This study aims to use the Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) approach to measure the mathematical reasoning ability of grade VII students in answering PISA-like mathematics problems on number content in the context of COVID-19. This study employs descriptive research with 34 participants from a junior high school in Palembang, Indonesia. Tests, interviews, and observations were utilized to collect data. The method of analysis adopted is descriptive. Google Meet is used to facilitate learning. Learning the PMRI technique was accomplished in this study by assigning sharing and jumping tasks. That is, assignments for students to discuss with each other have different levels of difficulty, followed by two exam questions. In the context of COVID-19, the test questions are PISA-like maths problems. The results show that students’ average mathematical reasoning skill is 63,037, with mathematical manipulation a common indicator. Most students have exhibited indications for presenting conjectures. However, only a few students have put down indicators for drawing logical conclusions, so drawing logical conclusions is an indicator that students rarely see. Overall, grade VII students' mathematical reasoning skills in answering PISA-like mathematics questions on number material in the context of COVID-19 utilizing the PMRI approach is good since students are used to modeling contextual problems such that mathematical manipulation indicators occur.

The effectiveness comparison of problem solving and problem posing approaches in mathematics learning towards junior high school students AbstractThe aim of this study is to describe: 1) the effectiveness of problem solving approach on mathematical understanding and reasoning ability; 2) the effectiveness of problem posing approach on mathematical understanding and reasoning ability; 3) the comparison effectiveness of polyhedral learning using problem solving approach and problem posing approach on mathematical understanding and reasoning ability of State Junior High School. This study was a quasi experiment. The data were analyzed using one-sample t test, MANOVA test with T2 Hotteling's formula, and t-test with Bonferroni criterion. The results of the study show that: 1) the problem solving approach has an effect on mathematical understanding and reasoning ability; 2) the problem posing approach has an effect on mathematical understanding and reasoning ability; and 3) the problem solving approach is more effective than the problem posing approach on mathematical understanding ability, but the problem solving approach is not more effective in polyhedral learning than the problem posing approach on mathematical reasoning ability of State Junior High. Keywords: problem solving approach, problem posing approach, mathematical understanding ability, and mathematical reasoning ability

This research is motivated by the results of previous research which shows that students' mathematical reasoning ability is not as expected. One of the lessons to improve the ability of mathematical reasoning is inductive learning. The purpose of this research is to know the improvement of students' mathematical reasoning ability as a result of inductive learning. This study is a quasi-experiment that implements two lessons namely inductive learning and conventional learning. Population in this research is a student of the junior high school in Regency of West Bandung. Sampling was done by purposive sampling and obtained two classes as research sample. The research instrument used is the test of mathematical reasoning ability. Based on the result of the analysis, it can be concluded that the improvement of mathematical reasoning ability of students who get inductive learning is better than students who get conventional learning.

The abilities that must be mastered by high school students according to the demands of the 2013 curriculum include reasoning. Students who have good reasoning abilities make it easier to understand mathematics. But in reality there are still many students who have low mathematical reasoning ability, seen when they have difficulty solving math problems. This research objective is to prove the habit of solving open-ended problems that can improve the mathematical reasoning ability of junior high school students based on the level of initial mathematical ability: high, medium, and low. The study used an experimental method with a "One-Group pre-test post-test design". Randomly, selected 77 grade VII students of SMP Negeri in Bekasi as a sample. The prerequisite test shows that each level of data comes from groups that are normally distributed and homogeneous. The results showed normal gain, both overall and level showed improvement. Based on the t test obtained p value of 0.000 < 0.005, meaning this study can prove student habits in solving open-ended problems when learning mathematics on triangles and quadrilateral, can improve students' mathematical reasoning abilities.
