Abstract Supporting forces of magnetic bearings are lower than those of mechanical bearings. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes a new three-axis active control magnetic bearing (3-axis AMB) with an asymmetric structure where its rotor is attracted only in one axial direction due to a negative pressure of fluid. Our proposed 3-axis AMB can generate a large suspension force in one axial direction due to the asymmetric structure. The performances of our proposed 3-axis AMB are computed through 3-D finite element analysis.

Recently, the demand for a bio-absorbable coronary stent to promote recovery after an operation has increased. An option for such a stent is one made of a magnesium alloy, which has biodegradable properties. However, magnesium alloys have lower rigidity and lower ductility than other metals; as such, an appropriate stent structure is required to ensure radial rigidity. In this study, design parameters for an AZ31 magnesium alloy stent with sufficient radial rigidity were investigated. The necessary radial rigidity was determined by comparison tests against commercially available stents. The design parameters of the cell struts were selected and the optimum values to achieve high radial rigidity were investigated by means of elastic–plastic finite element analysis. Finally, a trial model stent based on the optimized design parameters was produced. It was confirmed that the model had sufficient radial rigidity, with no fracturing evident during crimping and expansion processes.

Taking a large grid frame in a maintenance hangar of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport as the research object, the construction steps of lifting the grid structure are briefly described, and the static mechanical characteristics, dynamic mechanical characteristics and stability of the large grid frame were studied by using Midas/Civil finite element analysis software, which meets the design and the practical application requirements. Since its first six orders safety factors are greater than 4. The stress state of the nodes at the important supports in the grid is mainly controlled by axial force.

According to magnetic suspension motorized spindle system, high speed motorized spindle system based on bearingless induction motor is presented in this paper. The prototype of high speed motorized spindle system with bearingless induction motor is studied and analyzed by using finite element analysis software Ansoft/Maxwell and Riccati transfer matrix method, and compared with high speed motorized spindle system supported by Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB). The results show that high speed motorized spindle system with bearingless induction motor has distinct advantage of simple and compact structure, which is easier to realize high speed and extra-high speed operation.
