IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT THROUGH TEAM GAMES TOURNAMENT

This study attempted to improve the students’ reading comprehensionachievement in descriptive text through Team Games Tournament (TGT) method.This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of theresearch was class IX SMP PAB 10 Medan Estate which consisted of 25 students.The research was conducted in two cycles and the first cycle consisted of fourmeetings the second cycle consisted of two meetings. The instruments forcollecting the data were quantitative data (reading evaluation) and qualitative data(diary note, observation sheet and interview sheet). Based on reading scores,students’ score kept improving in every evaluation. In the test I the mean was65,33, in the test II the mean was 71,72 and the test III the mean was 84,54.Basedon diary note, observation sheet and interview sheet, it was found that teachinglearningprocess ran well. Students were active, enthusiastic, and interested inreading. The result of the research showed that Team Games Tournament (TGT)method significantly improved students’ achievement in reading comprehensionespecially in reading descriptive text.

The objective of this study was to investigate whether the application of Taba model improve the students’ achievement in Reading Comprehension. This study was an classroom action research. The subject of this study was class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Bandar which consisted of 32 students. The study was conducted in two cycles, cycle I consisted of three meetings and cycle II consisted of three meetings. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data (reading comprehension test) and qualitative data (observation sheert, and questionnaire sheet). Based on reading comprehension scores, students’ score kept improving in every evaluation and based on the observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet it was found that teaching and learning process ran well. Students could enlarge their thinking process. The result of this study showed that the Taba Model improved the students’ achievement in reading comprehension.   Keyword: reading comprehension, taba model, classroom action research.

This study deals with improving students’ reading comprehension through Two Stay – Two Stray Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIIIC MTs. Lab. IKIP Al- Wasliyah Medan which consisted of 34 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and every cycle consisted of four meetings and two meetings. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data (multiple choice test) and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheet, and interview). In test I, the mean score was 63.28. in test II, the mean score was 67.96. and in test III the mean score was 72.96. It can be concluded that Two Stay – Two Stray Strategy could improve students’ reading comprehension.

This research aimed at finding out whether Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy improves students’ reading comprehension or not. The research was a classroom action research. The data collected through quantitative and qualitative approach. Quantitative data was gained from the result of pre-test and post-test from reading test. Meanwhile, qualitative data was gained from the result of observation sheets toward students’ and teachers’ activity. The instruments used by the researcher were test and observation sheet. The finding of the research showed that the strategy Listen-Read-Discuss improve the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of students from pre-test, post-test one, and post-test two. The mean score of pre-tests was 64.46 (50%), there were eight students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 75.35 (67%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 82.14 (89%), twenty-five students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).

This study concerned with the improvement of students’ achievement in writing descriptive text by applying Questioning technique. The objective of this study was to discover whether questioning technique could significantly improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. It was conducted by using classroom action research which was carried out in two cycles in six meetings. The subject of the research was class VIII-1 SMP Negeri 2 Lima Puluh. The number of the students was 30. The instruments for collecting data were writing tests as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, questionnaire sheet as qualitative data. Based on the students’ writing test, the students’ score was improved in every test. In the first test, the mean score was 59.86. In the second test, the mean score was 67.80. In the last test, the mean score of the students was 74.63. In the line with the data, it was showed that questioning technique significantly improved students’ achievement in writing descriptive text.

The objective of this study is to find out whether Brainstorming Technique can improve students’ Achievement in speaking. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of this research was the second year students of SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 3 Medan. The research was conducted in two cycles. The first cycle was three meetings and the second cycle was two meetings. The instruments for collecting data used speaking test for quantitative data and used diary notes, questionnaires sheet, interview and observation sheet for qualitative data. Based on the speaking test result, the students’ score kept improving in every test. In orientation test, the mean score was 47,8. In the test of cycle 1 the mean score was 59,2 and the mean score in the test of cycle 2 was 70,1. In line with the data, it was found that the Brainstorming technique can improve students’ speaking achievement.

This study deals with the improvement of the students’ achievement by using Outline technique. This research was conducted by applying classroom action research in two cycles. The subject of this research was one of a class in the first year student of SMU Yayasan Pendidikan Sultan Iskandar Muda. There were 35 students that participated in this research. The quantitative and qualitative data were gahtered in administrating  writing test and diary notes. The result of quantitative data obtained that the score of the students inproved from cycle I to cycle II which the mean of the pre-test was 70.6, the test of cycle I was 75.8, and the test of cycle II was 85,2. The result of the quanlitative data described that the using of the Outline technique help to improve the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph.

This research aims to: (1) describe and explain the process of speaking ability by picture series media of the students in B1 group at Bustanul Athfal Aisyiyah Keniten Ponorogo in academic year 2017-2018, (2) describe and explain the result of speaking ability by picture series media of the students in B1 group at Bustanul Athfal Aisyiyah Keniten Ponorogo in academic year 2017-2018. The picture series media chosen because it can to train of language skill and expression skill the child (speaking and telling story). The type of this research was classroom action research with Kemmis and Mc Taggart model. The subject of this research was the students of B1 group at Bustanul Athfal Aisyiyah Keniten Ponorogo consisting of 20 students. The data technique were collected by using observation, documentation and interview. Data analysis of this research used the qualitative data and quantitative data. The success indicator in this action research it said success when percentage of speaking ability of the students were 80%. Based on the result of the research show the speaking ability by the picture series able to improve the speaking ability of the students in B1 group at Bustanul Athfal Aisyiyah Keniten Ponorogo in academic year 2017-2018. It showed by the mean percentage of speaking ability by the picture series in pra cycle that have a good criteria that is 15%. In the first cycles percentage of speaking ability by the picture series that have a good criteria that is 30%. In the second cycle percentage of speaking ability by the picture series that have a good criteria increase to 85%. It shows the classroom action research it says success, because the percentage of speaking ability by the picture series of the students get success indicator that is 80%.

ABSTRACT This study deals with improvement students’ achievement in reading comprehension through Think Pair Share Technique (TPS). This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class X-B SMA Parulian 2 Medan which consists of 38 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consists of three meetings. The instrument for collecting data were quantitative data (reading comprehension test) and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheets, and interview sheet). Based on reading comprehension score, students’ score kept improving in every test. In orientation test the mean score was 62.50, in cycle I the mean of writing score was 70.52, in cycle II the mean of reading comprehension score was 80.13. Based on diary notes, observation sheets and interview sheet, it was found that teaching learning process ran well. Students were active and interested in reading comprehension. The result of the research showed that Think Pair Share Technique (TPS) can improve students’ achievement in reading comprehension. Key Words: Reading Comprehension, Think Pair Share Technique(TPS)

The result shows that the strategy be able to improve the students’ reading comprehension in report text. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of students from pre-test, post-test one, and post-test two. The mean score of pre-test was 69.5 (35%), there were seven students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 72.2 (60%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 78.25 (85%),  seventeen students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).
