The vision and concept of FOLIO have gained the attention and expectation from libraries. Its open and flexible service platform provides an approach to the realization of the Smart Libraries in the future. On the basis of summarising the needs of Smart Libraries in China, the paper expounds the architecture and ideas of providing smart services based on FOLIO. By analyzing the problems and challenges in the implementation and localization of FOLIO in China, the author points out that the“Chinese Alliance for Library Service Platform”(also called YunHan Alliance) should play a very important role in running the Chinese FOLIO community. It should steward the direction of the community, carry out the minimum open source software application suite, cultivate an open platform ecology, so as to support the new business models for the prosperity of Chinese libraries in the future.

Therefore, in the future, the formation of insurance protection against risks similar to COVID-19 is possible only on the private and public partnership platform. Largely, insurers will not take on pandemic risks on their own, but they can significantly improve the process of managing and financing such risks in partnership with the state. The new situation has given new business models for managing insurance services based on digitalization and separate access. There is no doubt now that all the achievements in the management of insurance services, which were carried out in a short time during the pandemic, will be used in the future and will be further developed. These models will be able to significantly reduce insurance costs in the future, and this is the main positive of the situation in connection with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The aim of this paper is to show rising importance of business model innovation in telecommunication industry. Work gives an overview of telecommunication market, it presents the strategy mobile operators have and challenges they face to adopt to digital world. The main focus is on new business models operators can implement in order to innovate and stay competitive at the market. Cases when operators work in collaboration with startups were analysed and followed by examples from practice. The influence of digitalisation trend on Serbian telecommunication market and how mobile operators respond to it in comparison to other countries were investigated in more detail.

Open source software and open innovation are an important resource for today’s industries. Communities collaboratively create different kind of publicly available value, boosting innovation and also technology. However, whereas this value is generated and captured by various involved parties, the outcomes are, in many cases, commercialized by companies who build their business models on this openness. Thus, current business model representations used for these open systems mainly focus on the commercial side of companies, not directly regarding the value creation and distribution by the underlying communities. This results in a lack of potential representation of alternative value created by individuals and communities that are not necessarily aiming for direct monetary compensation. In this work, we show, by the example of open source projects, how communities create value and their potential to be represented by the upcoming domain of new business models. The emerging idea of new business models, based on sharing, collaboration, and the circular economy, not only considers economical viewpoints, but also social and ecological. New trends in research are intensively starting to investigate these models and how they can be brought to practice. The co-creation of value, collaboration of various actors, and following a shared vision are just some of the identified overlaps that are also essential for a potential representation of open communities. This first review unveils that new business models and open source software projects have a variety of aspects in common. We highlight the potential of open communities to be seen as new business models themselves, instead of just being a pure enabler for firms’ business models. This approach is leaving room to explore new organizational and economical aspects of open ecosystems, enhancing the understanding of co-creative communities and the definition of collaborative value.

AbstractThe paper investigates the major trends and business models of the new reality after the Covid-19 crisis. Due to the vastness of the theme, the research will be focused on the areas of supply chain and entrepreneurship. These sectors are probably the most affected today, but, also, the ones that will experience a major change in the future. Building on insights and data from top management consultants, the findings revealed some commons trends, like digitization, transparency, localization, the rising of e-commerce and the contact-less economy. In conclusion, the author proposes a model based on a virtuous cycle of elements that will shape the business models of the future as a contribution to the research in the selected sectors.


The Civil Construction and Public Works sector in Portugal has undergone huge oscillations over the last years, reflected on the number of companies, turnover and number of direct employees assigned to the activity. This sector is an important sector for economic growth and companies must adopt strategic analysis and control tools in order to survive and remain competitive. Companies operate in a large, highly competitive and demanding market, with new players and new business models. Companies need to find new ways of competing worldwide and internationalization emerges as one of the business responses to the challenge of globalization. Sustainability is a commitment to the future, a route that organizations must travel to search the best solutions to humankind problems, whether they are economic, social or environmental.

Die (Technologie-) Entwicklung im Zukunftsprojekt Industrie 4.0 wird an keinem Unternehmen vorbeigehen. Insbesondere Hersteller von bislang rein mechanischen Komponenten und Bauteilen üben sich jedoch derzeit noch oft in Zurückhaltung. Worin liegt der Nutzen von Industrie 4.0? Wie können Fertigungsbetriebe davon profitieren? Werden sie durch die aktuellen Entwicklungen gezwungen, mit „auf den Zug aufzuspringen“ oder ist es ihnen sogar möglich, sich über neue Geschäftsmodelle vom Wettbewerb abzusetzen?   The development of the technology within the future-oriented project Industry 4.0 will affect every company, a fact well known today. The situation is precarious especially for producers of solely mechanic components and parts – posing the question of their benefit? How can they profit from this development? Are they obliged by current development to jump on the bandwagon or instead does it offer the chance to come up with new business models and differentiate against competitors?
