The point of this study is the thought of Muhammad Abed al-Jabiri about the moral concept in Islam. Al-mashlahah, according to al-Jabiri, is the moral principle of Islam. Al-mashlahah represents the pure principle of Islamic ethics stemming from al-Qur’an and as-Sunnah. This theory based on the principle of utility; good and ugly determined by consequence of the act, non-action itself. Worthwhile action in al-mashlahah category must be relied on universal of syari’at (taking care of religion, soul, clan, properties, and mind). Al-mashlahah woke up above the principle of compatibility between mental activity and texts. Al-mashlahah does not characterizes secular and therefore can be made alternatively to Utilitarianism.

Indonesian is a diverse country with a variety of ethnic, class and religion. The potential for conflict over differences, can lead to disintegration of the nation. Reality is happening in the community, just a lot of conflict fueled by religion. Exclusive attitude of each religion, appears due to improper understanding of the substance of religion. For that we need a new understanding about the attitudes that must be done by humans to the existing plurality. Al-Qur’an as a guide to life, must be understood and interpreted by promoting the moral message of the Koran. This paper seeks to provide a view of the new paradigm of Islamic ethics to other communities (the others) in the context of social life. It aims to establish Islamic worldview (Weltanschauung) is based on the principle of rahmatan lil alamin. By optimizing the formulation methodology contextualist interpretation (contextualist interpretation) that the interpretation of the Koran is not just taking care of the language of the Koran, but also the critical aspects of socio-hostorical period of revelation. In this case means trying to revive the prophetic spirit (Prophethood), or with other languages, what would the Prophet will do and provide solutions, if he lived in the days of the moment. So it was concluded that the ethics of Muslims against the others is the attitude cooperatif in advancing human civilization.

This chapter, which covers the principle of veracity (truth telling), addresses the topic of honesty as an element of the general moral concept of respect for persons. The tension between honest disclosure as a moral principle and the potential for lying to produce benefits is explored. In doing so, the moral justification for lying to benefit the patient or others is explained. Further, the ethical implications of withholding information about care or treatment are discussed. Cases in this chapter focus on the challenges faced by pharmacists when honesty considerations arise in practice: what patients should be told when the pharmacist is not yet sure what the facts are, lying to patients in order to benefit them, lying to patients to benefit others, and disclosure to patients who ask to see their medical records.

Is “human being” a moral concept? I believe it is, which makes me a speciesist. Speciesism violates a moral principle of equality. Peter Singer defines it as “a prejudice or attitude of bias toward the interests of members of one’s own species and against those of members of other species.” He compares it to racism. My goal in this essay is to defend a speciesist attitude or outlook on morality.

The term ‘jihad’ seems to sound horrible to a number of people. The misunderstood terms and practices apparently continue to rise. Nowadays, the so-called ‘virtual jihad’--as clearly stated in The Sunday Guardian Live, Scientific American, Science Direct, etc.--is addressed as referring to a single connotative meaning of violence in Islam. It seems that they conflate the terms ‘jihad’ and ‘terrorism’. This misunderstood concepts of jihad leads to some acts contradicting the true meaning of ‘jihad’ itself. This article attempts to (1) scrutinize misconceptions of ‘virtual jihad’, (2) delve deeper into the moral principle of jihad due to ideal Islamic teachings, as well as (3) ways forward to put into practice of a “peaceful jihad” in a virtual age. Theoretical Approach used in this study mainly employs Teu Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) models of interrelated texts, social cognition, and social contexts. The findings reveal that (1) misconceptions of ‘virtual jihad’ result from a misunderstood concept of ‘jihad’ itself and underlying ideological factors in the view of Van Dijk’s CDA’s texts, social cognition, and social contexts, (2) fundamentally, the moral concept of jihad is to make meritorious struggle in the cause Allah to do good works and repel evil, as well as to reform a civilized society, and (3) the best practices of jihad in this virtual age is supposed to manifest in the enormous efforts of creating “Knowledge Societies” all the way through the advance of digital technologies. As a final point, it is worth highlighting the importance of being critical, as CDA implies, through the lens of objectivity of any deception, propaganda and biased judgment in this disinformation age as well as generating better solutions for peaceful digital societies.

Previous work has shown that sensory pleasure is both the motor and the sign of optimal behaviors aimed at physiological ends. From an evolutionary psychology point of view it may be postulated that mental pleasure evolved from sensory pleasure. Accordingly, the present work tested empirically the hypothesis that pleasure signals efficacious mental activity. In Experiment 1, ten subjects played video-golf on a Macintosh computer. After each hole they were invited to rate their pleasure or displeasure on a magnitude estimation scale. Their ratings of pleasure correlated negatively with the difference par minus performance, i.e., the better the performance the greater the pleasure reported. In Experiments 2 and 3, the pleasure of reading poems was correlated with comprehension, both rated by two groups of subjects, science students and arts students. In the majority of science students pleasure was significantly correlated with comprehension. Only one arts student showed this relationship; this result suggests that the proposed relationship between pleasure and cognitive efficiency is not tautological. Globally, the results support the hypothesis that pleasure is aroused by the same mechanisms, and follows the same laws, in physiological and cognitive mental tasks and also leads to the optimization of performance.
