In recent decades women have had substantial advances in access to higher education and the labor market, but these achievements were not reflected in the high ranking of companies. The participation of women in executive positions in the advisory board of large corporations in Brazil and in the world is still incipient. In this sense factors such as patriarchy, male chauvinism, sexism, among other advances not allow the presence of women at the top of large companies, even when this presence is associated with better performance. Thus, work on the assumption that thinking gender diversity of public policies involves ethical issues and inclusion strategies going performance improvement field and value creation, while the completion of ideas and attitudes from the specificities of each gender can contribute to economic and social development of the company. Thus the aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between corporate value and the presence of women in high-ranking. Therefore, we collected data of companies listed on the B3 and identified those with the presence of women on the board and the executive board, checking the differences between them from non-parametric tests. It is still employed multivariate data analysis from the linear regression and probit regression. The results suggest a positive and statistically significant relationship between firm value and the presence of women on the board. The results show evidence that the inclusion of women on the board in addition to ensuring diversity, meet precepts of ethics, equality, social responsibility, contributing to the better performance of firms and generating shareholder value.

Despite decades of research, the relationship between the quality of science and the value of inventions has remained unclear. We present the result of a large-scale matching exercise between 4.8 million patent families and 43 million publication records. We find a strong positive relationship between the quality of the scientific contributions referenced in patents and the value of the respective inventions. We rank patents by the quality of the science to which they are linked. Strikingly, high-ranking patents are twice as valuable as low-ranking patents, which, in turn, are about as valuable as patents without a direct science link. We show this core result for various science quality and patent value measures. The effect of science quality on patent value remains relevant even when science is linked indirectly through other patents. Our findings imply that what is considered excellent within the science sector also leads to outstanding outcomes in the technological and commercial realms.

This article offers a case study of the relationship between early Southern Song literati and the chief councilor Qin Gui (1090-1155) through an analysis of Zheng Gangzhong’s (1088-1154) epistolary network. It shows how Zheng, deputy pacification commissioner of Sichuan between 1142 and 1147, attempted to build good rapport with the councilor’s associates through correspondence. As suggested, it was essential for heads of regional governments like Zheng Gangzhong, who was vulnerable to accusations of abuse of authority, to ingratiate themselves with senior officials surrounding Qin Gui if they wished to enjoy a stable career. This group of senior officials, despite being constantly in flux because of Qin Gui’s efforts to protect his leadership, facilitated Qin’s prolonged dominance by linking him to high-ranking officials like Zheng Gangzhong without exposing him to the charge of promoting factionalism.

Abstract This article examines the post-war conflict of colonial retention that the Netherlands engaged in with Indonesia, and the invasion of Yogyakarta on 19 December 1948. While arresting high-ranking members of the Republican government, Dutch troops seized papers that were left behind. These documents were not returned to Indonesia until nearly 50 years later. By studying the archival collection, fluctuations in the relationship between Indonesia and the Netherlands are revealed. The seized archives relate directly to the building of a new nation; their history reflects the history of Indonesia.

<p>In the end of Suharto's authority, he began to embrace the power of Islam; he realized the position of Muslims was very important and strategic. While some high-ranking military, like LB Moerdani felt unhappy with business built by Soeharto’s family. Suharto built a new political power through the ICMI (Indonesian Muslim Scholar) organization. The emergence of ICMI has been confronted by much of the military officers, they assessed that ICMI shaped sectarian mindset, Gus Dur as NU leader also did not approve the establishment of ICMI. ICMI was chaired by BJ Habibie who at that time had a special affinity with Suharto that made ICMI has the most important role in Indonesian and clout. At the end of Suharto's power, he embraced the power of the Muslim Civilians, Reviews such as ICMI and Muhammadiyah organization. He tried to minimize the political dependence on the military. Life in social groups, while potentially providing social benefits, inevitably leads to conflict among group members. In many social mammals, such conflicts lead to the formation of dominance hierarchies, where high-ranking individuals consistently outcompete other group members. Given that competition is a fundamental tenet of the theory of natural selection, it is generally assumed that high-ranking individuals have higher reproductive success than lower-ranking individuals. Previous reviews have indicated large variation across populations on the potential effect of dominance rank on reproductive success in female mammals. Here, we perform a meta-analysis based on 444 effect sizes from 187 studies on 86 mammal species to investigate how life-history, ecology and sociality modulate the relationship between female dominance rank and fitness. We show that (1) dominance rank is generally positively associated with reproductive success, independent of the approach different studies have taken to answer this question; (2) life-history mechanisms mediate the relationship between rank and reproductive success, with higher effects of dominance rank on reproductive output than on survival, particularly in species with high reproductive investment; (3) the fitness benefits to high-ranking females appear consistent across ecological conditions, and (4) instead the social environment consistently mitigates rank differences on reproductive success by modulating female competition.

Two experiments investigated the effects of age, incentives, and class-standing on frequency of self-reinforcement (SR) in children. In Exp. I children in classes rewarded themselves for anticipating E's response correctly, when chances for successful guessing were near zero. Younger children gave more inappropriate SRs, as did children who were rewarded with candy, and others who also observed a model's self-rewards. Children who were ranked in the lower half of their classes exceeded high-ranking Ss in self-rewards in the candy and model groups. In Exp. II, SR was taken for correct responding after a simple partially learned visual discrimination in individual sessions. Low-ranking Ss performed equally well as high ranking Ss but took more undeserved self-rewards Incorrect SRs correlated 0.45 in Ss across Exps. I and II. The relationship of age, class-standing, and tendency to take undeserved self-reinforcements was discussed.

A review is given of information on the galactic-centre region obtained from recent observations of the 21-cm line from neutral hydrogen, the 18-cm group of OH lines, a hydrogen recombination line at 6 cm wavelength, and the continuum emission from ionized hydrogen. Both inward and outward motions are important in this region, in addition to rotation. Several types of observation indicate the presence of material in features inclined to the galactic plane. The relationship between the H and OH concentrations is not yet clear, but a rough picture of the central region can be proposed.
