‘No Woman, No Cry’ is one of Bob Marley’s popular songs besides ‘I Shot the Sherriff,’ ‘One Love,’ ‘Is This Love,’ and ‘Three Little Birds.’ This song is worth studied since it often creates a sense of dualism and ambiguous in the meaning among fans especially the non-Jamaican audience. Despite the fact that the language of the lyric is clear but in order to have an in-depth understanding one needs to have a fit and proper approach. This is because of the locality of the context through language and cultural convention. Therefore in this research the writer offers an approach through the lense of sociology of literature which emphasize the knowledge of biography and socio-history. This approach is being conducted first by analysis of the text through heurestic and hermeneutic method. Heurestic is the first reading process that aims at giving meaning to the text based on the convention of language structures. While hermeneutic is the process of interpreting and forseeing the implied meaning of the text using all sources of knowledge. This second step can be fulfilled if the interpreter have an adequate biographical and socio-historical knowledge about the writer/author. This is in line to Hypolite Taine theory of race, moment and millieu. That a literary text is a depiction of reality from a certain community in a certain moment and millieu or circumtance.

The life and work of the modern Belgian writer Amélie Nothomb are directly connected with Japan and Japanese culture, so her works can be considered as important sources of knowledge about the country, which remained closed to foreigners for several centuries and does not often come into the focus of attention of modern French-speaking authors. In particular, the autobiographical novel “Tokyo Fiancée” (“Ni d’Ève ni d’Adam”, 2007) is an example of a detailed description of cross-cultural Japanese-Belgian contacts, as well as the behavior of representatives of Japanese linguoculture in everyday life, which the author had the opportunity to observe during her life in Japan. The purpose of the article is to analyze the main linguistic means of representing cultural otherness and, as a consequence of that otherness, ethno-cultural dissonance in the above-mentioned novel. The paper also clarifies the key concepts of ethno-cultural dissonance and otherness. The main research methods are linguistic-stylistic and linguistic-cultural analysis of an authentic literary text. Based on the results of the research, conclusions will be formulated about the specifics in the linguistic representation of ethno-cultural dissonance and cultural otherness in the novel under analysis.

The study shows how important is semiotics in aesthetically and cognitively shaping the novel. The study adopts a qualitative research method by applying semiotic analysis to create a new understanding of the literary text and its interpretations. Built on semiotic analysis, the writer embodies the prevailing norms, traditions and culture of the Palestinian society. The writer also reveals semantic signs that are not visible. He in fact captured the implied meaning behind the semiotic text. The research shows that Tayeh uses many semiotic signs to refer to the various concepts of issues related to the Palestinian culture, society and beliefs.

This paper examines the use of address terms in John Updike's Rabbit books ((Updike 1995). As will be argued, the data provide a unique, long-term perspective on how an individual is addressed in American society. The first part of the analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the great variety of address terms used towards the protagonist, Harry Angstrom, in the decades covered by the books. In a second step, the paper focuses on two important side characters to examine how their address behavior changes through the course of the series. The main aim of the paper is to demonstrate the great potential of fictional data for the study of address terms and, vice versa, how the study of address terms can contribute to a more profound understanding of a literary text.

Ensino. AbstractThis article addresses the student-reading relationship, about reading practice (mainly the literary one) by the subject, in Portuguese classes. The choice of the topic for this activity was based on “racism”, in order to stimulate socio-historical knowledge through two works by Monteiro Lobato: the short story “Negrinha” and an excerpt from the work “Peter Pan”, one of the adventures presented in Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, which were discussed with a final year class in a public school in Cuiabá-MT. In this instable world, with borders of all forms for the most fragile ones, it is important to bring such considerations/reflections, remember paths, review thoughts of some theorists, and emphasize, once again, the need for mediation in reading, mainly in classrooms. The problem to be faced is how to lead students to read a literary text, primarily in relation to Lobatian constructions? Thus, the objective of this study is to present a reading proposal, under the guidance of Literary Literacy, which gives students support to read a text, specifically in the genre short story, in qualitative research, with a methodology based on workshops, for the expansion of collective meanings, a critical and dialectical space. Based on Cosson (2006) and other theorists who discuss teaching, reading and literature, the focus of this study, with this proposal, a contribution is expected to the readers continuous development in classrooms, in order to bring them closer to the text, mostly the literary one. Keywords: Reading. Literary Text. Teaching.

Abstract: This paper will discuss two main issues of how the phenomenon of social inequality depicted in the Indonesian literary texts to date and the relationship between the portrait of social inequality with current realities. To answer there two questions, the sociology of literature and semiotics are used. Results show that among the three literary texts studied, namely the “Burung-Burung Kondor Rhyme”, dramatic text of Konglomerat Burisrawa, and novel Larung as a representation of Indonesian literary texts there are advanced thematic thread about the phenomenon of social inequality. The phenomenon of social inequality in the “Rhyme of Burung-Burung Kondor” is communicated directly by contrasting it with the fate differences experienced by these two social classes. The phenomenon of social inequality in the Konglomerat Burisawa is delivered in the form of indirect satirical comedy. The phenomenon of social inequality in Larung is made to strengthen the illustrations of feature stories that focus on romantic stories and the characters in the epic fight for the principles of life. The meaning of the depiction of social inequality in all three phenomena of literary text above is a literal reflection of existing social facts. The structural damage of molecules irradiated by electrons is generally considered to occur in two steps. The direct result of inelastic scattering events is the disruption of covalent bonds. Following changes in bond structure, movement of the constituent atoms produces permanent distortions of the molecules. Since at least the second step should show a strong temperature dependence, it was to be expected that cooling a specimen should extend its lifetime in the electron beam. This result has been found in a large number of experiments, but the degree to which cooling the specimen enhances its resistance to radiation damage has been found to vary widely with specimen types.

Protein A-gold immunocytochemistry is a two-step, post-embedding labeling procedure which may be applied to tissue sections to localize intra- and extracellular proteins. The key requisite for immunocytochemistry is the availability of the appropriate antibody to react in an immune response with the antigenic sites on the protein of interest. During the second step, protein A-gold complex is reacted with the antibody. This is a non- specific reaction in that protein A will combine with most IgG antibodies. The ‘label’ visualized in the electron microscope is colloidal gold. Since labeling is restricted to the surface of the tissue section and since colloidal gold is particulate, labeling density, i.e., the number of gold particles per unit area of tissue section, may be quantitated with ease and accuracy.
