AbstractAugmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), a kingdom-of-the-art technology for superimpos­ing information onto the real world, have recently started to have an effect on our everyday lives. In addition, AR and VR have shown a great contribution to advanced construction management in recent years. However, a comprehensive critical review of AR and VR technolo­gies in construction management is absent in the liter­ature. This study provides a comprehensive review of a summary of using potential opportunities of AR and VR to solve a variety of construction management issues effectively and efficiently. This study found that AR is successfully used in construction project scheduling, progress tracking, worker training, safety management, time and cost management, and quality and defects management. VR is effectively used as a visualization tool, worker training technology, safety management tool, and quality and defects management tool. In addi­tion, AR and VR are used for developing a network that allows the possibility of having conferences with those who are geographically far off from each other or the construction site. This study could help to explore the potential fields of using AR and VR technologies in the construction industry effectively as advance time- and cost-saving profitable tools.

Since the reform and opening up, Chinese economic and social development has undergone great changes, and the people’s living standards have improved markedly. For the national economy, the engineering construction is not only a carrier for specific economic tasks, but also a driving force for rapid and sustained economic development. With the continuous expansion of the scale of construction projects, safety management problems of construction projects are constantly exposed. How to effectively avoid accidents has become an important issue to be solved urgently in the construction industry. This paper mainly evaluates human factors in the process of construction project management, such as workers’ proficiency, workers’ safety awareness, technical workers’ quality, and workers’ emergency capacity, with the purpose of helping China’s construction projects proceed smoothly. In this research, we provide a multiple attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) technique based on Pythagorean 2-tuple linguistic numbers (P2TLNs) and the VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I KOmpromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method for evaluating the human factors of construction projects. P2TLNs are used to represent the performance assessments of decision makers. Relying on a P2TLWA operator, P2TLWG operator, and the essential VIKOR method, a general framework is established. An application is presented to test the validity of the new method, and a comparative analysis with two algorithms and the P2TL-TODIM method is illustrated with detail.

The article briefly discusses the content and terms of construction project management. It identifies the main problems of construction management and discusses ways to solve those using multi-criteria methods. Well-performed management is one of the critical factors which leads to the success of any significant sustainable project. Construction project management consists of setting goals and defining user requirements, project constraints, and resources needed. This paper aims to create a practically useful model. The paper presents a comprehensive set of criteria, which led to the creation of a decision-making model for construction management, which was applied to a Turkish case study. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method and the Expert Choice computer program were used for calculations.

The time management for a construction project can better justify by using optimization methods. Nowadays many computerized software are used to explore, to design, to analyze, and to solve different engineering problems. Construction management is not only a concept to manage a project work under the guidelines of 5M aspects, while it is actually a whole of initialization and termination of the particular construction project work. This concept can better understand by incorporating optimization techniques to find feasible solutions of different situations arise during the execution of an activity. An activity may be a matter of complication if it is started without planning. The worse results of activity reflected at end of the work in the form of uneconomical achievement. Thus, to overcome these unforeseen situations, it may be suitable to solve them using optimization methods and get an optimal result. Construction management or construction project management (CPM) is the overall planning, coordination, and control of a project from beginning to completion. CPM is aimed at meeting a clients requirement in order to produce a functionally and financially viable project. CPM is project management that applies to the construction sector. The construction industry is composed of five sectors: residential, commercial, civil, industrial, and environmental. A construction manager holds the same responsibilities and completes the same processes in each sector. All that separates a construction manager in one sector from one in another is the knowledge of the construction site. This may include different types of equipment, materials, subcontractors, and possibly locations. A contractor is assigned to a construction project once the design has been completed by the architect or is still in progress. This is done by going through a bidding process with different contractors. The contractor is selected by using one of the three selection methods: low-bid selection, best-value selection, or qualifications-based selection. A construction manager should have the ability to handle public safety, time management, decision making, mathematics, and human resources.
