The lateral load-resisting system of high-rise buildings in regions of low and moderate seismicity and strong wind such as the typhoon in the Korean peninsula considers the wind load as the governed lateral force so that the practical structural engineer tends to skip the evaluation against the seismic load. This study is to investigate wind-designed steel diagrid buildings located in these regions and check the possibility of the elastic design of them out. To this end, first, the diagrid high-rise buildings were designed to satisfy the wind serviceability criteria specified in KBC 2016. Then, the response spectrum analyses were performed under various slenderness ratio and wind exposures. The analyses demonstrated the good seismic performance of these wind-designed diagrid high-rise buildings because of the significant over-strength induced by the lateral load-resisting system of high-rise buildings. Also, the analysis results showed that the elastic seismic design process of some diagrid high-rise buildings may be accepted based on slenderness ratios in all wind exposures.

The earthquake that occurred on 7 December 2016 with a magnitude of 6.4 SR in Pidie Jaya District, Aceh has resulted in many material and immaterial losses. Where many facilities and infrastructure are damaged, buildings are not multi-storey to high-rise buildings. One of them is a residential area around the At-Taqarrub mosque, which is in the Keude area, Trienggading sub-district, Pidie Jaya district. At-Taqarrub Mosque is one of the worship facilities that is heavily damaged and cannot be repaired. In the area only the At-Taqarrub mosque was the only building that collapsed, while the surrounding buildings were still standing with various kinds of damage. This journal is to find out the results of rapid assessment of the level of damage to buildings against structures and building materials around the At-Taqarrub mosque. The method used is the method of mapping and direct survey of the surrounding buildings and then determine the level of damage to the structural components and building architecture. The results of this study indicate various levels of post-earthquake building damage that occur and provide recommendations for buildings damaged in the earthquake in Pidie Jaya in particular and throughout Indonesia in general.

This study concerns with the investigation of the second-order geometric nonlinearity effects of P-Delta analysis on the dynamic response of high rise steel buildings due to deterministic wind load. Linear and nonlinear time history analyses were conducted to analyze different tall steel building models adopted in the study. Five steel building models ranging from 10 to 50 stories were numerically modeled and analyzed using finite element code ETABS (version 16.0.3). Deterministic dynamic wind load per ASCE 7-10 is applied to the buildings as a main lateral load. Comparative study between linear and nonlinear time history analyses reveals that nonlinear time history analysis including P-Delta effects displayed larger values of buildings lateral sway than those of linear time history analysis. Generally, including P-Delta effect in the nonlinear analysis increases the flexibility of the building structure, and thus increases response peak values and that peak values occur at a longer time periods indicating lesser response oscillations. The study recommends that P-Delta effect need to be addressed by any dynamic wind analysis for tall steel buildings with 20 story height or more.
