Unprecedented challenges arehas been facinging by the traditional industrial design methods, shortening the product development cycle and improving design efficiency has become an important issue for designers, various kinds of new design methods have thus emerged, among which the Design Professional Knowledgebase is the very effective one. The goal of this research is to collect a large quantity of information about product presentation to establish a professional knowledge base – the Product Presentation Database, through which we explored new thinking about industrial design configuration on the one hand, and on the other, designers can refer to this database for lots of information about product design to improve design efficiency greatly. This document explains and demonstrates how to prepare your camera-ready manuscript for Trans Tech Publications. The best is to read these instructions and follow the outline of this text. The text area for your manuscript must be 17 cm wide and 25 cm high (6.7 and 9.8 inches, resp.). Do not place any text outside this area. Use good quality, white paper of approximately 21 x 29 cm or 8 x 11 inches (please do not change the document setting from A4 to letter). Your manuscript will be reduced by approximately 20% by the publisher. Please keep this in mind when designing your figures and tables etc.

This paper offers an advanced conceptualization of what the future of design residencies in museums could look like. It details two co-design workshops devised to engage with people who would be most affected by a new residency model: one was held with past residents and members of staff at the Design Museum in London; the other was held as an exploratory workshop with a diverse group of designers from or based in Scotland, together with members of staff from V&A Museum of Design Dundee.  For both, the overall aim is the same: that the groups use human-centred design methods to ideate collective solutions for a future residency.  By combining the propositions from these co-design workshops possible solutions (i.e. concept development) are further developed and described with emphasis given to how this can have wider relevance in design management and affiliated research.

This paper introduces empathic design as a framework and a strategy that can be adopted by the emerging field of experience design (XD) to create meaningful experiences connected with people’s lives and needs. The paper presents the rationale behind the emergence of empathic design, the traits that characterize this approach to design, a collection of empathic design methods and practices, and a critical discussion of the limitations of empathy in design. Methodologically, this paper is based on a systematic literature review on empathic design, human-centred design, and empathy, which is synthesized and focused its application in experience design. Ultimately, this paper intends to contribute to the broader discussion of how traditional design practices are adapting and evolving to respond to new realities, and how new design paradigms are needed to address the very complex challenges that we face in the 21st century.
