Continuing professional development (CPD) is a lifelong learning approach to maintain and enhance professional competencies. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the pharmacists’ preferred CPD activities and barriers to CPD participation. A survey instrument was distributed to all government pharmacists (N=3876) in Malaysia. The response rate was 29.2 %. The majority of the pharmacists (92%) believed that engaging in CPD would improve their performances in their current role. Almost 90% of the respondents preferred to participate in CPD activities associated with continuing education such as workshops and conferences attendance. Barriers to CPD participation were current job constraints, lack of time, and accessibility in terms of travel and cost. It is important to address these issues before the implementation of mandatory CPD for pharmacists in Malaysia.

To solve the matching problem of the elements in different data collections, an improved coupled metric learning approach is proposed. First, we improved the supervised locality preserving projection algorithm and added the within-class and between-class information of the improved algorithm to coupled metric learning, so a novel coupled metric learning method is proposed. Furthermore, we extended this algorithm to nonlinear space, and the kernel coupled metric learning method based on supervised locality preserving projection is proposed. In kernel coupled metric learning approach, two elements of different collections are mapped to the unified high dimensional feature space by kernel function, and then generalized metric learning is performed in this space. Experiments based on Yale and CAS-PEAL-R1 face databases demonstrate that the proposed kernel coupled approach performs better in low-resolution and fuzzy face recognition and can reduce the computing time; it is an effective metric method.

The paper discusses the introduction of Activity Based Learning for professional issues for undergraduate students in the School of Computing and Communications at Southampton Solent University. Its aim is to assist the students with their final year project and future employability. The use of the university’s learning environment, based on the Moodle open source software as a key component of the Activity Based Learning, the preparation by the students prior to the tutorials, and the group work within the tutorials are described. The views of the students on this approach are discussed. The paper describes how the students become more self reliant and self motivated in their learning approach. This will be of direct benefit to them in maintaining lifelong learning in their future profession.

This research has been conducted to determine the relationship between the attitudes of teachers working in private teaching institutions, preparing students for university exams, and their lifelong learning competencies. In this study correlational survey model has been used. The research universe consists of 286 teachers working in 21 officially registered private teaching institutions in Northern Cyprus in the 2018-2019 academic year. The sample of the study is composed of 185 private teaching institution teachers selected by random sampling method. In the study, attitudes to lifelong learning and lifelong learning adequacy scales were used. As a result of the research, it can be said that teachers working in the private teaching institution have high attitudes towards lifelong learning and good lifelong learning competencies. As the attitudes of teachers regarding the lifelong learning approach increase, their lifelong learning competencies also increase. The attitudes of female and male teachers to the lifelong learning approach, whether full-time or not, and lifelong learning competencies are at the same level. Teachers taking courses in the past year have a higher attitude towards the lifelong learning approach. Keywords: teachers, lifelong learning, Northern Cyprus, private teaching
