This study analyzes the factors influencing gambier productivity, analyzes the technical efficiency of gambier farming, and analyzes the factors affecting gambier farming's technical efficiency. This research was conducted in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, a gambier production center in West Sumatra. Data were analyzed using the Cobb Douglas stochastic frontier production function. The results showed that the factors that significantly influenced gambier's productivity were labor, NPK fertilizer, plant age, number of trees, varieties, and technology. The number of labor, fertilizer factor, plant age, number of trees, and seedling varieties had a positive effect on gambier productivity. In contrast, NPK fertilizer and technology had a negative impact on gambier productivity. The technical efficiency level of gambier farming started from 0.25 to 0.99 with an average level of 0.76. It means that farmers are technically efficient but can still increase gambier productivity if they use production inputs appropriately and adequately. Factors that significantly influence technical efficiency are age, farming experience, and technology. Older farmers will have a higher level of technical efficiency compared to young age. The lower the farming experience, the more technically efficient the farmer is. Farmers who use the hydraulic jack system technology are more efficient than farmers who use the jack system technology

This study aims to (1) identify the factors affecting the production of oil palm cultivation business by the smallholders and (2) identify the technical level as well as factors influencing business inefficiency of oil palm cultivation by the smallholders  in Air Sugihan Sub District of Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatera Province.  This research uses the  basic method of analytical descriptive method.  The data were collected by way of observation and direct interviews in the field guided by a questionnaire.  The research location was determined purposively, that is in Pangkalan Damai Village, Air Sugihan Sub-district, Ogan Komering Ilir Municipality, South Sumatera Province. Sampling was conducted using non probabilistic sampling method (purposive sampling).  The research investigated 79 smallholder farmers of oil palm cultivation in Pangkalan Damai village of Air Sugihan Sub-district, Ogan Komering Ilir Municipality, South Sumatera Province.  On the basis of the analysis, it is revealed  that (1) the factors affecting the increase of palm production were labor, land area, TSP fertilizer, NPK fertilizer, organic fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides which also have an effect on decreasing  palm production. (2) Palm plantation business was technically efficient with the average technical level of smallholder palm farmers in Air Sugihan Sub-district of Ogan Komering Ilir Municipality of 0.86090.  Factors that decrease the technical inefficiency in smallholder palm cultivation in Air Sugihan Sub-district of Ogan Komering Ilir Regency were farmers’ education level.  This information can be used by the goverment to improve technical efficiency through education in the form of counseling and training to increase production.

Temanggung regency is the largest garlic producer region in Central Java Province. However, its productivity is still low compared to the other regencies since garlic farmers have not achieved technical efficiency and limitary garlic farming technology.  Hence, it is necessary to investigate whether the input application in the process of garlic production has been at technically efficient level or not. This research aims to determine factors affecting garlic production, the level of technical efficiency and technical inefficiency of garlic farming in Temanggung Regency. The location of the research was determined by using purposive sampling. The sample selection used simple random sampling method with  60 garlic farmers as the respondent. The result shows that production factors such as land area, garlic seed, ZK fertilizer, pesticide and the level of application of garlic GAP-SOP have significant effect on garlic production. The average value of farmer’s technical efficiency is 0,811. It means that respondents in this study have been technically efficient. The socio-economic factors affecting technical inefficiency are the age, the number of worker in a family, the level of education and participation rate within farmer group. The improvement effort of technical efficiency of garlic farming can be done by optimizing the contribution of farmer group as a facility to access information. Therefore, it is able to improve the skills and knowledge of farmers to farm garlic.

The present study was undertaken to find out the technical efficiency and factors affecting inefficiency of wheat production in Dinajpur District of Bangladesh. The data were collected from 01 July to 30 September 2004. The range of technical efficiency varies from 40% to 99% and the average was 70.33%. Farmers with optimum sowing and optimum harvest were technically more efficient than the farmers with late sowing. In all farms technical efficiency was much higher for the farmers who use sandy loam soil for wheat production than the farmers who did not use sandy loam soil. There was a positive relationship between the educational level and technical efficiency of wheat practicing farmers. The farmers who contacted frequently with extension workers were technically more efficient than who contacted less with extension workers. Therefore, maintaining of optimum sowing and harvesting time, use of sandy loam soil, high level of farming experience and education are important factors for obtaining maximum achievable yield. Key Words: Technical efficiency, wheat growers, optimum sowing and harvest. doi:10.3329/bjar.v33i3.1595 Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 33(3) : 363-373, September 2008

The objective of this research is to analyze the factors affecting the tourism supply and its efficiency of the tourism supply for countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The method uses the stochastic frontier with Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) analyzed by Frontier software. 4.1. The data were collected from panel data from 2010 - 2019 for 23 countries. The results of the study revealed that 1) Tourism investment from the private sector and timing factors positively affect the tourism supply of countries in the Asia-Pacific region, while the tourism labor value factor has a negative effect on the tourism supply of countries in the region 2) For the technical performance measurement of tourism supply in each sub-region in the Asia-Pacific region, the average is between 0.387 and 0.657. East Asia shows the highest technical efficiency in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau and Mongolia while South Asia has the lowest technical efficiency in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, respectively.

Purpose This paper aims to evaluate the impact of the subsidies established by Measure 123 of the Rural Development Policy on the productivity of a sample of agri-food and forestry companies in the region of Asturias over the period 2006-2009. Design/methodology/approach The authors estimate a stochastic frontier function which allows subsidies to be considered as affecting both the level of technical efficiency and technical progress. Findings The results show that while subsidies have a positive effect on the technical progress of companies in the agri-food industry, for the forestry industry, the effect materializes as an improvement in technical efficiency. Additionally, other factors affecting either, technical progress and technical efficiency were identified. Originality/value This study adopts a model that allows the separate identification of the effect of subsidies on the level of efficiency, on the one hand, and on the technical progress, on the other.
