Refrigerator is one of household appliances used daily to keep foodstuffs fresh. To find out whether the contents of the refrigerator are running low or run out, a user must check it directly by opening the door and viewing the contents. It will be troublesome to know the contents of the refrigerator when the user is outdoors because he or she must first call someone at home. One of solutions offered is by modifying the refrigerator so that the user can check the contents of the refrigerator by sending a short message (SMS) via mobile phone and the refrigerator can also send notification via SMS to the user if the contents of the refrigerator are running out. Equipment added to the refrigerator is a microcontroller in Arduino Uno R3 equipped with load sensors, and infrared sensors as food detectors and with GSM module for sending and receiving short messages. The study is conducted to design a modified refrigerator and to test the modification result. The result is a smart refrigerator system that can send SMS if the food supply in the refrigerator is running out.

Running Text yang digunakan type P10 ukuran 16cm x 32cm.Output tampilan berupa huruf atau angka yang terus berjalan sesuai pesan yang dikirim melalui SMS.Kata kunci: Running Text, Arduino Uno, SIM800L, Modul P10 16 x 32[En]Nowadays, running text is the most widely used information media in the form of news and advertisements that are packed with a unique and interesting appearance. Writing text currently mostly relies on computer units or remote controls that have limitations in terms of distance and inefficiency. In this design, Arduino Uno is used as a liaison device that already in at the program. so the user or operator can use running text as a medium of information by using communication via SMS (short message service) from mobile phone. The message received by GSM module (global system for mobile communications) Sim800L on the running text, then is forwarded to Arduino Uno microcontroller to be displayed on the display running text. Display that can be letters, numbers and punctuation marks. Through the design of the running text is expected to be wider range of distance between running text and its users, the process of text changes becomes easier for anytime. Running Text used type P10 size 16cm x 32cm. Output display in the form of letters or numbers are running according to messages via SMS.

AbstractThis study aims to describe how the participants (senders and receivers) flout conversational maxims in short messages. In this study, the source is taken from short messages that are sent via a provider because nowadays most people do communication with others using mobile phone. This study uses Grice’s theory of cooperative principle is used especially the flouting of maxims (maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relevance, and maxim of manner). All kinds of those flouting that exist in short messages are analyzed, which are delivered by the participants (senders and receivers). This research uses qualitative descriptive. The utterances produced by the participants, the senders and the receivers, when they were conversing with each others in term of short messages or texting (SMS) were analyzed and described. The data of the research were written data, collected from the utterances, which contain flouting performed by the senders and the receivers in the short messages or texting (SMS). The result of the research shows that in maxim of quantity, they flout by adding more information and giving a little information. In maxim of quality, all of the participants flout it by saying what they believed false. In maxim of relevance, the participants flouted it by saying irrelevant responses. In maxim of manner, moreover, the participants flouted it by saying convoluted words which are extremely long-winded. The conversational maxim are mostly flouted by the participants (sender and receiver) in the short massages is maxim of quantity. It is flouted by adding more information. Keywords: Conversation of Maxim, Flouting of Maxim, Short Message Service (SMS)

Short messages are an important part of social media network. Besides traditional communications, short messages can also be used for education, entertainment and even business. Nowadays, much work has been devoted to mining useful information and knowledge from short messages via classification and clustering approaches. However, in many situations, it is vital to identify some influential users whose messages will result in a large amount of forwarding, these users are called seed users. In this paper, studies on the forwarding behavior of mobile phone users are carried out first, then, a directed graph-based short message forwarding model is setup, together with a "Reverse PageRank" scoring policy. Finally, the forwarding model and scoring policy have been applied to a real short message record dataset from some telecom operator. By some exploratory data analysis of the dataset, parameters of the forwarding model are determined. Experimental results show that the model and the scoring policy are effective in finding out seed users.

The unprecedented global adoption of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is rapidly changing the way people are communicating in solving problems. For several years now, the role of ICTs has become important in the way people construct their relationships in conflict resolution. Yet little is known on the dynamism of this interaction. It is not clear how mobile technology has contributed toward conflict resolution, and this study will contribute to the knowledge on the role of mobile telephones in conflict resolution. The purpose of this study was to explore how the mobile phone technology contributed in resolving communal conflicts in Mandera County, Kenya. This study was guided by three theories: conflict transformation theory, diffusion of innovations theory and social representation theory. The conflict Tansformation Theory is adopted as the main theory of analysis.  The main idea of this theory is transforming negative conflict into constructive conflict, deals with structural, behavioural and attitudinal aspects of conflict. This study adopted a descriptive survey. The population for this study consisted of 301 employees in ICT and security department where stakeholders in technology and security sectors and the public. Primary and secondary  data was analysed according to the objectives. Primary data was derived from questionnaires formulated to target employees in ICT and security department. The data analysis included qualitative and quantitative techniques.  Qualitative data was summarized and categorized according to common themes and was presented using frequency distribution tables, graphs and charts. Content analysis was used mostly to arrive at inferences through a systematic and objective identification of the specific messages. The quantitative data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results confirmed that short message service, social media plateform, instant messaging applications, and video conferencing play a role in resolving communal conflicts in Mandera County. The study concludes that Short Message Service, Social Media Platforms and Instant Messaging Applications can be used conflict such as communal conflicts. Video Conferencing can be used to solve conflict such as relationship conflict, arises from differences in personality, style, matters of taste, and even conflict style as well as conflict in the workplace like task conflict. County government of Mandera must come up with ways of incorporating mobile phone technologies such as Short Message Service, Social Media Platforms, Instant Messaging and Video Conferencing on matters conflict resolution. The study recommends that the County Government of Mandera in collaboration with the National Government need to come up with agencies to regulate the use of social media as a medium to communicate in times of conflict since they are sometimes prone to misuse.

Studies have shown COVID-19 patients may have a low oxygen saturation (SpO2) independent of visible respiratory distress, a phenomenon termed “silent hypoxia.” Silent hypoxia creates uncertainty in the outpatient setting for clinicians and patients alike. In this study, we examined the potential for pulse oximeters in identifying early signs of clinical deterioration. We report descriptive results on COVID-positive patients’ experiences with a comprehensive home monitoring tool comprised of home SpO2 measurements with a novel symptom-tracking short message service/text messaging application. Of patients who required hospitalization, 83% sought care as a result of low pulse oximeter readings. Nearly all patients who did not require hospitalization reported that having a pulse oximeter provided them with the confidence to stay at home. Essentially all patients found a home pulse oximeter useful. Keeping COVID-19-positive patients at home reduces the potential for disease spread and prevents unnecessary costs and strain on the healthcare system.
