In this project, we investigated how ion thrusters produce propulsion and how the design of ion thrusters affects the performance of the thruster. In the experiment, we build a high voltage power supply (0- 50 kV) and foil rings to produce ion wind. When considering the design of the thruster, we focus on three variables: the volume of the space, where ions are produced and the electric field intensity. Thus, to investigate the first variable we made foil rings with different radius and change the distance between the ring and positive cathode. To determine the propulsion produced we use a speed sensor to determine the magnitude of the wind produced.

The power frequency electric field and Electric radiation generated by high voltage transmission line have a great impact on the surrounding environment, which is one of the important research topic on environmental protection and electromagnetic compatibility technology field. In this paper, the information database of typical transmission line and tower established, and the prediction of power frequency electric field intensity of high voltage transmission line has been given by using the 3-D computational method. Then, the major factors affecting the calculation results of electric field is discussed based on the measured data and the error analysis is given.

In ultra-high voltage transmission system, the electrostatic induction generated by power frequency electric field will exerts negative effects on the electrical automation equipment within the substation and, in particular, will leads long-term harm to staffs’ health. However, researches of electric field environment in ultra-high voltage transmission system merely concentrate on calculating the electric field intensity caused by three-phase limited length wire or three-phase infinite wire within the transmission, without considering the method of calculating half-infinite wire which represents “one end is fixed, while the other end is infinite length’s wire”. Consequently, a new method named “Charge Simulation-Genetic Algorithm (CS-GA) method” which can efficiently calculate power frequency electric field inside of the substation is proposed in the paper. In CS-GA method, the effective calculating length is determined by genetic algorithm method’s optimization, which in other words, half-infinite length wire is substituted for limited length wire in calculating the electric field intensity. The simulation results indicate that CS-GA method is a relatively accurate, efficient and reasonable way on calculating the power frequency electric field inside of the substation.

Water treated by external electric field with different field intensity. The absorbency of water, the changes of dyes solubility, the effect of treatment time and the changes of wool swelling were studied. The results showed that electric field treatments can alter the water physical properties to various degrees. The absorbance of water increased with increasing electric field intensity. The swelling ratio indicated the ability of solvent to penetrate the wool fibers and to swell them.
