Indoor access point (AP) causes the signal quality is reduced because it is hampered by a wall to access the outdoors. Wi-Fi is available for students only 3 APs, and IP availability is limited so it cannot meet all demand access. In addition, all the AP are connected only through the router without using the AP controller that can cause boottleneck. The lack of rule governing UNP Wi-Fi channel Processing, because the Wi-Fi is adjacent even the Wi-Fi uses the same channel so it can causes interference. The purpose of this study is to determine whether available Wi-Fi can cover areas in blocks of Electronical Engineering Department, to know the quality of the signal with InSSIDer  Software Network Stumbler and, to know the results of the speed of traffic data at any Available Wi-Fi the Department of Electronical Engineering, and find out if an Access Point (AP) which affects the quality of the indoor signal to access the outdoors. This study classified into the descriptive study with a qualitative approaching using descriptive methods. Sampling technique in this study were 95 users whose population are Electronical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from 2009 to 2012 generation. The technique of collecting data was using questionnaires and observation. Data were analyzed by using the formula. The analysis shows that the network quality is good and no signal quality percentage below 50 %. Throughput values ​​for the uplink and downlink speeds are not always the same, regardless of the size of the data is same. Free Space Path Loss value’s depends on the distance of the user and access point. The greater the distance of the user to the AP the greater Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG). It can be concluded that the average daily traffic, weekly, monthly, and yearly are differerent for the next daily, weekly, monthly, yearly trafics because it depends on the users and conditions. The Wi-Fi’s facility has a very important role to help students to fullfil their needs. Keywords : Wi-Fi, LAN, Throughput, Free Space Path Loss , MRTG.

One of the changes in the field of telecommunications is the use of wireless technology. Wireless technology is applied to computer networks better known as Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). Network coverage quality measurements can be seen from categories of delay or suspension, excess queues on the network, increased traffic, and output results. By using Wi-Fi Analyzer and Ekahau software we get the Quality of Service (QoS) value to see how good the coverage of the existing wireless network is. The result of the measurement is analyzed to get the adjustment of the wireless area coverage formula so that it can find the maximum range used as a reference in placing the ideal access point. The addition of access point points is done on all buildings where at some point the area can not be reached as a whole.

WiFi bekerja pada band 2,4 GHz dan 5 GHz. Standar WiFi yang bekerja pada frekuensi ini antara lain IEEE802.11g dan IEEE802.11a. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pengukuran terhadap transfer rate download dan upload data dengan standar IEEE802.11g dan IEEE802.11a. Pengukuran dilakukan pada kanal Line of Sight (LOS), menggunakan dua buah laptop yang dihubungkan dengan Access Point (AP) standar IEEE802.11g dan IEEE802.11a.  Hasil penelitian diperoleh, pada standar IEEE802.11g, transfer rate download dan upload data tertinggi 2.662,54.KB/s dan 2.549,60 KB/s, dan terendah 484,50.KB/s dan 477,40 KB/s, sedangkan pada standar IEEE802.11a, transfer rate download dan upload data tertinggi 8.104,68 KB/s dan 5.744,24 KB/s, dan terendah 872,24 KB/s dan 465,38.KB/s. Pada standar IEEE802.11g, transfer rate download dan upload data pada sinyal terendah hingga di bawah 35% dan 30%, dari transfer rate download dan upload data tertinggi. Pada standar IEEE802.11a, transfer rate download dan upload data pada kualitas sinyal terendah hingga di bawah 20% dan 30%, dari transfer rate download dan upload data tertinggi. Kemampuan transfer rate download data Standar IEEE802.11a, 2–3 kali lebih baik pada kondisi kualitas sinyal tertinggi, dan tidak lebih dari 2 kali pada kondisi kualitas sinyal terendah, dibandingkan kemampuan transfer rate download data standar IEEE802.11g. Kemampuan transfer rate upload data Standar IEEE802.11a, 1,4–3 kali lebih baik pada kondisi kualitas sinyal tertinggi, dan 1-3 kali lebih baik pada kondisi kualitas sinyal terendah, dibandingkan kemampuan transfer rate upload data standar IEEE802.11g.

Wireless Local area Network  (WLAN) suatu jaringan area lokal tanpa kabel yang menggunakan frekuensi radio sebagai media transmisinya. Dalam penelitian ini merancang sebuah jaringan wifi di Perumahan Dosen Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya, yang pancaran wifinya dari kampus Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya, sehingga Perumahan Dosen dapat mengakses wifi tanpa perlu datang ke kampus. Sebagai receiver komunikasi wifi diperlukan peranan antena dalam sistem komunikasi tanpa kabel (wireless) dengan jarak jauh, antena yang digunakan adalah antena yagi yang bekerja pada frekuensi 2400 MHz. Antena yagi dipilih karena sifatnya yang directional atau pola pancarannya yang terarah. Dalam perancangan antena yagi untuk ukuran reflector, driven, director dan balun dibantu dengan software yagi calculator serta disimulasikan dan diuji  menggunakan MMANA-GAL untuk menghasilkan parameter antena yang lebih akurat. Antena yagi ini kemudian akan dihubungkan dengan access point yang disetup sebagai client untuk menerima sinyal dari transmitter dan router sebagai proses routing agar user di Perumahan Dosen dapat mengakses wifi tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian MMANA-GAL antena yagi dengan frekuensi 2400 MHz, diperoleh Standing Wave Ratio (SWR) sebesar 1.16 dan Penguatan (Gain) sebesar 14,59 dB.

This study presents the proposed testbed implementation for the Advanced Technology Training Center (ADTEC) Batu Pahat, one of Malaysia’s industrial training institutes. The objectives of this study are to discover the issues regarding network congestion, propose a suitable method to overcome such issues, and generate output data for the comparison of the results before and after the proposed implementation. The internet is directly connected to internet service providers (ISPs), which neither impose any rule nor filter the traffic components; all connections comply on the basis of the base effort services provided by the ISP. The congestion problem has been raised several times and the information technology (IT) department has been receiving complaints about poor and sometimes intermittent internet connection. Such issues provide some ideas for a possible solution because the end client is a human resource core business. In addition, budget constraints contribute to this problem. After a comprehensive review of related literature and discussion with experts, the implementation of quality of service through add-on rules, such as traffic policing on network traffic, was proposed. The proposed testbed also classified the traffic. Results show that the proposed testbed is stable. After the implementation of the generated solution, the IT department no longer receives any complaints, and thus fulfills the goal of having zero internet connection issues.

Currently, local area network (LAN) is commonplace in the Nigerian tertiary institutions and can be a good platform for distributing and disseminating instructional materials. Thus, this paper proposes to improve the quality of academics through online provision of learning resources based on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS); wired and wireless access to contents; and availability of the system 24/7. The system is based on third party software or FOSS called phpBB and Windows 2003 Server Active Directory Services. Both are installed and configured on an intranet. It has a discussion forum which is accessed through Hypertext Transfer Protocol using a web browser; and directory services for files/folders upload and download based on a set of privilege levels in Discretionary Access Control List (DACL) as a way of improving security. The system leads to the development of a virtual campus in Covenant University. Also, it has helpedimprove the quality of teaching by making lecture notes availably on the intranet, lecturer/studentinteraction, accessibility to teaching materials and reduce student’s idle time. The system helps in no small measure to correct the problems plaguing the educational sector such as examination malpractice, decline standards of education and cultism, as students are gainfully engaged in academic and social activities. The creation of a virtual campus would enhance the level of e-participation, and e-readiness of the graduate for the employment market. In particular, it bridges the divide between the developed and the developing nations.

Network security is designed to protect the integrity, confidentiality and accessibility of computer networks and data using both software and hardware technologies. Every person, including organization requires a degree of network security solutions in place to protect it from the ever-growing landscape of cyber threats in the wild today.  This paper aims to design and implement TorVPN as an access point using Raspberry Pi in enhancing security and privacy in Local Area Network (LAN).  This access point was implemented by using the combination of The Onion Router (Tor) and Virtual Private Network (VPN) services. Then, the graphical user interface application was developed to assist and facilitate the user to access the network securely without having the difficulties to configure and install any software. To determine the effectiveness of the proposed work, there were two experiments involved in this study. Firstly, the confidentiality test which to verify its privacy in keeping the information securely. Secondly, the performance test of the Internet connectivity in terms of ping, download and upload speed. The encourage results was expected as the confidentiality tested on the TorVPN access point network has shown the positive outcome by securing client’s Internet data packet. While, the Internet connectivity is not stable enough, when the client’s IP address changed in the network. Hence, the combination VPN and Tor service using Raspberry Pi as an access point inside the LAN is suitable and secure the information in the network, but do not suggest for user who wants a good Internet connectivity.

Perkembangan Gigabit Ethernet mengalami peningkatan yang cukup pesat. Di Universitas Lampung sendiri telah menggunakan teknologi Gigabit Ethernet sebagai backbone karena mampu mentransmisikan data yang besar serta berkecepatan tinggi. Dengan adanya teknologi Gigabit Ethernet ini, diharapkan peningkatan kualitas intranet yang ada di Universitas Lampung semakin baik kedepannya.Implementasi dari jaringan intranet dengan teknologi Gigabit Ethernet ini perlu diketahui kinerjanya. Pada penelitian ini digunakan metode Design Science Research (DSR) yang memiliki 6 tahapan yaitu identifikasi masalah dan motivasi, menetapkan objek solusi, desain dan pengembangan, demonstrasi, evaluasi, dan pelaporan hasil. Analisa ilmiah ini dilakukan dengan pengukuran terhadap trafik dari jaringan Local Area Netwok (LAN). Parameter yang diukur dan dianalisa adalah bandwidth, delay, jitter, dan packet loss dengan pemberian beban berupa paket data pada TCP dan UDP untuk melihat karakteristik dari jaringan tersebut dengan menggunakan software Jperf dan Wireshark guna melihat baik atau buruknya kualitas dari jaringan intranet Unila. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu dapat dikategorikan “Baik” berdasarkan acuan standar ITU-T G.114.Kata kunci: Jperf, Wireshark, Quality of Service, Gigabit Ethernet, DSR, ITU-T G.114.

In this paper, a hybrid of T-dipole and quasi-Yagi antenna is presented for using in dual-band Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) access point. The antenna is made up of combination of T-dipole and quasi-Yagi antenna structures, which are distinctly designed to operate at 2.4 and 5.5 GHz frequency bands. A simply integrated balun that consists of a curved microstrip line and a circular slot to allow broadband characteristic is used to feed the antenna. The final antenna design presents measured bandwidths (RL ≤ − 10 dB) of 2.35 – 2.55 GHz and 4.30 – 6.56 GHz which cover completely the two bands of WLAN. Simulated and measured results of peak gain and radiation patterns in both E- and H-plane validate potential of the design.
