Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare cause of primary hyperparathyroidism. It may be suspected based on severe clinical signs, significant laboratory findings, and the tumor size. High-resolution ultrasonography with Doppler imaging has become the principal imaging method in the preoperative diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism. The ultrasound finding is not specific, but three of the described pictures are different from the typical appearance of benign adenoma of the thyroid gland and were suspicious in the context of clinical findings. According to the ultrasound criteria, one finding was benign and only the histological examination revealed carcinoma.

Diabetic retinopathy is the most common cause of vision loss among people with diabetes and a leading cause of blindness among working-age adults in India. It is a form of microangiopathy, and is the most common ocular complication seen in diabetic patients. Diabetic retinopathy progresses from non proliferative to proliferative retinopathy. The non proliferative retinopathy is the milder form and it is reversible. As the progression to proliferative retinopathy happens, the patients are symptomatic and become irreversible. Vascular changes and subsequent ocular hemodynamic changes are critical events in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy. Colour doppler imaging is one of the most widely used and well-established techniques for assessing ocular blood flow velocities in the retro bulbar vessels. This is a non-invasive, painless imaging method with highly reproducibility. Estimation of orbital blood flow velocity from colour doppler imaging of the ophthalmic artery and central retinal artery is a technique offering great potential for the identification of early retinopathy in diabetic patients.

AbstractWe present spot activity of the K2V pre-main-sequence star PW And based on the high-resolution spectroscopic data obtained at Xinglong station and BOAO in 2005 November and December. Using the Least-Squares Deconvolution method, we have derived time series of composite profiles of PW And with high signal to noise ratio. These have been used to reconstruct its starspot pattern via the Doppler imaging method. The result shows that intermediate to high-latitude spots are the dominant features and weak low-latitude spots also appear. Comparing Doppler images from two data subsets, it can be found that almost no difference between two images exists except the small position evolution of weak low-latitude spots, which suggests that the intermediate to high-latitude spots have longer lifetimes than one month, and the low-latitude spots have shorter lifetimes.

Perforator flaps have become one of the leading procedures in microsurgical tissue transfer. Individual defects require a tailored approach to guarantee the most effective treatment. A thorough understanding of the individual vascular anatomy and the location of prominent perforators is of utmost importance and usually requires invasive angiography or at least acoustic Doppler exploration. In this study, we aimed at evaluating different non-invasive imaging modalities as possible alternatives for perforator location detection. After a cooling phase, we performed thermal, hyperspectral and Laser Doppler imaging and visually evaluated a possible detection of the perforator for a period of five minutes with an image taken every minute. We identified the most prominent perforator of the deep inferior epigastric artery by handheld acoustic Doppler in 18 patients. The detected perforator locations were then correlated. Eighteen participants were assessed with six images each per imaging method. We could show a positive match for 94.44%, 38.89%, and 0% of patients and 92.59%, 25.93%, and 0% of images for the methods respectively compared to the handheld acoustic Doppler. Sex, age, abdominal girth, and BMI showed no correlation with a possible visual detection of the perforator in the images. Therefore, thermal imaging can yield valuable supporting data in the individualized procedure planning. Future larger cohort studies are required to better assess the full potential of modern handheld thermal imaging devices.
