility of transmission of vector-borne diseases in those areas.

Abstract Dual-axis accelerometer global positioning system collars can be used to remotely record the activity level and behavior of free-ranging animals, but inter- and intraspecific variations in motion among behaviors necessitate calibration for each species of interest. To date, little work has been done to determine the best duration for sampling intervals when using activity monitors that incorporate dual-axis accelerometers. However, we expected that the duration of behaviors relative to the duration of sampling intervals could affect the accuracy of calibration and behavior classification models. Furthermore, we considered the potential effect of winter diet supplementation (hay) on behavior classification. We used Lotek 4500 global positioning system collars featuring dual-axis accelerometer activity monitors to collect data for calibration and classification trials on Rocky Mountain elk Cervus elaphus nelsoni. We used discriminant function model structures to determine the number of accurately classifiable behaviors that could be derived from data sampled over three sampling interval durations (5 min, 152 s, and 64 s) while also considering the potential effect of hay supplementation on classification. Our results suggest that investigators should ascertain whether their focal elk herd accesses or might access supplemental hay before deployment and analysis of activity sensor data. Similarly, researchers must weigh priorities when choosing a sampling interval, because no optimal solution emerged from our investigation. For example, of our acceptable models, only those constructed using 64-s intervals were able to distinguish short bouts of running. However, only models constructed with 5-min intervals accurately classified browsing while also maximizing the number of behaviors identified.

This paper examines the distribution of hospitality services in Uyo Urban, Nigeria. GIS method was the primary tool used for data collection. A global positioning system (GPS) Garmin 60 model was used in tracking the location of 102 hospitality services in the study area. One hypothesis was stated and tested using the nearest neighbour analysis. The finding shows evidence of clustering of the various hospitality services. The tested hypothesis further indicated that hospitality services clustered in areas that guarantee a sustainable level of patronage to maximize profit. Thus, the hospitality services clustered in selected streets in the metropolis while limited numbers were found outside the city’s central area.
