Background: The existence of Aedes sp. is an indicator of the presence of a population of Aedes sp. environmental conditions also greatly affect the incidence of dengue disease, it is also related to the presence of larvae. Citra Medika Health center’s working area is a contributor of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) incidence with increased DHF cased from 2016-2018. Objective: to analyze the relationship between environmental conditions and the presence of Aedes sp. in the Citra Medika Health Center, Lubuk Linggau Timur District 1 in 2020. Methods: It was quantitative research with a cross-sectional design approach. The total sample was 91 respondents, who have met predetermined criteria using the purposive sampling technique, with inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. The data used in this study are secondary data from Citra Medika Health Center and primary data obtained from interviews and direct observation. Result: It showed that there was a relationship between the implementation of Mosquito Breeding Eradication (p-value 0,047) and the presence of solid waste (p-value 0.039) with the presence of Aedes sp. larvae. Conclusion: This study concludes that the presence of Aedes sp. larvae are caused by factors such as the implementation of Mosquito breeding Eradication DBD and the presence of solid waste.

Tropical countries are the largest contributor to the incidence of Dengue HemorrhagicFever (DHF), but research on risk factors is still independent in various countries, it cannot beconcluded holistically. Through the research design, a systematic review is able to summarize andanswer the causes of DHF in this tropical country. This research method is a systematic review withguidelines following the 2009 PRISMA Checklist. In the initial search, 1,680 articles were foundusing the keyword “risk factors for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever”, reduced to 274 article titles afteradding the keyword “tropical country”. Furthermore, the relevant abstracts were fi ltered and found37 selected article items. Through critical appraisal of the full text of the article, it was found that 17articles met the selection criteria for further review in this study. The results showed that there were5 major groups of risk factors that were widely studied, namely sociodemography, climatology, placeof dwelling, environment, and behavior. The sociodemographic factor associated with the incidenceof DHF in tropical countries is age. In terms of climatology, temperature and rainfall are importantfactors in the vector breeding process. Rural areas (rural areas) are the place of dwelling with the mostcases of DHF found. The environmental aspect that has been widely studied is mosquito breeding. Themost signifi cant risk behavior factor in transmission was the behavior of hanging clothes. Of the 17articles, it was found that 77.8% of the articles examined environmental variables.

BACKGROUND: One of the factors contributing to dengue’s endemicity is the density of the dengue vector, namely, Aedes aegypti as the primary vector and Aedes albopictus as the secondary vector. Bentiring and Kandang Limun villages are high endemic areas of dengue. AIM: This study aimed to determine the relationship between dengue endemicity and density figure (DF) and Maya index (MI) in Bentiring and Kandang Limun villages, Bengkulu city. METHODS: This study used a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used proportionate stratified sampling. The sampling refers to the guidelines for dengue entomology surveys according to the WHO 1999 criteria. A total of 400 ovitraps were installed, 200 ovitraps inside the house and 200 ovitraps outside the house. RESULTS: The results showed that Bentiring and Kandang Limun villages had a high risk of dengue transmission based on entomological parameters, namely, ovitrap index (OI) 56% and 55% (DF 6), house index (HI) 45% and 44% (DF 6), container index (CI) 23% and 23% (DF 6), and BI 96% and 120% (DF 7 and 8). The areas have a high risk of dengue transmission based on the MI 71% and 76%, respectively. There is a relationship between dengue endemicity and entomological index in Bentiring and Kandang Limun villages, Bengkulu city, with a significance value (p = 0.000) and a powerful correlation (r = 1.000). CONCLUSION: There is a relationship between dengue endemicity and the MI in Bentiring village and Kandang Limun village, Bengkulu city, with a significance value (p = 0.014 and 0.058) and a powerful correlation (r = 0.920 and r = 1.000), respectively. The entomological index and DF are predictors for dengue prevention and control environment to minimize mosquito breeding sites and reduce disease transmission.

Keberadaan jentik nyamuk Aedes aegypti dalam sumur gali sebagai tempat penampungan air alamiah dapat dipengaruhi beberapa faktor. Keberadaan jentik Aedes aegypti dapat ditemukan pada genangan air bersih dan tidak mengalir, terbuka serta terlindung dari cahaya matahari. Lingkungan tempat penduduk adalah tempat perindukan nyamuk oleh karena itu masyarakat harus menjaga kebersihan lingkungan disekitar rumah dan tidak ada tempat atau media yang dapat menjadi tempat perindukan nyamuk. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik sumur gali yang berpotensi menjadi tempat perkembangbiakan nyamuk Aedes aegypti di Desa Salo Timur Kecamatan Salo Tahun 2020. Jenis penelitian ini adalah explanatory research dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi penelitian adalah sumur gali yang berada di Desa Salo Timur sejumlah 1033 sumur gali dan diperoleh 280 sampel. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan metode Purposive Sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukan ada hubungan antara letak sumur gali (nilai p=0,012), keberadaan penutup sumur gali (nilai p=0,000), pH sumur gali (nilai p=0,000), dan Pencahayaan Sumur Gali (nilai p=0,000) dengan keberadaan jentik nyamuk Aedes aegypti.   The larvae exitence in dug wells where it is a place of collecting and saving water were influenced by some factors. The presence of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae can be found in stagnant water that does not flow, open, and protected from sunlight. The environment where residents are breeding palces for mosquitoes is therefore the community must maintain the cleanliness of the environment around the house and there is no place or media that can become mosquito breeding places. The purpose of this study determined the characteristics of dug wells that could potentially become a breeding Aedes aegypti mosquito in Salo Timur Village, Salo District in 2020 This type of research was explanatory research which using cross sectional approach. The population of this research were dug wells around  in the village of East Salo with a total of 1033 dug wells and 280 samples were obtained. Sampling using the Purposive Sampling method. The results showed there was a relationship between the location of dug wells (p = 0.012), the presence of dug well cover (p = 0,000), pH of dug wells (p = 0,000) and dug well lighting (p=0,000) with the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae. Suggestion, improve sanitation of dug wells to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.

Abstract The COVID-19 epidemic has brought more people into their homes, so it is hoped that their behavior towards dengue mosquito nests in their homes will improve. The design of this study was cross-sectional with a consecutive sampling approach in data collection, which was conducted between May 6, 2020 – May 9, 2020, in Indonesia. Data was collected using a questionnaire (google form) which was assessed with ten indicators. Data analysis was carried out by using the average difference test to determine differences in people’s behavior. The analysis results showed no significant difference (p>0.005) with the community’s behavior in controlling the dengue vector before and during the pandemic. Suggestions that need to be made are continuous education about DHF and efforts to prevent transmission by eradicating mosquito nests.

There is broad consensus that successful and sustained larval source management (LSM) interventions, including bio-larviciding campaigns, require embeddedness in local community institutions. Ideally, these community structures should also be capable of mobilizing local resources to (co-)finance interventions. To date, farmer cooperatives, especially cooperatives of rice growers whose economic activity facilitates mosquito breeding, have remained under the radar in designing community-based bio-larviciding campaigns. This study explores the potential of rice farmer cooperatives in Bugesera district, Rwanda, to take up the aforementioned roles. To this purpose, we surveyed 320 randomly selected rice farmers who belonged to one of four rice cooperatives in the area and elicited their willingness-to-pay (WTP) for application of Bti, a popular bio-larvicide, in their rice paddies. Results from a (non-incentivized) bidding game procedure, which tested two alternative contribution schemes showed that financial contributions would be significantly different from zero and sufficient to carry a co-financing share of 15–25 per cent. A strong heterogeneity in mean WTP is revealed across cooperatives, in addition to variation among individual farmers, which needs to be anticipated when engaging farmer cooperatives in LSM.

Abstract The Aedes aegypti mosquito, known as the vector for Zika, dengue, chikungunya, and yellow fever viruses, has historically been targeted by public health campaigns as an enemy to be eliminated. However, new strategies, such as the transgenic approach, biologically modify the A. aegypti so that they can be deployed to control their own population—here, mosquito breeding and mating is operationalized as an insecticide. In this case, the insect must be simultaneously a friend and an enemy, cared for and killed, and it must establish encounters and nonencounters. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork at a “biofactory” in the northeast of Brazil dedicated to mass-producing these transgenic mosquitoes, this article investigates the new forms of labor and value produced through these contrasting human-mosquito relations. The author also examines how the project is implemented within broader geopolitics of experimentation and more-than-human gendered conceptions. Analyzing the multispecies relationships engendered under the premise that it is possible to produce nonencounters, she identifies the historical conditions and promissory claims of transforming the A. aegypti ’s reproductive capacity into labor for killing. Such recasting yields what the author calls the “nonencounter value” within the scientific remaking of mosquitoes, their becoming and being.

This study seeks to examine the living conditions, working conditions, and health seeking behaviour for malaria among Kondho community after one is infected with malaria. The residential surroundings of those diagnosed with malaria positive cases were extremely conducive for mosquito breeding. For instance, the majority of households threw garbage near their house, went for open defecation, the cowshed was beside their houses, and above all the houses were mostly situated in the jungle or near thick forest. Sub-centre followed by the community health centres was the first point of contact in most cases but medical care was sought only after routine life was affected. While malaria treatment plans are changing towards administering more powerful drugs as a result of chloroquine resistance but not as much has been done in the ground to prevent malaria at the first place. Therefore, together with continuing curative care for malaria—more emphasis is needed on its prevention. Community, civil society and the government need to work in tandem to improve the living and working conditions of backward communities particularly those living in malaria endemic zone so as to be able to take effective preventive measures for malaria.

Abstract. Salavati B, Zahirnia AH, Nasirian H, Hamidian SA. 2021. Trend of mosquito (Diptera: Culicidae) monthly distribution in Sanandaj County of Iran. Biodiversitas 22: 4705-4715. Mosquitoes are the most significant arthropods of medical importance due to their burden of transmitting pathogens and parasites. The present study was designed to investigate the distribution of mosquitos (Diptera: Culicidae) in Sanandaj County in 2018. Sanandaj County was divided into four areas in rural and urban areas, including north, south, east, and west. Four rural and urban areas were randomly selected from four geographical directions. A sampling of larval and adult mosquitoes was performed using standard methods. The dipping technique was used to collect the mosquito larvae. A sampling of adult mosquitoes was performed during feeding on humans and animal baits and resting in the natural indoors, outdoors, and artificial areas. Light traps were also used to collect adult mosquitoes. The larval and adult specimens were identified using the morphology-based key. In total, nine mosquito species, including Anopheles maculipennis s.l., Anopheles superpictus s.l., Culiseta longiareolata, Culiseta subochrea, Culex hortensis, Culex mimeticus, Culex modestus, Culex pipiens, and Culex theileri were inhabited in Sanandaj County. The larval and adult mosquito species trend remains constant for at least 6 months of a year, from May to October. One-way ANOVA didn't reveal a significant difference between mosquito breeding places' habitats and water types, mosquito localities and life stages, monthly mosquito distribution, and adult mosquito resting places. The frequency trends of larval and adult mosquito species remain constant at least for 6 months of a year. It needs to be ready for timely mosquito control measures.
