In this paper, an integrated simulation optimization model for the assignment problems is developed. An effective algorithm is developed to evaluate and analyze the back-end stored simulation results. This paper proposes simulation tool SIMASI (Simulation of assignment models) to simulate assignment models. SIMASI is a tool which simulates and computes the results of different assignment models. This tool is programmed in DOT.NET and is based on analytical approach to guide optimization strategy. Objective of this paper is to provide a user friendly simulation tool which gives optimized assignment model results. Simulation is carried out by providing the required values of matrix for resource and destination requirements and result is stored in the database for further comparison and study. Result is obtained in terms of the performance measurements of classical models of assignment system. This simulation tool is interfaced with an optimization procedure based on classical models of assignment system. The simulation results are obtained and analyzed rigorously with the help of numerical examples.

To overcome various practical restrictive assumptions, SIMIN provides values for a number of performance measurements. This tool is programmed in JAVA and is based on analytical approach to guide optimization strategy. Objective of this paper is to provide a user friendly simulation tool which gives optimized inventory model results. Simulation is carried out by providing the required values of input parameters and result is stored in the database for further comparison and study. Result is obtained in terms of the performance measurements of classical models of inventory system. Simulation results are stored in excel file and it also provides graphical results to compare the outcome. This simulation tool is interfaced with an optimization procedure based on classical models of inventory system. With the specified examples, the simulation results are obtained and analyzed rigorously. The result shows that input parameters, total system costs and capacity should be considered in the design of a practical system.

An integrated simulation tool called Video Delivery Simulation Framework over Vehicular Networks (VDSF-VN) is presented. This framework is intended to allow users to conduct experiments related to video transmission in vehicular networks by means of simulation. Research on this topic requires the use of many independent tools, such as traffic and network simulators, intermediate frameworks, video encoders and decoders, converters, platform-dependent scripting languages, data visualisation packages and spreadsheets, and some other tasks are performed manually. The lack of tools necessary to carry out all these tasks in an integrated and efficient way formed the motivation for the development of the VDSF-VN framework. It is managed via two user-friendly applications, GatcomSUMO and GatcomVideo, which allow all the necessary tasks to be accomplished. The first is primarily used to build the network scenario and set up the traffic flows, whereas the second involves the delivery process of the whole video, encoding/decoding video, running simulations, and processing all the experimental results to automatically provide the requested figures, tables and reports. This multiplatform framework is intended to fill the existing gap in this field, and has been successfully used in several experimental tests of vehicular networks.

This paper proposes simulation software QSIM (Queuing Simulation) to simulate queuing models. QSIM is a tool which simulates and compares the results of different queuing models. This tool is programmed in JAVA and is based on analytical approach to guide optimization strategy. In Qsim, Simulation is carried out by providing the inputs for arrival rate, service rate and number of servers and using these values the performance measurement of a particular model is stored in the database for further comparisons and study. Simulation results are stored in excel file and it also provides graphical results to compare the outcome.

A need exists for tools to improve evaluations of the economics of landfill gas recovery. A computer simulation tool is presented. It uses a spreadsheet computer program to calculate the economics for a fixed set of inputs, and a simulation program to consider variations in the inputs. The method calculates the methane generated each year, and estimates the costs and incomes associated with the recovery and sale of the gas. Base case results are presented for a city of 500,000. An uncertainty analysis for a hypothetical case is presented. The simulation results can help an analyst see the key variables affecting the economics of a project.

The popularity of the Power Line Communication (PLC) system has decreased due to significant deficiencies in the technology itself, even though new wire installation is not required. In particular, regarding the request for high-speed throughput to fulfill smart-grid requirements, Broadband Power Line (BPLC) can be considered. This paper approaches PLC technology as an object of simulation experimentation in the Broadband Power Line Communication (BPLC) area. Several experimental measurements in a real environment are also given. This paper demonstrates these experimental simulation results as potential mechanisms for creating a complex simulation tool for various PLC technologies focusing on communication with end devices such as sensors and meters. The aim is to demonstrate the potential and limits of BPLC technology for implementation in Smart Grids or Smart Metering applications.

In the UK, the Puffin crossing has provision to extend pedestrian green time for those who take longer to cross. However, even at such a pedestrian friendly facility, the traffic signal control is usually designed to minimise vehicle delay while providing the crossing facility. This situation is rather contrary to the current policies to encourage walking. It is this inequity that has prompted the need to re-examine the traffic control of signalised crossings to provide more benefit to both pedestrians and vehicles. In this context, this paper explores the possibility of implementing an Upstream Detection strategy at a Puffin crossing to provide a user friendly crossing. The study has been carried out by simulating a mid-block Puffin crossing for various detector distances and a number of combinations of pedestrian and traffic flows. This paper presents the simulation results and recommends the situations at which Upstream Detection would be suitable.

In this paper, a hybrid numerical simulation tool is introduced and performed for GaInN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with metal-embedded nanostructure to theoretically predict external quantum efficiency (EQE), which composed of finite-difference time-domain, rigorous coupled wave analysis, and ray tracing. The advantage is that the proposed method provides results supported by sufficient physical background within a reasonable calculation time. From the simulation results, the EQE of LED with Ag-nanoparticles embedded nanostructure is expected to be enhanced by as high as ∼1.6 times the conventional LED device in theory.
