Abstract We show that any triharmonic Riemannian submersion from a 3-dimensional space form into a surface is harmonic. This is an affirmative partial answer to the submersion version of the generalized Chen conjecture. Moreover, a non-existence theorem for f -biharmonic Riemannian submersions is also presented.

We define a new property which contains the property (EA) for a hybrid pair of single- and multivalued maps and give some new common fixed point theorems under hybrid contractive conditions. Our results extend previous ones. As an application, we give a partial answer to the problem raised by Singh and Mishra.

AbstractWe investigate the modal logic of interpretability over Peano arithmetic. Our main result is a compactness theorem that extends the arithmetical completeness theorem for the interpretability logic ILMω. This extension concerns recursively enumerable sets of formulas of interpretability logic (rather than single formulas). As corollaries we obtain a uniform arithmetical completeness theorem for the interpretability logic ILM and a partial answer to a question of Orey from 1961. After some simplifications, we also obtain Shavrukov's embedding theorem for Magari algebras (a.k.a. diagonalizable algebras).

This paper deals with the curvature bound for a nonlocal curve flow with a prescribed rate of change in enclosed area via Andrews–Bryan’s distance comparison. As a by-product, a partial answer to a conjecture given by Dallaston and McCue is obtained and the [Formula: see text] convergence of the curvature for the nonlocal flow is achieved.

Two open problems in the fixed point theory of quasi metric spaces posed in [Berinde, V. and Choban, M. M., Generalized distances and their associate metrics. Impact on fixed point theory, Creat. Math. Inform., 22 (2013), No. 1, 23–32] are considered. We give a complete answer to the first problem, a partial answer to the second one, and also illustrate the complexity and relevance of these problems by means of four very interesting and comprehensive examples.

AbstractWe show a model construction for a system of higher-order illative combinatory logic thus establishing its strong consistency. We also use a variant of this construction to provide a complete embedding of first-order intuitionistic predicate logic with second-order propositional quantifiers into the system of Barendregt, Bunder and Dekkers, which gives a partial answer to a question posed by these authors.

We give a characterization of isomorphisms between Schreier graphs in terms of the groups, subgroups and generating systems. This characterization may be thought as a graph analog of Mostow’s rigidity theorem for hyperbolic manifolds. This allows us to give a transitivity criterion for Schreier graphs. Finally, we show that Tarski monsters satisfy a strong simplicity criterion. This gives a partial answer to a question of Benjamini and Duminil-Copin.

Let A be a complex Banach algebra with unit 1 satisfying ∥1∥ = 1. An element u in A is said to be unitary if it is invertible and ∥u∥ = ∥u−1∥ = 1. An element h in A is said to be hermitian if ∥exp(ith)∥ = 1 for all real t; that is, exp(ith) is unitary for all real t. Suppose that J is a closed two-sided ideal and π: A → A/J is the quotient mapping. It is easy to see that if x in A is hermitian (resp. unitary), then so is π(x) in A/J. We consider the following general question which is the converse of the above statement: given a hermitian (resp. unitary) element y in A/J, can we find a hermitian (resp. unitary) element x in A such that π(x)=y? (The author has learned that this question, in a more restrictive form, was raised by F. F. Bonsall and that some special cases were investigated; see [1], [2].) In the present note, we give a partial answer to this question under the assumption that A is finite dimensional.

In 1966, Tijerina and members of the Alianza Federal de Mercedes took over the Echo Amphitheater picnic ground within Kit Carson National Forest, apprehended two U.S. Forest Service rangers and, in a mock trial, accused them of trespassing. Land-grant activists claimed the acreage because it had originally been granted to their ancestors by Spain, prompting the question that confronted Reies López Tijerina constantly: “Didn’t Spaniards steal the land in the first place from Native Americans?” In partial answer to this question, he sought alliances with Native Americans and promoted a new identity, the Indo-Hispano, the compound name recognizing centuries of cultural interchange and racial-mixing even as Tijerina minimized an equally long history of conflict.
